  9:01pm JakeGould:

Ooo! Nice! Frampton feels like summer…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Stevel:

From whaaaa??

Great song.
  9:02pm john:

Gosh. Starting with the '80s. It must be April Fools' Day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm Stevel:

Oh. I'm slow. Very nicely played.

Not so familiar with this song.
Avatar 9:02pm Loretta:

good evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm chris_in_space:

What up everyone. And now it's time for tha fonk!
Avatar 9:04pm Danne D:

Whoa EFD Breaking The Rules with a song from 1981!??!
Avatar 9:04pm Holly in NC:

@john - 10 steps ahead of me- kudos!

Hi everyone!
Avatar 9:04pm Danne D:

It's almost like it's a certain day or something ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Stevel:

john FTW!

DanneD a close second
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm tomasz.:

joke's on you, it's April 2 here!
Avatar 9:05pm Danne D:

Hopefully this isn't the theme for Evan's plans for tomorrow's EFDHHDYDTY Fantasy Baseball Draft :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Stevel:

I fucking hate April Fools day. ALWAYS got taken.
Avatar 9:06pm Danne D:

Love the Avi, Tomasz :) The New Jersey Knuckles appreciate the support for the team.
  9:06pm john:

Actually, it is, Danne. Evan's drafting Peter Frampton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Stevel:

That was a great song. It appeals to my inner... thing.
Avatar 9:07pm Danne D:

If ever there was a night where I thought Evan would be playing Tales From Topographic Oceans...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm efd:

It's April Fool's Day, Danne, not Impossible Day.
  9:08pm JakeGould:

Happy B-Day Angus Young!
Avatar 9:08pm Holly in NC:

Hi Danne :-)

I think efd's only playing things he actually likes :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm tomasz.:

Evan "Metal" Davies! \m/
Avatar 9:13pm Toddophonic:

Crap, this is the Night Ranger song I was going to open my show with this week!
Avatar 9:14pm Hoboken Jack:

Proof positive that you can still rock in America.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm efd:

@Toddophonic, I had to get my revenge for you playing the better Sarah Bethe Nelson song on Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Stevel:

Obviously, the TOT/efd beef is ON!!
Avatar 9:19pm Danne D:

Btw, Hi EFD :) Hi Everyone :)
Hi Holly :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm fleep:

Greetings from dried up Southern California, EFD and rockers.
  9:20pm JakeGould:

You know what ISIS can’t do? ISIS CANNOT STOP THE ROCK!
  9:21pm JakeGould:

Evan, thanks for the “Twisted Sister.”
Avatar 9:22pm Hoboken Jack:

EFD, is that a Twisted Sister pin on your uniform?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Stevel:

Twisted Sister was better than most, punch wise.
Avatar 9:22pm Holly in NC:

TS always improved by accompanying video:

And btw I have this 7'' w picture sleeve, yes I do ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm chris_in_space:

This. Is. Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm fleep:

The Metal "District"? Can we vote?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Cubicle Carl:

btw, I'm playing my official WFMU air guitar, from a few marathons ago.
  9:27pm JakeGould:

What’s the air rights in the metal district like? Do they sell macarons on the metal district?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Stevel:

I like where this is going.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm courtneynoir:

oh man this is the best night ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Cubicle Carl:

Jake, is that macarons or macaroons?
  9:31pm JakeGould:

@CubicleCarl: Macarons are the trendy food meringue cookie in artisanal land nowadays. Macaroons are Kosher for Passover.
  9:32pm JakeGould:

Billy Squier’s bare feet and riffs make an appearance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm courtneynoir:

I think I need beer or something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Stevel:

Very small step from Billy Squire to Rush. Just saying.
Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Lonely Planet Boy:

macarons are almond-flavored pastel-colored French cookies with a filling. macaroons are coconut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Cubicle Carl:

The vinyl of Frampton's breaking all the rules sells for $2.75 on Amazon. Good time to invest.
  9:33pm john:

