Joe McG:

@Brian: Yes! Most of them are verbals. I love that, BTW, I'm using it from now on for songs with vocals.

I am just now midway through Alistair MacLeod's short story, "The Closing Down of Summer."

Brian, the more salvage yard the better! Let the war banners of me-TAL unfurl.

Too homogenous for me. All the banners are gray on gray.

@Brian: Ha ha ha! @Tommy: Thanks for breaking my Van the Man jinx! Every time I play him, the comments board goes DEAD. But I love him.
Avatar 11:46am
βrian:

@Tommy: I was just thinking how odd it was that I liked something by Van. This is a first. Thanks, Joe.

Dean:

MacLeod was a writer from (and about) Nova Scotia, where his stories tend to take place. The stories are beautiful and painful at once. I was reminded of his work after Trouble recommended Jane Gardam. Based on that rec, I read a collection of her stories, and it occurred to me that she treated similar themes in similar ways.

Had to check that the 2015 release date for Ryley was accurate. Really liked that.

@Dean have you sampled Annie Proulx?

@Scott--it's a very good album--a keeper.

Ryley Walker was playing a 1000 year old church in Guildford last week. Guess who missed him.

Dean:

@Brian in UK: I haven't, alas. Truly, I don't often have an opportunity to read for pleasure as I have lately. I regret not being able to read (and reread) the works of Anita Brookner, which I adore, or Henry James, for that matter. But I've managed to fit in some reading lately on the bus, on an airplane, etc.

Annie won't further the illusion you're reading for pleasure, so don't worry. Oy. Great writer, though.
