Avatar 9:04pm Holly in NC:

Good evening!
Avatar 9:05pm Loretta:

hi Evan, hi Hollly!
  9:06pm JakeGould:

HellO!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Stevel:

"Chug a lug now baby" Not sure I trust those Hardy Boys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Stevel:

...although, I am curious about who was playing bass on the HB track. Lotsa notes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- wow - doesn't sound like Ian McCullough @ all!...
Avatar 9:08pm BadGuyZero:

Hiya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm MattBelow:

Ahoy Evan and all!
  9:10pm JakeGould:

@RevRabbit: It’s a Julian Cope collab from the early, early days, “Echo & the Bunnymen's debut single "The Pictures on My Wall" was released on Bill Drummond & David Balfe's Zoo Records in May 1979, the B-side being the McCulloch/Cope collaboration "Read It in Books" (also recorded by The Teardrop Explodes approximately six months later as the B-side of their final Zoo Records single "Treason"). McCulloch has subsequently denied that Cope had any involvement with the writing of this song on more than one occasion.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm efd:

BGZ!! Great to see you up and commenting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm efd:

and of course a very good evening to everyone else! Nice to see all of you!
Avatar 9:10pm Holly in NC:

'Crocodiles' was 1 of the 1st "cool" lps I ever acquired, based solely on a good review in Rolling Stone (!) My much older sister had to go to New Haven to procure for me, quite a big deal.
  9:11pm will:

I love that band Thundermug! Evan, how do you do that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah but I mean his voice ; maybe Ian McCulloch didn't sound like himself yet (even when spelled right)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm fleep:

Ah Ah Ah, y'all.
  9:15pm JakeGould:

@RevRabNov63: True. The voice is odd. But hey.
  9:17pm will:

Something winningly Spandau about Blue Rondo.
  9:18pm Jen:

The EFD Show is such a fave!
  9:19pm JakeGould:

Blue Rondo a la Jerk: An a-hole who likes Dave Brubeck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Figgsrock:

EFD, you were right on that Jimmy Lewis. Excellent track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Stevel:

Love the Needles and Pins cover, as I love most covers of that song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Steve Marriott??
Avatar 9:28pm Holly in NC:

Tommy James' autobiography "Me, the Mob & the Music" is quite a fun read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm efd:

agreed, Holly! I really enjoyed it. Great interview with Dave The Spazz too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Stevel:

Thanks for that reminder, Holly and efd. Just reserved Me, the Mob & the Music at my library.

Yay, WFMU book club! (I've yet to start the Stiff Records book, but it is near at hand.)
  9:34pm P-90:

"Evan'sTheme"! I actually remember that one. Yeah, Dave the Spazz's interview with Tommy James was primo, I was just recently thinking I should go back and revisit it in the archives. Highly recommended if anyone missed it the first time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm Stevel:

efd: We'd understand if you put on a long cut or two in order to sneak downstairs for a peek at JSBE.
Avatar 9:37pm Holly in NC:

Or just play "Afro"....
Avatar 9:43pm BadGuyZero:

Doesn't look like Steve Marriott was in Love & Tears.

EFD, I found something that might help with Jimmy Lewis: powerpopcriminals.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah prob. not SteveM - but sounding like him is high praise!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Uncle Michael:

And thank you for that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm efd:

good point, UM! It was nice to stretch out!
Avatar 10:09pm Holly in NC:

REALLY like this Young Guv album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Uncle Michael:

This track has a "Sentimental Lady" acoustic guitar thing going on at the beginning. It fooled me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm efd:

same, Holly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm efd:

and something else too, UM, that I can't put my finger on right now -- but when I figure it out you will hear the segue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Mike Sin:

Well, I am completely enjoying this Nic Hessler... when it first started I was reminded of the Shoes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Uncle Michael:

I swear, I thought we were about to hear the dulcet tones of Bob Welch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm efd:

that Nic Hessler was a great new bin discovery for me tonight.
Avatar 10:21pm DaveHill:

listening in my underpants. need everyone to be cool with that.
  10:22pm JakeGould:

@DaveHill: We’re all listening in YOUR underpants. That was one of the premiums.
Avatar 10:22pm DaveHill:

thanks, @jakegould!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm fleep:

How we all fit in his underpants, I'll never know.
Avatar 10:23pm Danne D:

Hi EFD :)
Hi Everyone :)

Hi Holly :)

whoa Dave Hill is here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm efd:

in his underpants!
Avatar 10:25pm Danne D:

@EFD aren't we all, though?
Avatar 10:27pm Holly in NC:

Hi Danne :-)
  10:29pm Ignore Function:

Is somebody from The Mummies in The Orange Peels?
Avatar 10:30pm DaveHill:

Evan is back announcing. Evan taught me how to back announce. Cool to hear the master at work.
  10:31pm Ignore Function:

Wikipedia says yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm coelacanth:

howdy Evan and Funkies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Uncle Michael:

Dave, think of back announcing as calling back in twenty minutes.
  10:33pm JakeGould:

Jimmy Carter says yes. youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm coelacanth:

where the hell isWOAH!...never mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm coelacanth:

back announcing is The Way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm fleep:

But ... last cut and backwards, or first cut and forwards?
Avatar 10:38pm Holly in NC:

LAST CUT BACKWARDS I HAVE STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT THIS
  10:39pm JakeGould:

FEELINGS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Stevel:

Last cut backwards is helpful when dealing with listeners distracted by the intake of various stimulants.

(Nothing more than feelings.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Ike:

YES, @Holly! I'm a backwards-back-announcing partisan. Always back-announce starting with the LAST track and GO BACK FROM THERE. That way if somebody tunes in part of the way through and is operating heavy machinery, having sex, or doing something else precluding checking the playlist, they can count back and figure out which track was which.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm coelacanth:

last cut; back. anything else is a severe ass pain for folks who want to note a song and are listening the old-fashioned way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm Stevel:

I hardly ever check the playlist during sex.
Avatar 10:41pm Danne D:

My exception regarding the last cut back rule is Steinski - he did it forward but it was so beautifully done it worked :)
  10:41pm JakeGould:

“…listening the old-fashioned way.” On a crystal radio?
Avatar 10:42pm BadGuyZero:

I had to go walk around per doctor's order. But I'm back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm coelacanth:

no,a cup to the door of the studio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm Uncle Michael:

Hey, BGZ! How ya feeling?
Avatar 10:43pm Danne D:

BGZ :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Ike:

(I just added the "having sex" part to get more attention.)
Avatar 10:44pm Holly in NC:

@BGZ, so glad you're here tonight! How are you feeling?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm concerned citizen:

wha happened?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- a wealth of PowerPop tonight ! Happiness.
Avatar 10:46pm BadGuyZero:

@Uncle Michael: Sore.

I do have staples in my stomach and it makes me look like a complete badass. But not as badass as Dave Hill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...?! ! ! : wellness to you BGZ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm Uncle Michael:

Glad to hear they have you stapled together, at least. Get less sore!
Avatar 10:48pm BadGuyZero:

For those who don't know...my gallbladder burst Monday morning. It felt like I was simultaneously being stabbed and set on fire.
Avatar 10:48pm Holly in NC:

I wouldn't make love with someone who'd mind if we counted back to figure out a cool song. But I mean really, ideally love = vinyl. Or waves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm coelacanth:

wait! excuse me; i know you're just about to climax, but i need to count back as the dj goes over his set.
Avatar 10:54pm Danne D:

Ira just so awesome and down to earth.

Holy Shit, BGZ! Man, feel better soon. And here I thought you had just eaten some staples.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm coelacanth:

BadGuyZ that sucks! They yank it out?
  10:55pm JakeGould:

@BadGuyZero: Geez! Hang in there, BGZ. Thoughts and good vibes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm coelacanth:

yeah either way, speedy recovery to you.
  10:56pm Ignore Function:

Glad you are recovering, BGZ. Also glad to meet you last week, even if for five seconds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm fleep:

700,000 gall bladders are removed surgically in the US every year, but usually it is laparoscopic. I am so glad to hear you are recovering, BGZ.
Avatar 11:01pm BadGuyZero:

They had to old-school slice me open to get mine out, hence the staples. The surgeon said it was turning gangrenous before it burst. He said he's never seen a gallbladder in as bad of shape as mine.
Avatar 11:02pm Danne D:

And sorry I missed you during the marathon BGZ :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm efd:

Congrats on the exceptional gall bladder!
Avatar 11:03pm Danne D:

So BGZ is now GBZ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm coelacanth:

Funny Danne!
  11:05pm marteen:

excellent as always, Mr. EFD. eagerly awaiting your dj premium.
Avatar 11:07pm BadGuyZero:

That Sarah Bethe Nelson track sounded like an outtake from Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk."
  11:14pm JakeGould:

Can BGZ’s exceptional gall bladder be adopted by a listener?

That was pretty bold for 1985, no? I wonder if it had distribution problems, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm efd:

They were on the same label as Sylvester, so I don't think they would have had a lot of trouble reaching an audience.
