Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Webhamster Henry:

Hi Kurt, giving the Drummer some today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am listener james from westwood:

How do, Kurt and all. Good Friday and pre-weekend!
Avatar 9:05am Kurt Gottschalk:

Good morning good people of webstreamland!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am listener james from westwood:

Must also remember to hit the Talk Is Cheap archive later. Radio riches this morning!
Avatar 9:10am duke:

Good morning Kurt and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am ausmanx:

minotaur virgin here, kurt, since your hours are unsociable for we in the antipodes (sydney, to be precise...) though our paths crossed because i edited jon rose's last book... so good evening to you and surrogate drummers
Avatar 9:13am Kurt Gottschalk:

hey, hi! thanks for the editing! and thanks for tuning in, to you and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Gary:

Listening while I work ... howdy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Jeff Golick:

Listening while I waste time...hi, Kurt, all assembled!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Gary:

We need to waste some time together soon, Jeff -- I'm around!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am MD:

Hey! When is WFMU getting their ticker tape Parade!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Jeff Golick:

Agreed, Gary! Will email you...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Jeff Golick:

...did the show recently cut back to the stream...? How are things looking by you, Kurt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Jeff Golick:

That is: not hearing Crispell/Hemingway now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Gary:

I'm hearing a song with the chorus "gotta get away right now gotta get away ..."
Avatar 9:33am Kurt Gottschalk:

oh damn, yes it seems to have. i guess i should stop and restart?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Gary:

Yes, that might fix it, Kurt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am listener james from westwood:

Was wondering about that GTDR ID I heard a minute back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Alex In Illinois:

Should we stop and restart our players too?
Avatar 9:37am Kurt Gottschalk:

nope, doesn't seem to be overriding. sigh.
  9:38am Uncle Michael:

I'm on the highway. Is everything okay? I didn't know I wasn't hearing a live show until I heard Doug promo at the bottom of the hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Jeff Golick:

Hmmm. You've clicked the stop/play button in SAMcast?
Try Amanda or Matt, if you have their info handy?
  9:40am Uncle Michael:

Do I assume correctly that Jeff Moore is not in the building?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Gary:

Yes, Jeff M will be able to help
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am doctorjazz:

Hi all, great show so far!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Alex In Illinois:

It started out okay. I am pretty sure I was hearing Lester Bowie's brass work earlier.
Avatar 9:44am Kurt Gottschalk:

we're trying here. thanks for the lookout!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Alex In Illinois:

@Doctorjazz: all of the music has been good, but somewhere after Lester Bowie, the music we started hearing and the music that Kurt is actually programming diverged, so that it reverted back to the stream instead of the current show. So that is what the recent comments have been about.
Avatar 9:47am glenn:

two shows today, kurt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am doctorjazz:

Ahhh, the playlist says Marylyn Crispell, I'm hearing country music, must be the stream (the pop up player lists what is on the playlist). Just came back from a meeting, missed the earlier conversation.
Avatar 9:51am glenn:

funny, if a little sad. www.washingtonpost.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am doctorjazz:

We are just on the stream (which ain't bad), nothing has been listed after Crispell on the playlist.
Avatar 9:55am Kurt Gottschalk:

we're working on it. it's a tricky picasso, apparently.
Avatar 9:55am βrian:

Dayton Sidewinders is what I'm hearing.
Avatar 9:57am V Priceless:

sorry to hear you need help with your stream, KG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Jeff Golick:

Feeling your pain, Kurt, and wanting you to know that I'll hang until you get it sorted. (Then I'm leaving in a huff.)
Avatar 9:58am βrian:

Now I'm hearing Malai Kofta Kashmiri ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Alex In Illinois:

@doctorjazz: I thought I would bring you up to speed mainly because I did not want anyone to mistake my comment about things being good until after Lester Bowie for a critical remark about music programming choices. I've actually been enjoying both the intentional and unintentional music choices. I think stream issues like this have happened to everyone at least once. It has even happened to Doug a few times.
Avatar 10:00am ndbob:

Same here
Avatar 10:01am duke:

It's all good either way. I'm sure Kurt is pulling his hair out, but the music is good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am doctorjazz:

Haven't been listening previously when the program didn't work and the stream took over. Have to say, that the whole thing works at all is amazing to me, and all the music put into the database that is the stream is just amazing. Don't know what it took to set it up, but I'm sure it must have been some undertaking. Hoping Kurt gets back on, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Webhamster Henry:

It kind of reminds me of when my radio would drift over to WPAT, and I'd think "What is Irwin up to now?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Jeff Golick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am listener james from westwood:

