Hello Dave. The Grammys. People. Things.
Avatar 9:05pm
Dave Mandl:

Hey, Jake. Yeah, every week it's some damn awards show.
Avatar 9:05pm
Dave Mandl:

Or the Super Bowl.
Avatar 9:08pm
dk:

i wonder how they had awards shows or sporting events before twitter. doesn't really seem possible. i suspect they didn't exist.
Avatar 9:09pm
Dave Mandl:

Yeah, the show itself seems secondary now. It's all about Twitter.

Hullo! ...& what West African deity are you & your young friends in the basement invoking now? ...oh you kids...

Folks, anyone help me find a new place for all my awards. It’s getting ridiculous here.

I thought the Superbowl was the time of year when people reflected on how disappointed they are with their current TV
  9:22pm
Carmichael:

I am always disappointed with my TV. Without the eternally caustic Anthony Bourdain, I would be living in a van down by the river.
  9:22pm
JakeGould:

All of these “World’s Greatest Uncle” awards are just taking up too much space.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Have you seen the World's Silliest Dad trophy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
Ike:

Disappointed in TV? What? It's the New Golden Age of TV. There's record-breaking heaps of great diamonds scattered through the 1000 channels of dreck and dumb awards shows. (But WFMU is even better.)

Digital tv brought new meaning to the click-track. Beep beep.

Tnanks Mugsy, at the end of the day no other award can be as loved ironically—as well as non ironically—as the “World’s Greatest [Relation]!” item.

Hello! Been dancing to the show all evening, but taking a break now. Is it Legend or Leg End?
Avatar 10:48pm
Dave Mandl:

Officially "Legend," but I'm pretty sure it was a pun.
  11:04pm
rw:

I just looked on the jacket of my copy of the LP (Red Records 001) and the only mention of the title is in pretty small print, "The Henry Cow Legend" but on the disc itself it's printed as Leg End. Seems to be ambiguous. I see it on the internet both ways but as Legend on the Recommended Records site. Certainly a pun though with the sock on the jacket. Okay. I just spent too much time on that. Will get back to work now...

I mean back to dancing.

"A Happy Family" is the name of an uproariously funny Japanese movie from the '80's. I saw it in a theater in SF and people were falling out of their seats - Che k it out...
Avatar 11:11pm
Dave Mandl:

@headphones: Me? Actually it was a lozenge. You caught me.
  11:13pm
JakeGould:

Speaking of lozenge’s, anyone else in NYC checkout this NYC subway bacteria survey. Nasty! graphics.wsj.com...
  11:19pm
ScottC:

Funny how the mind works - it's not A Happy Family - it's " A Crazy Family" - crying funny.

Most bacteria has never had its DNA mapped anyways, (seriously there are x 10n species IDed, and most never will be due to the rate of mutation and inability to find most). Then, when you get in to monerans, that's nearly an infinite amount of microbes. That said, as disgusting as the subways seem to be, it's been at least 13 years since I've stepped in urine or seen feces on the subway.

btw, I hope you're feeling better Jake (you were sick earlier this week, right? sorry if I misremembered), Something is going around, as I'm starting to feel like I'm getting ill (so far, just minimally). Hope everyone feels well and healthy!

Cool, Arcane Device, new to me and sounds like machinery falling out of my brain and into my cochlear recesses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Ike:

Jake, are you still trying to razz me? Get off the apostrophes' lawn! And yes, we already knew there was horrifying bacteria on the subway. I use gloves when handling any poles, and I get sick less frequently now that I never touch my face while riding, and always wash hands after disembarking.
  11:32pm
JakeGould:

Ooo la la… Ike “disembarks”!
Avatar 11:36pm

Why pick on subways? Are movie theaters sterilized between shows? Bacteria cells outnumber human cells 10 to 1 for any given person, humans are basically armatures for bacteria.

Ha, yes, I'm so fancy and dignified, what with my often nodding off if I manage to snag a seat, and possibly even snoring a bit, maybe even drooling on a bad day, while my hair sticks up every which way. I'm sure my fellow D/N train riders really look up to me and think I'm super classy.

Spectacular show tonight. I've learned 3 important things: 1. the Grammys are on, so the TV needs to stay off, 2. I've apparently forgotten I was supposed to track down Happy Family music (as of several years ago), and 3. Annie Gosfield exists (never heard of her). Best from SF.
