Favoriting The Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon: Playlist from August 27, 2015 Favoriting

Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Grand Funk  I'm Your Captain   Favoriting Closer To Home  Capitol   1970  LP  2:48:50 - 2:58:18 I did save this for last. Absolutely love every single thing about it, and have since I first heard it when I was 12. It informed my early rock life. I had a poster of Mark Farner in my room, in his red bellbottoms with his silver arm band on. PLEASE check out this ... the best clip imaginable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1UujH1v6WU  2:49:45 (Pop-up)
Mountain  Nantucket Sleighride (Excerpt)   Favoriting Mountain Live  Chrysalis  1972  LP  2:58:18 - 3:04:25 I love this Mountain Live LP. So trog-like in its fatness. Lovely. Leslie West's artistry shines big-time. Felix and that bass that makes Mel Schacher's booming GFR tone sound like its running though a LAdy Remington cordless. Sorry we went over Nick! I told him he could fade it out, but Nick Name had so much integrity that he insisted Nantucket Sleighride play to its completion. That's character!
Great Great show! Thanks so much. Best fun I've had in a while. Thank you Dave the Spazz for lending me your 3 hours. An honor, and I mean that. And playlisters and AccuJacks and Jills ... thank you for listening and for checking in. I thank you for helping me to not only have a great time - but to play some of the music I have loved from the past. What a blast to have a radio station to play them on, and an audience willing to dig it. You know really, as classic or as "common" as this music might seem, there really isn't a home for a lot of it anymore. What's left of rock radiop won't play a lot of this, so ... to me it has become underground again and endangered, to a degree, as the boomers age and their music attains nursing home status, which will transpire, and then is perceived not that differently than say, Lawrence Welk or GlennMiller in its quaintness. Remember what Daltrey sang ... hope I die before I'm old. But now he's old, and it seems he might want to hang around for a while. So, we all should then, agreed? Yes.

Thanks again and I am going to zzzzzzz. It's 3:41am on 8/29/15 as I am typing this. Still kind of zinging from what a good time I had doing this fill-in. As for The Dusty Show itself, it's in a slump. Rudderless. Without direction, or, having too much direction. It's difficult to tell. I can't see the forest for the trees as the ten-year mark approaches. I don't know if I'll be on the air when the smoke clears from the new scheduling shake-up. We will see. Enjoy the fleeting days of summer. Fall awaits ... and beyond that ... winter and the cold. I love it all. Peace dear listener. Always Remember ..... CP NYC99 22258Piaflcawiny

Before it gets too late, let me say that I had a big debate with my friends back in the day over whether the Stones' "Hot Stuff" was disco, as per the conventional wisdom, or funk, as I had it. When "Miss You" came out, and was much more obviously in the disco form, I felt vindicated, but a prophet is without honor in his own time.