@Alex and @doctorjazz: True that re: Doug. Stream glitches here and there for everyone now and again. And also true re: the fact that all of this works, esp. on such a tightly run and -funded ship as FMU.
Music just switched out of "Begin the Beguine"—good sign?
Avatar 10:07am Kurt Gottschalk:

i think we're back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Webhamster Henry:

That was the Ferrante & Teicher reject filter kicking in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am listener james from westwood:

Doug has noticed occasionally that MORE people hop on the stream during outages, and nobody seems to drop. That GTDR baseline station is a killer one!
Yay Kurt!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am listener james from westwood:

And yay Webmaster Henry! F&T can get theirs some other day!
Avatar 10:08am V Priceless:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am doctorjazz:

Back to our regularly scheduled program, great!
Avatar 10:09am ndbob:

Avatar 10:09am βrian:

Good filling, Kurt! Is that lemon zest in there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Alex In Illinois:

Yay! Kurt is back! Why are some of us with names in purple and others in red?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Gary:

Confederate flag was just officially removed from SC's State House grounds
Avatar 10:14am βrian:

Was is a ceremony? I can't imagine. Good riddance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Jeff Golick:

Way to do it, Kurt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Gary:

There was a crowd cheering it on
  10:15am pickles:

Yay! I'm in. This is a good time! Hi Kurt!
Avatar 10:16am βrian:

Reminds me of the lyrics, "send my mouth way down south to kiss my ass goodbye."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Webhamster Henry:

I wonder what shows up in the archive when the stream cuts out like that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am listener james from westwood:

Oh, I am glad we didn't miss this one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Jeff Golick:

@Webhamster Henry: it depends on whether the dj is recording a version locally or not. If so, the archive is as the show was played. If not, the archived show is as it was heart (ie, with the stream cut-ins).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Jeff Golick:

heart = hearD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Webhamster Henry:

Thanks @Jeff!
Avatar 10:27am Kurt Gottschalk:

i was recording a backup but we restarted the computer so there's not that neither. ah well - radio is supposed to be ephemeral anyway.
Avatar 10:28am Kurt Gottschalk:

alex - the difference in name color is probably just due to whether or not you've clicked on someone's name to see their profile in the past, like any other 'already clicked' link.
Avatar 10:28am βrian:

That's why you can never step into the same stream twice.
Avatar 10:29am Kurt Gottschalk:

ha, exactly
Avatar 10:29am Jeff:

It's all just a beautiful sand mandala.
Avatar 10:30am V Priceless:

Avatar 10:31am Kurt Gottschalk:

winky face, vp!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Carmichael:

Kurt! A pleasant surprise on a Friday morning.
Avatar 11:17am Kurt Gottschalk:

morning, carm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am doctorjazz:

Love this version of God Bless The Child.
Avatar 11:18am Kurt Gottschalk:

yeah, it's fantastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Carmichael:

Just heard that Omar Sharif passed on. On the other hand, Jake LaMotta is 94 today.
Avatar 11:22am glenn:

he's gone to that great bridge table in the sky.
Avatar 11:23am Kurt Gottschalk:

i kinda hate it when people say "he was still alive," but, he was still alive?
  11:27am Dean:

A new Crispell/Hemingway? Now that's cool.
  11:47am P-90:

Thanks Kurt, nice to get a Minotaurs fix this morning!
Avatar 11:47am βrian:

Blessed marimbas, this is nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Webhamster Henry:

There's a new Clapping Music app to try out:
  11:52am P-90:

...missed the first half, wasnt watching the "fill-ins" list closely enough; but I can testify that half a miniature is still a miniature!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Mike East:

That's a lotta marimbas!
Avatar 11:54am Kurt Gottschalk:

ha, yes, p-ninety, this minotaur was extra miniature
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Jeff Golick:

I am imagining that some of the dudes from today's gif are playing the marimbas.
  11:56am P-90:

It's "marimba-riffic", kids!
Avatar 11:56am V Priceless:

cool Reich piece! Thanks for a swell show, Kurt! Always a pleasure! Come back soon!
Avatar 11:57am Kurt Gottschalk:

i'll be back in two weeks, filling in for nick name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Jeff Golick:

@Webhenry - that clap app is no joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Kurt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am listener james from westwood:

Glad I hung in, and glad to have had you on! Thanks, Kurt!
Avatar 11:58am ndbob:

excellent show Kurt!
Avatar 11:59am Kurt Gottschalk:

glad you did as well, james and everyone out there.
