This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Caribbean Moonlight is so underrated as far as Baxter's discography. Side One is DEEP.

Hey, y'all!
"Touch of Evil" is such a great score. I recorded the audio off the tv as a youngster.
We def need more "Latin noir." Two great tastes that taste great together.

Well put Mr Fab: we are in agreement

MrFab:

"Caribbean Moonlight", really?! I just played it once or twice and thought it was too much the Sleepytime Strings Play Elevator Muzak, not enough fiery exoticness. Too subtle for my immature ears? Maybe I'd like it more now...

yeah, but charlton heston as a mexican cop? it beggars the imagination. on the other hand, moses.
Avatar 7:15pm
Flash Strap:

Tastes may vary, but I think Caribbean Moonlight is just endlessly lush and VERY cleverly arranged. It's sort of the quintessential exotica version of Taboo, as far as I'm concerned
Avatar 7:15pm
Flash Strap:

It's definitely not as wild n woolly as Ritual or Tamboo! though
Avatar 7:17pm
Flash Strap:

The secret of Heston's Mexican cop is that, while his politics are excellent, he's the constant joke of the film. What a flick it is, too!

When they went out to California in the 2nd season, IIRC, and found that alternate dimension of layabouts, is when they used that exotica "Misirlou." They also used "Telstar" to close the ep preceding it as they winged out from NYC.

As for the Crossfires, I think you're right! Seems that the Turtles used to be a surf group called the Crossfires, and they included a reference to that on Battle of the Bands. But I would not have known that if not for you, so I thank you! Gotta give that album a listen.
