Just happened to be peeking to see if you were underway at the very moment today's page sprang to life. it was like witnessing the birth of a new Kardashian by serendipity. Or something.
who's ready for a full day of laundry and cleaning 78s?

P-90:
What's your preferred method for cleaning 78s? I've watched collector friends flushing them with tapwater in the kitchen sink, explaining that it's still the best way. Do you just toss yours in with the laundry? "Delicate" cycle with the pantyhose, etc.?
I've only ever done soap and water which does a good job. I imagine wood glue, if done right would work well.

I read about that wood-glue thing somewhere recently. If you're interested in some experienced advice, you might email MAC and Mike of Ragged Antique Phonograph fame, I'd bet they'd be very generous with some well-seasoned advice.
@cory: I have heard multiple people getting really good results from a combination isopropyl alcohol, distilled water, and a few drops of either Dawn dishwashing detergent or Photoflo - the amount of each seems to vary widely, depending on who you ask. Have not tried it myself.
Cleaning records? When I was a kid I remember going to the library, where you could actually check out records like books, and watching the librarians scrub the returned records with Fantastic spray and a sponge.
We used to have a case of macaroons that we kept in the basement. "Hey, let's get some macaroons!" REALLY GOOD and a little too convenient. Rather like a stockpile of Thin Mints in the freezer.

It's genuinely fascinating to hear how many "folk recipes" for cleaning 78s there are. I think one of the times I saw this done, it was a sponge used to apply a week solution of Palmolive (or similar) to the grooves, which were then flushed directly under the tap, avoiding the "brown water build-up"issue. I remember remarking upon the precision with which he avoided wetting the labels, and being told that became second nature with practice.
Sometimes people still call me when they could just as easily text. All I can think is, why the f are you calling me when you could just as easily text?
The only reason I dont completely hate getting calls on my cell phone is because half the time it's actually something important or somebody I want to speak to. But the percentage of 'wanted' calls on my cell just keeps getting lower and lower.
The wiki entry on Phantom Vibration leads to the page on Pareidolia, which is vague and random stimulus (image or sound) being perceived as significant. Seeing shapes in clouds, or hearing messages while listening to records backwards. en.wikipedia.org...
PMD is my adoptive mother everybody and she has ordered me to do a show where I use only cat GIFs but clearly she cant even see if I am doing that or not, so how does everybody like all the cat GIFSs today?
You're punking me Chris. That's not the name of the song. Youre just seeing if you can say ANYTHING and I will put it into the playlist, right? This is your own little twisted Turing test, isn't it?
cute idea - BRINGING swag to people. (but seriously, maybe have a PICKUP point for swag. like, maybe a cool record store will say "sure, we can hold 50packages and if they come here within a week, no problem")
more HEARTY WHITE-isms, inspired by the skip/burp that was happening. hearty read some poetry and said "now, am i a genius or a charlatan? well, since i like you i'll tell you the truth, i'm a charlatan"
Can everybody who is hearing the stream hiccuping weigh in here and let me know EXACT details about how you are listening - which stream, which browser, computer or phone, etc etc.
@Ken - It was like when the drummer stream swaps over from Doug to Matt. I am on safari 6.2.4 on a mac 10.8.5

The pop-up player (via Firefox) "burped" during the "Big Blood", in a way that happens occasionally and is always reported by a few people simultaneously on Comments Board, and usually responds to restarting the player. It hasn't happened again, for me, since then.
Ken -- hiccuping occurs often when i listen via the pop-up through Chrome. on a PC. Today I am experimenting with the 128K MP3 stream, also through chrome on a PC, and it is very steady.
I just recently found out that Leland Stanford had a son, (Jr.), who died in childhood. So Sr. named Stanford University after him. The band isn't a Junior band, it is "Leland Stanford Junior" University Marching Band.
I remember the Nancy from which that was a frame. It was pretty funny. She figures her taxes kid style, goes to IRS to file, and the clerk concludes she's owed a 5 cent refund, which he dispenses on the spot. The last frame is the clerk deluged with a line of children w tax forms.
