- the Walton: I'm thinkin'; soundtrack, patriotic, brass...but it's the virtues not the vices of those
- nice pieces ! (...of course)...

I fantasize about brass like this..

Good Labor Day evening, Bethany and A440ers!

Hindemith: Funny thing, one of those I don't look for, but always enjoy his pieces a lot when I come across them.

@P-90: The ideal kind of A440 composer that Bethany brings out. Some I haven't heard of, some I have heard of but don't really seek out, some I had wanted to seek out but are obscure...ALL worth a listen!

Florida Keys hurricane in September--sounds like this will be pretty strong!

Listener Schned:

Que viva Bethany! Fully agreed on the volume issue- First time in a long time to catch your programming in real time, as I usually count on archive-listening to the max, in order to counter the squalls and mutterings on MetroNorth each Friday-

Hello Bethany and all!

Wonderful Hindemith. 1938 was also the year he left Germany.

Wow, "strongest and most intense hurricane to make landfall in the United States and the Atlantic Basin in recorded history".

The workers who built U.S. 1 over those bridges to Key West were swept away, over 400 of them killed. Most were unemployed WWI "Bonus Army" marchers who'd been sent there as a job:

Very avant-garde sound, the destruction and loss of life certainly justifies the eerieness of this chorus.

Bethany Ryker:

Thanks for that info, Matt! The first mvt. is from October 10, 1780 "The Great Hurricane" got any meteorological info there? Curious but didn't have time to track it down myself...

Kurt Gottschalk:

wow, this brant is great! never heard this one before.

...indeed ! interesting - & effective Impressionism (in sense of conveying an impression)...

Matt from Springfield:

Stetson Univ in Florida commemorated this--did Brant and/or Stetson musicians compose the other hurricane pieces on the Autumn Hurricanes album?

lovely, Bethany! glad to be listening LIVE!
and you are SO RIGHT! wonderful when you can play as loudly as you wish, WITHOUT worrying about the *evil neighbors* :)

Matt from Springfield:

From 9-20 October 1780, from Barbados all the way up to Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo, and several ships at sea:

"probably the deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. Between 20,000 and 22,000 people died when the storm passed through the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean 10–16 October. Specifics on the hurricane's track and strength are unknown since the official Atlantic hurricane database only goes back to 1851...The hurricane struck Barbados with winds possibly exceeding 320 km/h (200 mph)"

Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Impressionism--both for making an impression (on its audience) and describing an impression (by the works' content itself)...

Matt from Springfield:

Ah, many different mvts. in the "Autumn Hurricanes" opus, each describing one powerful hurricane--thanks Bethany!

WOW - 2 different conductors, facing each other but conducting 2 groups playing in different time! Imagine the logistics of planning that!
