Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
@doca: Thanks for the safe way out, but I'll gladly forge ahead with my suspect Portuguese, much to dale's delight.

Insombob:
what E flick that one from again? most of my face movie tracks (and, just favorite period of the King) are in the Easy Come, Easy Go, Spinout era (and Change of Habit).
...☽Moon in crabby ♋Cancer; not full, but gettin' there - crap day @ werk over - door locked against dangerous excitable jock persons...FMU Sunday Night ushered in by the inestimable Senor Galhardo de Campos...con vino tinto (w/ OJ to make gringo low-rent so-called sangria)
...ahh - I just may survive this...
I pronounce Portuguese like a definitive non-native who at least knows in head head what the vowels are supposed to sound like, and just has to practice a lot more to make his tongue agree.
@Gaylord: Haha that changes a lot of things in pronunciation! Why didn't she taught you in paulista accent? I think it's easier to learn though a lot less malandro than the carioca.
@Pete: "groove" translates as "suingue" (yes, swing) usually, but something groovy can be many things. In carioca it is "irado" (ira is fury, but here it's positive).
@Gaylord: Rio is the best place on Earth to live vicariously
i'll check that out sisyphus - thnx! so, the elephant in the room - do i stay with fmu where the balls are always firm and hard? or watch my one football game a year?
...how sweet - how bittersweet - to realize & learn that Brian Wilson & his American Boys were behind what even The Beatles & Wh♂ were about...some people will never see behind Mike Love's beard & the striped shirts: their problem...
@dale: Yes, Daryl Dragon is a capable producer; Toni Tennille can really sing. And when they do a good song (such as the Toni-written one I just played), it all adds up to something wonderful.
glad i bagged the big game (still not sure if it's legal to say 'super bowl'). gorgeous second half right here! gaylord - next week - DAN HILL! maybe not.
