Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
Greetings Gaylord and all the Gaylordained here gathered. Perfect playlist openers for this stormy late spring Sunday evening. And great to see you, Therese, Amanda, Irwin, Todd, and the rest of the gang at Joe Belock's extraordinary event Friday night with Bobby Hart and Rachel Lichtman!
@dale: It's such a musically ambitious porn soundtrack that it beggars belief!

Yep, June 17-20, 1970. Laura sent him flowers.
Great stuff today Gaylord!

All four nights of that run of Miles shows are on the 4-CD set, "The Bootleg Series Vol. 3: Miles Davis at the Fillmore." And I join everyone else who envies you being there, middle...but at least the rest of us can hear the music now. Gaylord, love your show. Was not familiar with Able Tasmans before...that was really pretty. So is the Notwist. Freeform indeed.
@Mark: Barış Manço looks like the international rock god he should have been all along.

Oh, man, this takes me back. I know it was played to death on AOR radio back in the 70s, but "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is still a great album, dammit. Just because everybody liked it doesn't mean it sucked.
- popularity may mean a.) association w/ trendy buttheads, b.) overexposure - but I don't feel that about this Elton...tempted to call him the *real* Billy Joel in fact, but we don't need to go there...

Lovely, lovely, lovely! Gaylord, thank you for taking me to a happy/sad Elton John place--forgot how much he mattered to me oncet.
@JakeGould: This is the only song I had pre-planned to play on this show, but I didn't plan where or how to lead up to it. I'm pretty happy with how I managed it.
Weird 1970s thing: Connecting to Elton John emotionally in private as he'd come up on popular radio; odd for Glam? Oh wait - that's my own smalltown introvert thing...nevermind...
...Matt Johnson *should* do soundtracks...
Had a rough drive through woodsy Staten Island coming from my grandma's wake but the first 20 minutes of your show got me through it. Lovely. Thank you.
@Honky Tonk Radio Girl: Glad to be of auto assistance! (And speaking of the new schedule, one can -- and should -- find Becky, the Honky Tonk Radio Girl, on Mondays, 7-8 pm ET.)
@HonkyTonkRadioGirl: My condolences on the loss of your Grandma. That said, really looking forward to your show! The Monday timeslot seems perfect… At least to me.
Apropos to nothing, saw this link from a friend that shows how crazy Sand Francisco real estate is. $800,000 for a creepy “fixer upper” with a classic car in the basement. Mama mia! 1155monterey.com
@sugarwolf: Well, if your friend has $800,000 lying around and has no problem moving into a disturbingly creepy house with a classic car in the basement, go for it!
@unpopularfred: You win the comments board -- this time...

Aww thanks so much for including us in today's set!! We're loving your show as always and were so surprised. Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday!!
@ashley morey: It was my pleasure and privilege! Someone just called to ask me about your song! I was more than pleased to extol away! And I (and many local listeners, I hope) will see you on Wednesday at Monty Hall!
her music so perfectly describes my taste it's like there's this big hole in my brain where all the stuff she would have done should be. makes me all the more grateful for what we DO have from her.
