This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Gary, you old salt! What a pleasure to cross paths with you in this wretched place of all places!
Avatar 7:01pm ndbob:

Heya Flash, Gary, everyone!
Avatar 7:02pm Flash Strap:

Last show was a messy affair. A botched expedition with no survivors. Let's set down this same trail and find better fates this time around.
Avatar 7:03pm Flash Strap:

Hey Bob!

Hey Unca Mike!
Avatar 7:05pm Flash Strap:

Missed you all last week. I was busy having a decade-turner of a birthday in sunny Orlando
Avatar 7:09pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Off to a promising musical start!
Avatar 7:10pm Flash Strap:

Thanks, Kenzo!
Avatar 7:12pm northguineahills:

Huh, Flash Strap, I'll be down in Orlando in 3 weeks. Brother is getting married (ironically in Mexico [rest of the fam lives in FL]). I had to borrow $ from my brother to attend his own wedding, It looks like I'll probably get a jobby job come May if all goes according to plan, then I can finally get my heart again,... (next to my avatar)
Avatar 7:16pm Flash Strap:

Sounds like a good time, NGH. Where you heading in Mexico?
Avatar 7:19pm northguineahills:

Cancun. Ironic since next week I have an interview for my wife's immigration process, and I met her in Monterrey, 8 years ago (I have never been to the resort towns in Mexico).

My brothers mentioned there was a lot of purple in Orlando last weekend (yes, they were at that game).
Avatar 7:21pm Flash Strap:

Best of luck to you in your jobby job man! I hope May does indeed bring good things.

I love Mexico but I've never been to Cancun. Lived in San Miguel de Allende for a couple years but that's all I've seen
  7:26pm Brooklyn kid:

Yes sir! To Life!
Avatar 7:28pm northguineahills:

Thanks Flash, I'd like to be financially solvent before my own decade changing solar revolution.
Avatar 7:30pm Flash Strap:

Hrm. Me too, NGH
Avatar 7:38pm Flash Strap:

Oh, an Here's To You, Brooklyn kid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Gary:

Loving this track!
Avatar 7:55pm Flash Strap:

Yeah, Gary, that whole record is a dream melting machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm listener james from westwood:

How do and good evening, Flash Strap and all! Apologies for the late arrival. Looking forward to hour 2!
Avatar 7:57pm Flash Strap:

Hello heartily, James
Avatar 7:57pm northguineahills:

Seems like the connection ain't bad, and that's a rarity any time on the GTDS stream.
Avatar 7:57pm Flash Strap:

Ah, good. good to hear
Avatar 7:57pm ndbob:

excellent first hour flash - catch the rest on the archive
Avatar 7:58pm northguineahills:

Off to the grocers, thanks a lot Flash. Great amazing stuff!
Avatar 7:58pm Flash Strap:

Toodles, Bob
Avatar 7:58pm Flash Strap:

Toodles 2, NGH
Avatar 8:09pm northguineahills:

I've always wanted to get this Joe Henderson album. It's eerie you can recognize Alice w/in the first second. Ok, really going now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm listener james from westwood:

Not enough musical compositions feature Alice Coltrane.
Avatar 8:14pm Flash Strap:

She's so astonishing
Avatar 8:16pm Flash Strap:

I have very mixed feelings about this record.
Avatar 8:19pm Flash Strap:

Fanshawe is such a musical doofus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Gary:

Bebey, baby!
Avatar 8:23pm Flash Strap:

African electronic music; there is never enough. Bebey is tremendous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm listener james from westwood:

Would have no idea who he is had I not been ushered into his many delights by WFMU and its mighty DJs. So thankful for this station opening my mind up. (And I'd say that even if it WEREN'T pledge period!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Uncle Michael:

Hello everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm listener james from westwood:

Hey hey UM! Hope supper came out nicely!
  8:31pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Uncle Michael:

I wound up eating the Thai leftovers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm listener james from westwood:

I'll take Thai leftovers over quite a number of other options.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm Uncle Michael:

Panang curry with beef.
Avatar 8:36pm Flash Strap:

Oo, nice. That's a nice left over my friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm listener james from westwood:

I'm supposed to get lunch at a Greek place tomorrow (apologies in advance for tardiness on HDT), but I may argue for a change of venue to the Thai jernt 1 town over.
Avatar 8:37pm Flash Strap:

Hey Doug! Never better than when I see you in the place!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Uncle Michael:

The restaurants here are pretty weak. We have one Thai place and it's not too bad. I usually get the roast duck with ginger...LOTS of ginger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Uncle Michael:

James, you need make no apologies. Your support is appreciated and unassailable.
Avatar 8:38pm Flash Strap:

Hoo, where I am there are four nearby Thai joints, all on the same street, all owned by the same guy, all totally mediocre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm listener james from westwood:

The hands-down best General Tso's I've ever had (Chef Chang's House, Boston—RIP) was not stingy with the ginger. Oooh baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm listener james from westwood:

Danke schoen, UM! I will destroy souvlaki in your honor tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Uncle Michael:

Evan, if you haven't seen the Wikipedia page for St. Louis cuisine...and the hilarious take-down of it at Gawker...you must.
Avatar 8:42pm Flash Strap:

Oh man, I really must. I miss really really GOOD food being easy to find
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm Uncle Michael:

As a Chicagoan, I kind of love how Gawker keeps skewering StL over and over and over.

Avatar 8:47pm Flash Strap:

I'm not up on Gawker's assault, but it's pretty fair to say I'm not a committed member of the STL team.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Uncle Michael:

My resentment towards Cardinal baseball requires an outlet.
  8:53pm Yellow Bird:

What was the instrument playing the melody on that JD Emmanuel track?
Avatar 8:53pm Flash Strap:

Well, I don't karass around sports competitions, but I have my own reasons for antipathy to St. Louie. The enemy of enemy, you understand
Avatar 8:56pm Flash Strap:

I wish I knew, little bird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Listening to the Sinner, but thought I'd check in here and say hello.
Avatar 8:56pm Flash Strap:

The answers may lie here: jdemmanuel.com
  8:58pm Yellow Bird:

it sure had a lovely sound
Avatar 8:58pm Flash Strap:

Hello to you, Ken! Thanks for lending a drop-by
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm listener james from westwood:

Always listen to the sinners. They're more interesting than the saints.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Gary:

Aw, man ... great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, Flash! Glad the stream was kinder to you this week!