Lonely is the night. Four of us. Air guitar. College talent show. 1983. We should have won. No film exists. Thankfully.
Avatar 9:35pm Holly in NC:

Avatar 9:35pm Toddophonic:

I like the best Piper songs more, but this Squier cut is definitely not w/o merit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm efd:

Carl you know it's gonna go up tomorrow after the EFD bump kicks in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Cubicle Carl:

@ JakeGould: ah yes, I think I've seen them a coupla times. I doubt they sell those in the metal district.
  9:36pm JakeGould:

Billy Squier is going to wake up 6 months from now, see an extra $10 in a royalty check and say, “Hey…”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Cubicle Carl:

Yes, efd. That was no joke. I know how to call 'em. His appearances on Top of the Pops have gone viral.
Avatar 9:38pm Holly in NC:

Perhaps first time a video wrecked a man's career?
Poor Billy.

Avatar 9:38pm Richard from Venezuela:

Amazing set list!!!
  9:39pm john:

The man had his early 80s low-rent Led Zeppelin moment. At least he was way better than the real thing.
  9:40pm JakeGould:

Early 1980s metal is fine. It’s what happened after 1985 or so that’s… Meh…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm jmd:

If you can squeeze in some Fastway, Saxon, or old Quiet Riot (with RR) you could be a DJ on KKDJ (Fresno, CA) in 1984.
Avatar 9:41pm Danne D:

Hola Richard :)
Avatar 9:41pm Danne D:

I like to think Evan "Snake" Davies has the jacket to match.
Avatar 9:41pm Richard from Venezuela:

Saludos Danne D.
  9:43pm JakeGould:

Anyone want to bet on whether “Zebra” makes an appearance?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Cubicle Carl:

And my consumer dollars have definitely been steered by the EFD bump, in genuine capitalist terms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The note on my calendar indicates today is April "Funk" Day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm efd:

did somebody say Fastway?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm jmd:

Thank you
  9:47pm JakeGould:

This is where I would go out to get a slice.
  9:49pm JakeGould:

U68 Metal Block.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm efd:

3 primary influences for this show:

WAPP signing on in NYC, summer of 198...3(?)
U68 Power Hour
Z-Rock syndicated hard rock radio at 1480 AM.
Avatar 9:51pm Holly in NC:

Can one weigh Metallica's assholeness vs. the majesty of the Ride the Lightning lp? Also, "Am I Evil".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm fleep:

That's one long generic song.
  9:53pm JakeGould:

@EFD: “U68 Power Hour” Yes! Thanks for remembering that exact title. Without that I could not keep up with my high school chums who went to L'Amours back then.
Avatar 9:53pm Danne D:

Never realized how much Turbo Lover sounds like a Sparks song...
  9:54pm john:

I'm gonna go wtih '82 for WAPP. They sponsored the Who shows at Shea that summer (with the unlikely duo of Santana and The Clash opening).
Avatar 9:54pm Danne D:

Ah the commercial free summer that WAPP opened their format with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

There must be some Blue Öyster Cult in here somewhere.
  9:55pm john:

I take part of it back. Those shows were in October '82.
Avatar 9:56pm Danne D:

Tull in the 11 o'clock hour, EFD?

(For the record, you'd hear Yes on that '82 APP summer - just not Tales. More like All Good People) :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm efd:

Wikipedia has it as '82 though, john, so you get partial credit.
  9:58pm john:

I'll take it! I almost don't remember that I was once nineteen. I'm still not convinced of it.
Avatar 9:59pm Danne D:

That WAPP summer gave me an appreciation for commercial-free radio :)
  9:59pm CinNYC:

This once popular genre is now under appreciated - for good reason!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm Figgsrock:

I'd venture a guess that I'm one of the few (or the only person) on this board that saw Skid Row on this tour.
  10:00pm JakeGould:

You can’t stop the rock, CinNYC.
Avatar 10:00pm Danne D:

Hope we maybe hear a little Rainbow tonight :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm efd:

