Every week, without fail, the moment Stan's show starts up, you know you're in good hands. If only more things in life were this reliable...

That "spoof" could have been a straight aircheck of a marathon pitch from 3 am on WBAI or somewhere like that, back in the day. I loved the slightly druggy, exhausted tone, and the part about "ripping off" the "student level" pledge from "the old lady or the old man". Very authentic. Anyone else remember how other used to play the big cadenza from the William Tell Overture on an endless loop when they were "counting down" a matching pledge?

Vesta: Roman goddess of fire (and purity, etc.). The "Vestal virgins" were the hot young nuns who staffed her temple in Rome, just a few yards from the Senate.

Morning, Stan, hello mostly urban spacemen.

Caryn:

The rules for Vestal virgins were rather interesting, but their main task was caring for the sacred fire.
