	9:33am blee: A halibut stole my frisbee once. My sister and I were throwing it while waist deep in the ocean. He jumped straight up, grabbed it out of her hands, and swam away w it while she screamed. It was the best way to lose a frisbee.

	9:35am blee: It was a floppy silicone frisbee, bright green. He was a large Pacific Halibut. It didn't work out, but they had their fun.

What happened is that was an ardent lefty and very vocal about Germany needing to acknowledge all it had wrought in WW2, then it turned out he had been a member of the Hitler Youth and Waffen SS.

	11:01am Cecile: Yeah, that's what it was. I don't hold that against him that much. If you didn't flee Germany and you were a kid, you kind of had to join Hitler Youth. the nicest, most tolerant German lady I knew was in Hitler Youth. I just flat out asked her when I was a kid. And then when she told me "yes", I asked her if she had a choice, and the answer was pretty much "no".

	11:05am Cecile: there was a phrase I learned used for those people who were very unenthusiastic participants on the German side of WWII, and passively undermined their side.
	11:06am Cecile: A lot of people love that book. I read the first few pages of my friend's copy in HS, and was freaked out.
	♥ 11:07am Polyus: I think that's a big part of it, Cecile. He was called up at 17. But most of his critics saw him as pretty smug (and he kinda was) about picking at things that a lot of Germans wanted to forget about. So those revelations were pounced on extra hard.

	11:12am Claw!: I'm gonna interject in this book discussion by saying this: IF YOU MISS BEING SCARED BY A MOVIE, HOLY SHIT, YOU NEED TO SEE "IT FOLLOWS" AS SOON AS YOUR LEGS CAN TAKE YOU TO THE THEATER.

	11:14am Cecile: Claw! I heard that was intense. however, Get Hard was absolutely horrible. I didn't have a choice about going. Worst family outing ever. And I'm a huge Adam McKay/Will Ferrell fan.

	11:16am Claw!: I cannot recommend that movie enough. It's so refreshing and brilliant. The score is also fantastic - it's like Boards of Canada and John Carpenter had a baby. Even the poster is really cool and throwback-looking. It really is a classic horror film fan's dream come true. PLEASE GO SEE IT. You will not be disappointed.
	11:17am sugarwolf: I want to see It Follows. The Babadook and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night are coming to Netflix streaming this month & I have heard good things about those.
	♥ 11:18am Polyus: The Mpls/St Paul International Film Festival is happening right now, and I haven't even sat down to sift through the dozens and dozens of entries to see what looks good.
	11:20am Claw!: Babadook was alright - I'd recommend it, if only for the protagonist's acting. It was creepy, but not as scary as everyone was hyping it up to be. But "It Follows" was DEFINITELY scary. And I don't scare at movies. I'll prolly decide to catch "A Girl Walks Home" once I hear more about it, provided it's favorable. :)
	11:22am pierre: I really enjoyed the Badabook, to me it was everything I enjoy in a scary movie. Psychology, absurd, genuine jumpy moments, and good acting. Plus I find the plot pretty original.

	11:27am Earl: The music and sound design made the film for me. Original score by Disasterpeace is available on LP. So good.
	11:27am Claw!: What's really remarkable about "It Follows" is that it doesn't rely on jump scares as much as most contemporary horror films (there might be, like, three, tops), and there's almost no gore. It's all psychological. The score really helps with setting the mood. And the "villain" is also a supremely original concept.... Not a ghost, not a zombie, not a monster, not a slasher... just... disturbing! I have been fangirling over this movie since I got out of the theater last night. I could go on and on (obviously!). Just go see it!!!!!

	11:29am Claw!: Yeah, Greg - the old school poster is fucking boss! Everything about this movie is amazing. And Chris - this movie makes Jumanji seem like a kid's movie. Bruce Lee would've been too scared to be in it.

	11:46am d¢ pät: I lasted 2 nights at a Red Lobster as dishwasher. Burnt my hands on hot dishes! That's when I realized I might want to look into college.
	11:46am βrian: There is no smell more heinous than that of a neglected grease trap. Enough to make vultures cry.
	11:46am redkayak: At LJS you had to kind of drag the shrimps into the oil - kicking up the grease onto my hands. Of course the line of patrons were right there watching us cook, so you couldn't swear, lol.....
	11:47am Cecile: I spent about three years in food service, when I figured out that I might want to get out of it before I became a crippled drunk.

What happened is that was an ardent lefty and very vocal about Germany needing to acknowledge all it had wrought in WW2, then it turned out he had been a member of the Hitler Youth and Waffen SS.

	11:01am Cecile: Yeah, that's what it was. I don't hold that against him that much. If you didn't flee Germany and you were a kid, you kind of had to join Hitler Youth. the nicest, most tolerant German lady I knew was in Hitler Youth. I just flat out asked her when I was a kid. And then when she told me "yes", I asked her if she had a choice, and the answer was pretty much "no".

	11:16am Claw!: I cannot recommend that movie enough. It's so refreshing and brilliant. The score is also fantastic - it's like Boards of Canada and John Carpenter had a baby. Even the poster is really cool and throwback-looking. It really is a classic horror film fan's dream come true. PLEASE GO SEE IT. You will not be disappointed.

	♥ 11:18am Polyus: The Mpls/St Paul International Film Festival is happening right now, and I haven't even sat down to sift through the dozens and dozens of entries to see what looks good.
	11:20am Claw!: Babadook was alright - I'd recommend it, if only for the protagonist's acting. It was creepy, but not as scary as everyone was hyping it up to be. But "It Follows" was DEFINITELY scary. And I don't scare at movies. I'll prolly decide to catch "A Girl Walks Home" once I hear more about it, provided it's favorable. :)

	11:27am Claw!: What's really remarkable about "It Follows" is that it doesn't rely on jump scares as much as most contemporary horror films (there might be, like, three, tops), and there's almost no gore. It's all psychological. The score really helps with setting the mood. And the "villain" is also a supremely original concept.... Not a ghost, not a zombie, not a monster, not a slasher... just... disturbing! I have been fangirling over this movie since I got out of the theater last night. I could go on and on (obviously!). Just go see it!!!!!
