Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...okay - you'd think the best-selling Jazz album of all time would be played out - but no, under 'timeless' in the dictionary...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
Gaylord Fields:

Hi, sugarwolf!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Which is why I had no qualms whatsoever about starting my show with a song from it. Also: Freeform radio.
  5:06pm
middlebun:

Best concert I ever saw was when Miles opened for Laura Nyro at the Filmore East.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& if you tell us what you paid for that ticket late 60s, I must kill us all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
Gaylord Fields:

@middlebun: You can't see my eyes because this is radio, but you can probably still tell that they're green.
  5:19pm
Herb:

Gaylord you do an amazing show. Hey middlebun what year did Miles openning for Laura Niro?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, @Herb!
  5:21pm
P-90:

Greetings Gaylord and all the Gaylordained here gathered. Perfect playlist openers for this stormy late spring Sunday evening. And great to see you, Therese, Amanda, Irwin, Todd, and the rest of the gang at Joe Belock's extraordinary event Friday night with Bobby Hart and Rachel Lichtman!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
Gaylord Fields:

Hiya, P-90! Back atcha! I had a great time there!
  5:25pm
Santos L Halper:

@herb: I think there's a pic of that marquee in the Fillmore box, I'll check. That would've been spring 70?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
dale:

that last song had a real richard clayderman feel to it. such beauty in porn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
Gaylord Fields:

@dale: It's such a musically ambitious porn soundtrack that it beggars belief!
  5:28pm
Santos L Halper:

Yep, June 17-20, 1970. Laura sent him flowers.
Great stuff today Gaylord!
  5:31pm
Markreichard:

All four nights of that run of Miles shows are on the 4-CD set, "The Bootleg Series Vol. 3: Miles Davis at the Fillmore." And I join everyone else who envies you being there, middle...but at least the rest of us can hear the music now. Gaylord, love your show. Was not familiar with Able Tasmans before...that was really pretty. So is the Notwist. Freeform indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Santos L Halper: Thanks!

@Markreichard: Also, thanks to you!

Comin' down like cats and dogs over here, G! You're always great when those scary thunderboomers come thru.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
Gaylord Fields:

We'll weather the storm together, Monica. I'm holding your hand through the airwaves.

Mark:

Wow, Baris Manco is gorgeous, too.
  5:42pm
phat:

had to turn this up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
dale:

elton does prog. love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Mark: Barış Manço looks like the international rock god he should have been all along.
  5:42pm
Mark:

Oh, man, this takes me back. I know it was played to death on AOR radio back in the 70s, but "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is still a great album, dammit. Just because everybody liked it doesn't mean it sucked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Mark: Let that be a lesson to everyone: Sometimes, the masses aren't asses.
  5:43pm
P-90:

[quickly donning headphones, turning out lights]
  5:45pm

PS I'm very very happy you're holding steady in your regular time slot on the Summer Schedule. Music to barbecue and stab each other with Jarts by.
Avatar 5:45pm
sugarwolf:

popular doesn't mean automatically good OR bad....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: Precisely! The popularity or lack thereof of a work of art is utterly irrelevant to me with regard to its quality.
  5:47pm
phat:

this had to be one fun record to make.
  5:47pm
JakeGould:

Damn! Perfect timing. Was just listening to some Elton John earlier today. Thank you kind sir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- popularity may mean a.) association w/ trendy buttheads, b.) overexposure - but I don't feel that about this Elton...tempted to call him the *real* Billy Joel in fact, but we don't need to go there...
  5:49pm
frenchee:

Lovely, lovely, lovely! Gaylord, thank you for taking me to a happy/sad Elton John place--forgot how much he mattered to me oncet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm
Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: This is the only song I had pre-planned to play on this show, but I didn't plan where or how to lead up to it. I'm pretty happy with how I managed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Elton may have had some tiny kind of Fun @ some point...just possible...
  5:50pm
frenchee:

@JakeGould @Gaylord: MEEE TOOOOO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
Gaylord Fields:

@frenchee: I wanted to remind myself how much I liked Elton, and I'm glad I was able to elicit the same emotion from you and others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
Ike:

"The The Family Way?" Is that where Matt Johnson becomes a fundie Mormon and gets three women pregnant at the same time?
  5:51pm
stevej:

Haven't heard this in forever. Still like it though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm

phat:

holy shit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Weird 1970s thing: Connecting to Elton John emotionally in private as he'd come up on popular radio; odd for Glam? Oh wait - that's my own smalltown introvert thing...nevermind...
...Matt Johnson *should* do soundtracks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm
dale:

it's an hour long rock block!
  5:58pm
Mark:

Also love Elton's live-in-studio "11-17-70" record. Just the trio at that point (no Davey Johnstone yet) and they really rocked it!
  5:59pm
Mark:

Marvin's trumpet player is very uptight. (I mean that as a compliment.)

Had a rough drive through woodsy Staten Island coming from my grandma's wake but the first 20 minutes of your show got me through it. Lovely. Thank you.

@sugarwolf: Faye and I are currently in negotiations on how much Fayelord we will foist upon the listeners.

@HonkyTonkRadioGirl: My condolences on the loss of your Grandma. That said, really looking forward to your show! The Monday timeslot seems perfect… At least to me.
  6:14pm
JakeGould:

Also, I want to see a Fayelord logo. Preferably in ball point pen on the back of a notebook with umlauts and sharp edges.

Apropos to nothing, saw this link from a friend that shows how crazy Sand Francisco real estate is. $800,000 for a creepy “fixer upper” with a classic car in the basement. Mama mia! 1155monterey.com

@JakeGould was just talking with my friend about the price SF real estate/housing (her sister lives in Oakland)
  6:21pm
JakeGould:

@sugarwolf: Well, if your friend has $800,000 lying around and has no problem moving into a disturbingly creepy house with a classic car in the basement, go for it!

New album Jacco? Gifted young self-producer, szheesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm

This song is "Fay" without an "e" -- so it has nothing to do with my cohort.
