Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Favoriting May 14, 2015: Back at Union Square

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Artist Track Album Label Year Format Comments Approx. start time

An interview with Yuri in Union Square Park
Duran Duran  Save A Prayer   Favoriting Rio  EMI/Capitol  1982  MP3  04:05 - 07:04 I thought about playing Wild Boys or Union of the Snake; the big production stuff. I like Ordinary World, too. Came back to this one because Simon sings it so well. I think I may have underappreciated him.  0:04:33 (Pop-up)

An Interview with Biker Ed
Bob Seger  Roll Me Away   Favoriting The Distance  Capitol  1983  MP3  12:52 - 16:08 I like other Bob Seger songs better, I guess. Hollywood Nights, Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, Main Street, so many. I saw him open for REO back in the mid-'70's. He was fantastic. This came later on as I recall. He sings it really well. Love Bob.  0:12:45 (Pop-up)

Unless noted, the music under the interviews is created with combinations of Garageband loops treated with various digital effects. My levels weren't the best. Too quiet. Too loud. Last minute.

An Interview with a Math Teacher in Union Square Park
Dirty Vegas  Days Go By   Favoriting   Capitol  2002  MP3  20:10 - 21:01
Jobriath  World Without End   Favoriting Jobriath  Elektra  1973  MP3  22:15 - 25:14 Always remember Jobriath/Cole Berlin. The pyramid on top of the Chelsea Hotel.  0:22:13 (Pop-up)

Young Man and Woman in the Park
Background acoustic guitar - C. Pigeon

Marilyn Manson  Deep Six (Excerpts)   Favoriting The Pale Emporer  Hell, etc./Interscope  2014  MP3  36:42 - 38:54 I digitized this background music from different sections of the song.

Man Beside Ghandi Statue in Union Square Park
Cameo  Candy   Favoriting Word Up!  Atlanta Artists  1986  MP3  40:02 - 43"02 I like the power chords that sneak in. Awesome song!  0:39:51 (Pop-up)

An Interview with Kayne Precise in USP

An Interview with Ed in Union Square - Part II
Vladimir Cosma  Sentimental Walk   Favoriting Diva - Original Soundtrack  DRG Records  1981  LP  54:22 - 55:36 - The last thrift store record I've purchased, last winter in some little Vermont basement thrift store. $1
Gregg Allman  Midnight Rider   Favoriting Laid Back  Capricorn  1973  MP3  55:36 - 1:00:01 My favorite version of the Gregg Allman classic.  0:57:36 (Pop-up)
Thank you for listening to this episode of The Dusty Show. I hope you enjoyed it. After many music shows and live shows, with and without Fabio, I've been trying to gat back outside again and to do some interviews. After two weeks of protest programs (the second of which, the MayDay Show, had the lowest listener comment count in recent history, it was good to just talk to people about life and this and that. I also enjoyed selecting the songs, all of which I downloaded the night before the show. I like to not think too much about it - the music - so I don't waste time looking for the perfect song. That Bob Seger I played wasn't his best. I know it. But I played it anyway, and I'm glad I did - because it was a song bikers in the midwest like, and why not. Bob always delivers some honest Michigan soul. I loved the Jobriath and the Obituary. The Cameo is a pleasure for me. Larry Blackmon is pretty awesome. And the Gregg Allman I've always loved. Haunting. Much in the same way I've been digging the Savoy Brown, Hellbound Train track of late.

The weeks fly by. Another month another year. I feel like Dusty is way up and then enters little troughs. People come and go. some of you stay year after year. I appreciate it. Until next time, enjoy the warmer weather, have fun, and always remember ...

It's really not too terrible for airfare if you're going from NYC hubs since it's close and what not. I actually have a friend who's completely impromptu on the fly visiting there really soon and round trip was like 630 bucks.

Avatar 6:33pm
Slick Goldtooth:

@Mike , I highly recommend using Skiplagged for booking, basically it beats the pants off Kayak and specifically looks for the lower ticket costs possible. Great for any airfare tbh. I was in Croatia in February, had a short stop in Poland both ways and it was about 670 or so. I'd say only downside was it was a bit of an off season and sorta mildish-brisk so not really much swim action to be had on Croatia's lovely beaches