Figgs, I saw them open for AC/DC at the Meadowlands, I'm pretty sure. Or maybe they were opening for Aerosmith.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm efd:

coming up in a bit, Danne D!
Avatar 10:03pm Holly in NC:

Bon Jovi? Too pop?
Avatar 10:03pm Danne D:

Awesome :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm efd:

also coming, Holly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm efd:

Ken, I have Blue Oyster Cult outside my personal fence on this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Figgsrock:

Ha--yes, on the Aerosmith tour. I saw them in Syracuse just a week after "The Bottle Incident" in early 91.
  10:04pm JakeGould:

Some Ozzy? Maybe “Over the Mountain” the opening track from “Diary of a Madman?”
Avatar 10:04pm Danne D:

@Holly - nooooooo Runaway not too pop for sure. Definite fit.

That was when they were the Jersey boys making good.
Avatar 10:05pm Danne D:

Burnin' for You woulda fit EFD - gotta disagree. I mean the dude spontaneously combusted in a car! That's pretty metal of him to have done ;)
  10:05pm Tommy:

Where's my big hair wig when I need it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm courtneynoir:

Quiet Riot? Anyone?
  10:07pm JakeGould:

And for those who don’t know what U68 was, it was a UHF low-rent MTV station. 100% Jersey-based. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 10:08pm Danne D:

I recall Evan Snake Davies being something of a Ratt aficianado.
  10:08pm JakeGould:

And here is another excellent U68 promo reel. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm courtneynoir:

BAD NEWS www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Cubicle Carl:

U68 was the first place I saw (or heard) the rap version of Beastie Boys with the video for She's On It.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Isaac Warthog Hell:

Oh no, is this WFMU's new format, competing with WSOU? Bummer, dude! :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Isaac "Warthog" Hell:

Oops, I forgot to put quotation marks around "Warthog."
  10:11pm JakeGould:

@CubicleCarl: Yeah, for a while it was the only Beastie Boys video on U68 it seems. And here is Johnny Lydon for U68. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 10:12pm Danne D:

No :( 's in the Metal District, Isaac!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Figgsrock:

  10:13pm JakeGould:

And for me another 1980s metal memory for a non-metalhead like me: Zig Zag Records. www.sheepsheadbites.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Isaac "Warthog":

That's "Mr. 'Warthog'" to you, King of Kearny! I'm outta here! I'm switching over to the Indie District show on WFMU's Hot Indie Hits webstream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm fleep:

Tight segue.
  10:16pm JakeGould:

@fleep: That’s what she said.
Avatar 10:17pm Holly in NC:

@fleep - you are swimming in time to Rainbow, which is freaking me out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm efd:

No lie, I made that exact segue on a mix tape I made myself in 1986.

And on a CD-R mix I made in the early 2000's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm jmd:

Gonna start swingin' the Hatchet anytime tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Ike:

BTW, you missed a good gag there when you could've announced Billy Jam's show as "The Hip-Hop District" and Rob W.'s show as "The World District."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

How's about some Black Sabbath with Dio or Ian Gillan on vocals?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm efd:

Sorry, no Hatchet, jmd.

Ken will you settle for some solo Dio and Deep Purple with Gillan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm efd:

Ike, it's not for me to assign other peoples' shows to districts.
  10:23pm JakeGould:

Would be appropriate and acceptable to hear some 1980s “we should cash in on this Quiet Riot buzz” era “Slade.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Figgsrock:

Oh man, with the Gillan reference now I want to hear something from Perfect Strangers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Those choices work for me just fine. This show is so much fun tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Cubicle Carl:

Ah, Zig Zag. Despite it's bias towards classic rock and metal, I bought my original copy of the Paul Collins' Beat album at Zig Zag sometime in the late 70's.
  10:25pm JakeGould:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I saw Zebra at SUNY New Paltz, probably early 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Wretch:

New Orleans' own!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm jmd:

Nice for Zebra. Maybe some Saga? Please, no Asia.
  10:27pm JakeGould:

@CubicleCarl: ZigZag just always had a nice selection of “where did they get that?” stuff. Like I got an import copy of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” back in 1986 in one of those “loose but sealed” plastic bags for $4.99. WHAT A BARGAIN!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm efd:

we're on the same wavelength, jmd.
  10:28pm herb.nyc:

internet has crashed...
  10:28pm herb.nyc:

...due to wfmu overload!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm Figgsrock:

I have to say EFD, the fact that you put this much effort into a one night only show just proves I made the right decision with directing my entire donation this year to your show. Thank you for putting this amazing show together.
  10:29pm JakeGould:

Is Clay Pigeon listening? I want him to reference Zebra tomorrow.
  10:30pm Alex Skramble:

rad show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Uncle Michael:

Playlist needs more umlauts.

And more gratuitous x, y and z letter substitutions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Cubicle Carl:

@JakeGould: Loose but sealed...funny. It was like the collector's shrink wrap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Uncle Michael:

Social Media Diamond Dave Scream?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Figgsrock:

  10:33pm JakeGould:

@CubicleCarl: Yeah, it was not tight sealed and the sleeve cardboard was clearly lighter like some foreign paperback. Loved that LP. And it was the first piece of vinyl I owned that was physically “heavy” like good quality vinyl. Sounded great when I dubbed it to tape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Cubicle Carl:

I think efd just fessed up to swiping a disc from the WNYU record library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yes, Z-Rock with their head bang, bang, banging music! First heard them on vacation in Denver and later when they broadcast in Poughkeepsie for a time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm rsj:

holy David Lee Roth
  10:36pm JakeGould:

”Common cunning linguist.” Now THAT’s shitty lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Figgsrock:

The greatest shitty lyrics ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm efd:

CCarl, I'm hopeful that the statute of limitations has expired. Otherwise maybe I can grab one cheap on discogs ahead of the EFD Bump.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Figgsrock:

Also, I cannot get enough of Blackmore's solo on this.
  10:39pm JakeGould:

“A master of many tongues. And now she eases gently from her Austin to her Bentley. Suddenly she feels so young.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Ken From Hyde Park:

RIP Jon Lord - He really played the keyboards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Cubicle Carl:

@JakeGould: Yes, the quality of the cassette dub was the proof of a good album pressing. Because then you could listen to it on your car speakers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm rsj:

I've wanted to hear this for a long time
10:41pm Michael from the Left Coast:

Did Saxon actually sell any records? I remember On the Loose was in heavy rotation at MTV but I really don't know if they sold any records or not
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm jmd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Cubicle Carl:

Not sure efd, NYU is pretty litigious. They might repossess the House of Today.
10:42pm Michael from the Left Coast:

Sorry, Saga not Saxon
  10:42pm JakeGould:

@CubicleCarl: In my case it was an Aiwa walkman with Sony “Sport” yellow earbuds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Stevel:

Saga=near perfect hair metal/dance-waver fusion
Avatar 10:43pm Danne D:

Asia was the MUCH bigger album in 1982...just sayin'
Avatar 10:43pm Danne D:

Though more in the WAPP district than in, say, the Metal District. :)
  10:43pm JakeGould:

@DanneD: Too many things for fans of bands with 4 letter names to choose from in 1982.
10:44pm Michael from the Left Coast:

I know you played Rainbow already but it would be criminal not to include Since You've Been Gone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Chop Scott:

EFD! I thank you for this!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm jmd:

Crazy. I was just trying to remember Coney Hatch. I saw them open for Judas Priest. Great show EFD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm efd:

I'm afraid I'm going to be guilty of that crime, Michael!
  10:46pm JakeGould:

Coney Hatch: The Loudest Band in Toronto. coneyhatch.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Figgsrock:

Sweet Jebus. Honeymoon Suite. (I will admit to liking "Feel It Again" more.)
Avatar 10:49pm Danne D:

