This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Avatar 7:22pm Flash Strap:

Avatar 7:25pm northguineahills:

Sounds like a Mazda commercial.
Avatar 7:25pm Flash Strap:

And how is everyone this fine evening?
Avatar 7:26pm Flash Strap:

Hey ngh! yeah it's hard not to conjure up that ad campaign when hearing the word zoom emphasized in any way
Avatar 7:26pm davex:

Not bad, thanks, and you? Working late into the night here in Germany...
Avatar 7:27pm ndbob:

Doing pretty well
Avatar 7:28pm Flash Strap:

working like, painting your masterpiece late until the night? Or all night spreadsheet reorganization?
Avatar 7:31pm davex:

Editing, so more the latter but not quite as bad, I guess!
Avatar 7:37pm Flash Strap:

Well, I'm glad we can groove together in this late night of soul
Avatar 7:39pm davex:

Ball of Confusion just about sums it up. Liking the version too.
Avatar 7:43pm Flash Strap:

Yeah, this version is just relentless
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Gary:

The show tonight is especially great
Avatar 7:48pm davex:

The Show Boat is too!
Avatar 7:48pm Flash Strap:

Thanks, Gary, truly
Avatar 7:50pm davex:

Seriously, these covers are excellent finds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Gary:

Okay, seriously, is there a book about the Temptations that covers all this stuff? B/c I need it.
Avatar 7:54pm Flash Strap:

I've been reading up on it all a bit, and it's so sort of petty and sort of typically (of Motown, music industry in general) exploitative that I would love to be able to learm more about the actual creative process
Avatar 7:56pm Flash Strap:

I mean, in the whole annals of what is loosely thought of as "black power" music, this is really some of the most mind-blowing, if not the most incisive. This track in particular actually does literally blow my motherfuckin mind
Avatar 7:58pm Flash Strap:

drum machine is just cold as hell
Avatar 7:59pm Flash Strap:

oh shit
Avatar 8:00pm ndbob:

excellent first hour Flash - catch the rest on the archive
Avatar 8:02pm Flash Strap:

See ya later bobbagator
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Gary:

In mine, I find a huge trove of Clark Coolidge books
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Doug Schulkind:

Hello Flash Strap from WFMU! I'm sitting here in Studio C with Hinky Dinky Time's Uncle Michael!
Avatar 8:16pm Flash Strap:

Hello Doug, greetings Unca Mike! All my best to Studio C
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm Gary:

I'll be right there!
Avatar 8:17pm Flash Strap:

I thought you might be plagued by similar visions, Gary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Gary:

Weirdly, it's only ever Clark Coolidge books. You would think it would be of Japanese CDs. Or rare comics. But, no.
Avatar 8:20pm Flash Strap:

Huh. When I was really young, it was always increasingly bizarre GI Joes
Avatar 8:29pm Flash Strap:

How are the boys in Studio C? Counting giant bales of money, I trust.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Doug Schulkind:

We are counting sheep. Zzzzzzz. JUST KIDDING!
Avatar 8:49pm Flash Strap:

Happy abacus-fingering, my counties
Avatar 8:50pm Flash Strap:

I should have clarified: this is one of my least favorite of the common Whitfield compositions, but I sort of adore this bonkers version of it
Avatar 8:56pm hambone:

wow, never knew the temptations had such a shift in their sound. great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm Uncle Michael:

Hello Evan and listeners. I'm in Studio C with Doug...he's hotter in person.
Avatar 8:57pm northguineahills:

Hmmm, my last comment was lost.

Faved this episode/

@Gary: Better then Calvin Coolidge books.
Avatar 8:57pm Flash Strap:

T'anks Hambone. It really is a fascinating pocket of music history
Avatar 8:58pm davex:

Fine show, and that is undisputed.
Avatar 8:58pm Flash Strap:

UM, is it nice to be out of the Middle West? Would that I could sprout wings and parlay with you all in the East
Avatar 8:59pm Flash Strap:

Thanks Dave and NGH! Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Uncle Michael:

It's a nice change of scenery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Bas NL:

Beautiful tracks Flash Strap! Great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Uncle Michael:

That's the undisputed truth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Gary:

@NGH: Clark Coolidge, not Calvin! Clark Coolidge is a super-great experimental poet who also played drums in The Serpent Power
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Gary:

Clickstar-worthy show, Flash!
Avatar 9:06pm Flash Strap:

T'anks Bas
Avatar 9:07pm Flash Strap:

Kind words, Gary
Avatar 9:16pm davex:

Not ending the show - I like it!
