howdy, cheri. if folks here haven't seen the youtube clip of the 1975 country music awards wherein a very intoxicated charlie rich lights fire to john denver's entertainer of the year ballot - it's a scorcher! www.youtube.com...

cheri:
monica, do have any idea if you will return in the fall? let's hope so!
@sugarwolf: Yesterday I heard from a Dutchess County denizen that the Doobie Brothers are this year's featured act. They're no Charo, even if Michael McDonald was still in the group, and the What's Happening gang were there bootlegging it.
Thank you, Gaylord! your show is an important part of my weekly ritual! Tonight The Mighty Manfred is our guest at the turntables so he's doing all the heavy lifting :D
Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Pat Boone actually made a couple of good ones (and that was a Gary Usher production, so no surprise on the resemblance).
6:10pm
P-90:
Charo is excellent, one of a distinguished line of fine musicians who honed their craft in the X. Cugat Orchestra. Her broken-English Mexican-Bardot "Coochie-Coochie" routine was an afterthought that was encouraged by the talk show bookers who thought it was SO cute...
And Pat Boone did produce some real winners, when he was working more as a straight Dino-style crooner, instead of doing those much-ridiculed "sanitized" R&B/R&R covers that Little Richard still likes to bitch about about half a century later. I confess: I always liked "Love Letters in the Sand".
@P-90: "Moody River" is one that's strongly in his plus column. I think many of his non-watered-down covers are worthy pop songs. But pee-yew on his ruining so many great R&B songs.
@sunshine: Both the soap opera and the song are based on a real-life Brazilian woman who went from slavery to a position of nobility.
6:34pm
P-90:
OK: on your honor NOT to use a search engine, just your natural noggin-borne knowledge, this week's P-90 No-Prize goes to the first FieldsFan who can name the movie for which Pat Boone's "Love Letters in the Sand" was the theme. Care to take a swing at this one, @Jake G?

A painter/beatster from Lowell, Mass., named Huck, told me about Johnny Smith, summer, 1969. Thought you need to know that Gaylord. Great show.
@ Real Nitty Gritty Tania: That is your assignment! Ananda ROCKS!
6:40pm
sunshine:
I saw some episodes and was hooked- the story is interesting (rags to riches- good fantasy) and the romance, and the way Xica would dance when she spoke- enchanting!
I like that you play some Brazilian music- thank you! among all the other wonderful music... enjoying...
totally! it's almost Giallo soundtrack-like. You played Ananda last week too. It is duly noted in my acquisition list.
6:43pm
Mike Sin:
Enjoying your show after a rough day at the beach with an insane undertow. Nice to relax to your fine selections... Especially that Ananda Shankar track.