Great song :)
Avatar 10:50pm Holly in NC:

Owning that Asia concert baseball-T with the eyes right over my breasts taught me a LOT about certain of my male HS teachers, let me tell you. #disillusioned
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm efd:

I listened to "Feel It Again" this afternoon to refresh my memory, but I like this one better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Figgsrock:

They are both excellent tracks. And "New Girl Now" works better in this block.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thinking of Canadian bands, did Triumph have any good albums during the 80s?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm efd:

false ending got me!
  10:55pm JakeGould:

Gonna throw another one out there… Mama’s Boys, “Needle in the Groove.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Figgsrock:

I was a fan of Triumph's 1986 lp The Sport of Kings. "Somebody's Out There" is killer.
Avatar 10:56pm Danne D:

Shocked that 80s teachers would act in such a manner, Holly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm courtneynoir:

Oh Evan Oh Evan This is Heaven This is Heaven
  10:58pm Dave:

  11:00pm P-90:

I did not know that there even were any Motley Crüe instrumental tracks. One learns something new every time one turns on WFMURock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm Joel:

Some early Blue Oyster Cult... PLEAAASEEEEEEE !!!
  11:00pm Theo:

Can you play Faster Pussycat 'Bathroom Wall'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm Chop Scott:

EFD--what, no Triumph?
Avatar 11:02pm Danne D:

whoopsie - safe harbor :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Chop Scott:

Damn--Rhino Bucket!!! Again I thank you...
Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Ignore Function:

I'd like to hear something from the Ninja Warriors of Rock lp if that's in the station's library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

AC/DC-inspired for sure. Sounding very similar.
  11:06pm Carmichael:

Evan, hey! Hi peeps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm efd:

Theo - don't have any Faster Pussycat with me, sorry to say.

Dave - I *might* play a GnR track, but it won't be "Mr. Brownstone."

Chop Scott I think that Rhino Bucket is going to have to take the place of Triumph.
  11:08pm BitchGoddess:

Evan!!!! You have played songs I haven't heard in YEARS! I was dancing around my living room wishing I was at a live venue to truly enjoy all this music from days past. If you can please oblige me, on your next show, would you play something from Dangerous Toys, Bang Tango, Vain and if you're so inclined< Metal Church?
Your show ROCKS!!!!!

Avatar 11:08pm Holly in NC:

@Danne D - I assume that was sarcasm ;-). My excellent high school was closed my junior year, and I was unanimously elected head of stage crew at new shitty school by both my old crew and the new crew (all guys, all of whom I'd worked with before), and principal at new school told me I couldn't be head because "I was a girl". No lie. I didn't care to fight, too much other stuff in my life, so crew & I worked out that my friend Rob became titular head to appease the asshole, but I still ran everything ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Chop Scott:

EFD--Understood. Just keep doing what you are doing!
Avatar 11:09pm Danne D:

@Holly you sound like you were a regular Evita ;)
Avatar 11:10pm Danne D:

Hopefully I am sure EFD realizes any 'protests' on my part are in good humor - wouldn't wanna get kicked out of the metal district (presumably after a wedgie or 5)
  11:10pm Carmichael:

Triumph? I'm young, i'm wild, and I'm free? THAT Triumph?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Julie:

What have I wandered into here??
  11:10pm P:

Sea Hags and Circus of Power? Perhaps Junkyard makes an appearance.
Avatar 11:11pm Danne D:

The Metal District, Julie!
  11:11pm P-90:

The fact that Autocorrect actually recognizes the proper name "Motley Crüe", and puts the umlaut in so you don't have to, tickles my funny bone in a way few things do anymore. If we can have such marvels, can world peace truly be beyond our grasp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm efd:

Theo, maybe the next song will scratch your Faster Pussycat itch, so to speak; I tend to think of them at the same time, at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Julie:

I am frightened. But at least I have a lot of hair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Can someone explain how Tidal is supposed to be better than this. I'm having a hard time believing anything could be better than this.
  11:12pm Dave:

EFD: OK, I though one of the few tracks out of AFD that doesn't have swear words (and yet is one of the funkiest heroin songs ever) would make the cut. But I trust you. By the way, you do know GNR covered Whole Lotta Rosie live, don't you?
  11:13pm Carmichael:

Ratt ... I have nothing to say ....
Avatar 11:13pm Holly in NC:

Hi @Julie! Show us your hair! ;-)

@Danne - heh. Hardly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Chop Scott:

Ratt--perfect execution of the LA rock template.
  11:15pm P-90:

OK, no Triumph, but I know there's gotta be a Vandenberg song coming up somewhere...?
  11:15pm Dave:

Tesla - Heaven's Trail (No Way Out)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Figgsrock:

Nice deep cut on the Ratt. I interviewed Stephen Pearcy when his book came out. He led an, um, *interesting* life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Harry Cataracts:

Cranked all the way up !!!! NOT LOUD ENOUGH... I need my old equipment. You, how do they say ROCK, ESD !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Julie:

People mention Tidal I think, why is everyone talking about the first Fiona Apple album, epic though it may be.
  11:16pm Dave:

Yeah!!! Shake Me. I'll take it.
  11:17pm Carmichael:

Tesla are my hometown homeys, ha ha ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Figgsrock:

HELL YEAH. (This is reference to the greatness that is Cinderella.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm courtneynoir:

Oh. Yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm efd:

ooh, P-90, not sure if I'm gonna be able to squeeze that in! We're at the point where I'm trying to fit in all the "must-plays" I had in my head that I didn't get to yet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm efd:

alright Dave, deal!
  11:17pm JakeGould:

@HollyinNC: Sorry to hear about the shitty teachers. But hey, you are here and they are… Where?
  11:18pm Carmichael:

This sounds like Clay Pigeon :).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm courtneynoir:

I feel like I should, like, fix a car right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm efd:

Clay Pigeon and I will have to do a hair metal throwdown sometime...
  11:19pm Carmichael:

Yeah Holly. You are you, and they're stuck with being them.
  11:19pm Dave:

Questionable fashion senses and all, Tom Keifer rocks!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Figgsrock:

Okay, I assume I am the only person on here that saw Cinderella on the Night Songs tour? Still the loudest show I've been to, non-Bob Mould division.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm efd:

... but I've already used all my best material on this show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm Joel:

You could hit Clay with some Loudness from Japan.. definitely not your standard issue metal.. But really rocking
Avatar 11:22pm Danne D:

Avatar 11:22pm Holly in NC:

About time, efd ! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Figgsrock:

Definitely the most Deep Purple-ish intro in the Jovi catalog.
  11:23pm Dave:

Slippery When Wet on Vinyl? Well, it did sell millions of copies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm efd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm efd:

(that "I KNOW" directed to Holly, but also applies to Figgsrock's comment)
  11:24pm Carmichael:

I stand in awe of all you rockers. I am old enough to have partied with their dads.
  11:24pm JakeGould:

@HollyinNC: Best to clicky star that. When is the next time that would show up?
Avatar 11:24pm Danne D:

Just realized no Def Leppard yet...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm efd:

Def Leppard LP is in the studio, we'll see if it makes it to a turntable!
  11:26pm Dave:

Waiting for Love Bites here...or Hello America. Or Rocket (crazu Burundi drum samples)
Avatar 11:27pm Danne D:

Avatar 11:27pm Danne D:

Not DIO ugh
  11:27pm JakeGould:

Peter Cetera? Whoa… “Miami Vice Metal” in effect.
Avatar 11:27pm Danne D:

Sorry thought it was Holy Diver for a second there...
  11:28pm Dave:

That's what I thought.
Avatar 11:28pm Danne D:

Peter Cetera ripping off Dio? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm Figgsrock:

Peter Cetera tried to rock? What the hell?
  11:28pm Dave:

This should be called The Holy Power of Love
  11:29pm JakeGould:

Peter Cetera ripping off [anything while wearing a Bauhaus t-shirt under a jacket].
  11:29pm Carmichael:

So when we call you and ask who plays the most rock, your answer is "WFMU!!!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm efd:

I should point out this actually pre-dates "Holy Diver" by a couple of years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Julie:

Precious Metal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm courtneynoir:

I have a pal who would say "I can't even with this" and I might finally not wanna slap her
Avatar 11:30pm Danne D:

Peter Cetera getting in a time machine and ripping off Dio? ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm efd:

Steve Lukather with the axe-work on this one, not surprisingly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

We need to petition $mall ¢hange to continue Metal District for an hour or two after midnight.
Avatar 11:31pm Danne D:

WFMU where the music's so hot, you might get scalded! Unless you wear protective clothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Figgsrock:

Wow, I never knew the story of this album: en.wikipedia.org...
  11:31pm Dave:

Wasn't that guy on everything that made money back then? Didn't he also play the riff to M Jackson's Beat It? (I know the solo was EVH)
  11:31pm BitchGoddess:

EFD, My MAN, Theo turned me on to your show JUST tonight! I heard "Youth Gone Wild"and ran downstairs and started singing (quite poorly) along. Was enjoying the variety until Peter Cetera... HUH?!
Avatar 11:32pm Danne D:

I think a $mall ¢hange April Fool's show would have to start off with Lee Greenwood, no?
11:33pm Michael from the Left Coast:

Wait a minute--no Montrose?!
  11:33pm BitchGoddess:

This song is quite nostalgic, especially now that the speed limit is 65 in NJ. =)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm efd:

Glad you're enjoying (mostly?) the show, BitchGoddess - it's a once in a lifetime opportunity!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm efd:

Montrose is too early, Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Stevel:

Killer show to do my taxes to (woo!)

Also, welcome from Indiana. Perhaps you're heard of us? If you think boycotting anything about our state will help drive our governor to fix the stupid shit he's done, KEEP POURING IT ON!! We can take it. He doesn't give a shit about what people here think. Money? It works, every time.

Thank you.
  11:35pm BitchGoddess:

You mean you don't play EVERY Wednesday night?! =(
  11:35pm Dave:

  11:36pm Dave:

So you woke up blind...
Avatar 11:36pm Danne D:

EFD is here every Wednesday night - The Metal District, not so much :)
  11:36pm JakeGould:

@efd: This show should be bootlegged on two 90 minute cassettes and sold outside of the Meadowlands with a xeroxed cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm efd:

the production on this Love/Hate record is so weird.
  11:37pm BitchGoddess:

I concur Jake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Stevel:

JakeGould: Premium extra!!
  11:38pm JakeGould:

And when someone buys that bootleg, the seller should say, “This stuff is kid’s music… Here’s $10 change. Bye.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm efd:

BitchGoddess, I am on every Wednesday but my regular show sounds nothing like this. Check your calendar. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm courtneynoir:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm Stevel:

Loving the Johnny Crash vocal.
  11:39pm johnk77:

i can't drive 55 was part of Hagar's live show
at least as early as 1980
i know because i was bass&drum tech
on Hagar's UK and Europe tour that year
Sammy not the easiest front guy to work with
but the band was killer with
Chuck Ruff on drums
and Bill Church on bass
  11:40pm Dave:

I think EFD might be the only other person outside of Diane Kamikazee to kick this kind of shinola
  11:40pm JakeGould:

Will say, WFMU might be a decent home for a 1 hour metal power hour. Maybe done in the past? What about a 1/2 hour of metal?
11:40pm Michael from the Left Coast:

Wow--Chuck Ruff--a killer player notably with Edgar Winter
  11:41pm BitchGoddess:

I WANT MORE Metal Edge! It should be a nightly event..
It even burns calories and you don't even have to think about it, so much fun dancing around the living room. My commentary was a much needed breather.
  11:41pm Dave:

