Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from December 2, 2014 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Damn. Sad news about Keys. I was thinking about him a few nights ago after watching a show about the Muscle Shoals musicians who played on so many great records. Mick and Keith gave interviews. They both seemed in awe of the Swampers, who worked on Sticky Fingers. Keys showed up for the next record, Exile. Was he also on SF?

Velvets in San Francisco ! - not as antithetical as we think? Love this...
Avatar 5:02pm
Brian Turner:

Yeah, the mix in these two discs (5 & 6) are among the best VU live recordings I've heard....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's ironic - as they arguably *invented* the 'Psychedelic Show' - but I think one can hear they 'stretched out' in a particular way in the SF halls like everybody else did...or I thot so listening to the Quine tapes. Maybe not: the Velvets played all around...

There were light shows in SF even in the late 50ies. So there were other precedessors then VU. Warhol Film work and Multimedia and SF psychedelic arts have differing intentions.

"Vitamin A" is an edit of an 3 hour reel-to-reel-tape with a live jam (Atari, Mixing desc, turntables). Eyewitnesses report my flat was covered with tape reels during the weeks I did it.

Glad you like it Brian!

The Guggenheim NYC Museum show up now shows /describes stuff in Germany pre or contiguous w VU, light shows and similar sound experiments& other art forms
"ZERO: Countdown to Tomorrow, 1950s–60s" 1957- 1966 that is.
A couple of Fridays ago there was a talk in the theater, a view of the exhibition uo the ramps...then in atrium, free drinks,Joshua Light show with Oneida playing about 90 min to emulate some of the German experiments.
Not alive in 60s...
I adore the VU and that WLWH live track was fantastic. Great show.
