Favoriting October 8, 2014: MAYHEM IN THE PM: THE MAYHEMMING! 3 hours of power-pop, post-punk, new wave and punk from 1977-1982! (week 2 of WFMU's Silent Fundraiser and Mascot Contest)

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

It's week two of WFMU's Silent Fundraiser and Mascot Contest, and I've put together a special show to remind you of how awesome WFMU is (not to mention my show in particular! right?!), and hopefully to motivate you to pledge.

Tonight it's the eagerly awaited return of Mayhem In The PM! Yes, it's another three hours of nothing but power-pop, post-punk, new wave and punk records (yes, RECORDS) from 1977ish through 1982, presented in a Top 40 style just like I used to do on WNYU's New Afternoon Show* a long long time ago. You'll hear some of your old favorites and some others that'll become new faves instantly!

Now, because this is a SILENT fundraiser I won't be talking about it much at all during my show which means I'm depending on the written word to convince you to PLEASE PLEDGE! We're asking for your help so we can outfit our recently opened performance space, Monty Hall, with some key audio gear and an instrument backline so that having a show in Monty Hall doesn't disrupt the station's live recording studio.

If you've already pledged, THANK YOU! Your support is greatly appreciated. If not,
P L E A S E   P L E D G E   N O W !

Stay tuned for more exciting special shows all month, and please take a moment to Like The Evan "Funk" Davies Show on Facebook and follow me on Twitter! Thank you.!

*I really recommend reading this article to get a better understanding of the inspiration for tonight's show.

Re Slip Away - Don Bryant & Tyrone Davis do excellent covers of CC's original.. Have also ascertained that I have different songs entitled "Slip Away" by Rayne, the Sidewinders, the Sedatives, and Hillow Hammet. Have also ascertained I have lots of music on this computer that...is not very good.

You mean Metro Records, Stevel? What an awesome place. Glad I made it out there, but always regretted not making it to 99 records when they had their store.

Dot Dash and the original version of Academy Fight Song really only sound right on a 10 watt university signal on a platter with a shot belt.

The top-40 approach of this show was genius. Reminds me of Michael Shelley and his #1 hits.

Jim Allen: Awesome.

I was lucky enough to have an amazing radio experience early on via KFML Denver. Initially as free-form as WFMU, except you'd hear violently different stuff in the same hour (Alice Cooper/London Philharmonic) It spoiled me. Good stations have been few and far between.

Modettes? Bodysnatchers/Belle Stars? Altered Images?
  11:28pm

Peteski, here's a fun fact. I believe that in the Robyn Hitchcock song you referenced, "Listening to the Higsons," the line "gotta let this hen out," which also became the title of a live Robyn album, came from his initial mishearing of the Higsons song "Gotta Let This Heat Out."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