At least for today:(
  11:41pm JakeGould:

@Dave: Of course I forgot about Diane Kamikazee’s show. Damn me!
  11:41pm johnk77:

yep, drummer on Frankenstein:>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm Julie:

I have mini guitars signed by Steve Lukather
  11:43pm ScottC:

I can almost smell the beer soaked shag carpet and stale cigarette smoke in the basement practice studio...
Avatar 11:43pm map:

something about that love/hate song sounded like proto butt-rock (creed, nickelback, etc.)
  11:44pm Carmichael:

Jaysis. Grandpa's gotta lay down ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm jmd:

wrap the show with something off of I Against I?
  11:47pm Dave:

Cowbell Metal should be a genre of its own. Dr. Feelgood, Shake Me...Um. Nightrain. It's So Easy. Um. Welcome To The.. Ok, I like Appetite a lot. Sue me.
  11:47pm ScottC:

Actually all the metal bands in SF practiced at Turk St Studios in the absolute heart of the Tenderloin. People were living in cubby holes in the walls. They should make a movie about that place. Right across the street from the Sound Of Music which was a tranny bar that booked punk bands...
  11:47pm Dave:

map: you're onto something.
  11:48pm P:

Something off the Cult's Electric album?
  11:49pm Dave:

Was 1991 the cut-off year for this style of music?
  11:49pm BitchGoddess:

Thanks for the heads up EFD, and thanks for playing Warrant. They were a huge part of my generation of music. I will definitely check out your next show. ;)
  11:51pm ScottC:

I'm working on some Whitesnake art production right now for the upcoming tour - there is no cut-off date for this kind of music...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Next chance for EFD's April Fools mayhem will be April 1, 2020. Just five years away!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm efd:

Last two songs are already cued up, everyone.

Thank you all for the great comments and enthusiasm - I wasn't sure how this show would be received, I'm psyched that you enjoyed it so much!
  11:52pm JakeGould:

@efd: Thanks for this. Best “prank” in decades!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm efd:

I will go to sleep wondering if I should have played Enuff Z'nuff instead of Warrant.
11:53pm Michael from the Left Coast:

A few hours of unironic metal and hard rock--what could be wrong about that?
  11:53pm JakeGould:

@Dave: 1991 was the year that punk broke, right? So yes.
  11:54pm Dave:

EFD: Jokes's on whom? I mean I actually like... Hey!!!
  11:54pm johnk77:

wally heiders san francisco
later hyde st. studios
was also in the tenderloin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm jmd:

X2 Michael/Left Coast comment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm efd:

There's a website called Sleaze Roxx that has bios of all the bands from this era, and nearly every single one has a line like "but then grunge became popular and the band broke up."
Avatar 11:56pm Danne D:

Great Show EFD :)

Feel free to go "Dukes of Stratsophear" on us and do this again some other time ;)
  11:56pm JakeGould:

I believe that Soundgarden was the first non-metal/not-really-punk band to bridge the divide before grunge became a full-on thing.
  11:57pm ScottC:

@johnk77 Yea, Hyde St Studio was production right around the corner - well down the block a ways... A lot of punk bands recorded at Hyde St Studios.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Chop Scott:

Killer show, again I thank you EFD!!!! Cheers!
Avatar 11:59pm Danne D:

Bye EFD :)
Bye Everyone :)
Bye Holly :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Ken From Hyde Park:

Yep, a very cool show.
  12:08am Theo Stieve:

Hey Evan:

No probs with the Faster Pussycat. Just thought it was fitting. I have to tell you that my girl Bitch Goddess and I danced for hours in our living room. Thank you for that!
Avatar 11:00am tonyb:

just have to spin "gypsy road"
i can go catch my train
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Kat in Chicago:

Sorry I missed this live but looks like a great one to rock in the office later today (on headphones of course).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Iikka from Helsinki:

Listening from the archives, but I strongly feel Snake should visit Metal District at least once a year. AT LEAST.
