Hiya, Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am pacific standard simon:

All hail Dusty the Chinchilla!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am coelacanth:

ah, good to hear George.

Hi Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am pacific standard simon:

It's funny -- years ago, I put together a couple of mix CDs of ukulele tunes downloaded from the internet, and there was a version of "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" by someone other than George -- don't recall who it was, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Therese:

  12:12am DrTerminus:

Loving this track
  12:13am PMD:

Now I want to hear Glen Campbell. Why does Paul Williams' track make me think that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am pacific standard simon:

Paul Williams, wow... brings back memories of midnight shows of Phantom Of The Paradise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am pacific standard simon:

Maybe because Campbell has got airplay with at least one Williams tune?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am pacific standard simon:

  12:27am DrTerminus:

That Wild Poppies jam was so good I had to hear it twice
Avatar 12:29am ! I X Key !:

Avatar 12:30am ! I X Key !:

Sweating mushrooms & onions is so funny now
Avatar 12:30am BadGuyZero:

Do you think the headphones have been possessed by the ghost of the squeaky chair?
Avatar 12:32am BadGuyZero:

Maybe A Sunny Day In Glasgow is printing temporary tattoos on pot leaves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am pacific standard simon:

@! I X Key ! - Making minestrone soup tomorrow. Vegetables will be sweated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am coelacanth:

Joanna still excellent...not surprisingly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am pacific standard simon:

It's a thing, Therese. The Great American Songbook is a wonderful obsession for music lovers.
Avatar 12:37am BadGuyZero:

Dusty = Cute overdose
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am coelacanth:

i miss Muuro!
  12:38am DrTerminus:

Dusty is awesome. Reminds me of a chin baby named Oscar I had.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am pacific standard simon:

Chinchilla-fur-covered headphones!

:( just kidding....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am coelacanth:

ever since Evan's Dr. John show he's everyday at wfmu. it's a good thing.
  12:44am DrTerminus:

Spent a month working to buy this chinchilla when I was 17, was with this girl Marianne, and she wanted one so bad. She ended up taking him home, gave him away, he died, she wanted to pour chinchilla dust in a cemetery garden for him so we did that. I feel awkward about this at 27.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am pacific standard simon:

Those first two Dr. John records were everyday on San Francisco "underground" FM radio when they were released. After he got an AM hit with "Right Place Wrong Time", not so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am pacific standard simon:

Process it, DrTerminus.
  12:47am DrTerminus:

I suppose you're right, pacific.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Ken From Hyde Park:

I hope next year's mascot isn't a snake. That'd be an awkward handover ceremony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am coelacanth:

the 3rd & 4th albums were great too, though; in fact "the sun, moon & herbs" may be my favorite.
...still "underground".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am coelacanth:

funny Ken!...but next year's mascot will be a cat.
  12:51am DrTerminus:

Please.. I have a cat story too.
Avatar 12:51am ! I X Key !:

Maybe it'll be an axolotl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am pacific standard simon:

Right you are, coelacanth. About Dr. John, I mean. Next year's mascot will be an octopus.
  12:52am DrTerminus:

I think I'm done with mascots.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am coelacanth:

ruh roh...
  12:53am MONEYBAG$:

I hope it's a sloth who loves jandek
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am coelacanth:

i'd vote for an octopus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am Ken From Hyde Park:

If next year's mascot is a carnivore, just make sure it's well fed before the handover and the ceremony can proceed without incident.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am coelacanth:

pssh...all sloth's love jandek.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am pacific standard simon:

  12:55am MONEYBAG$:

maybe all 3 toed sloths do, but the jury is still out for the 2 toed variety
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am coelacanth:

if it's an octopus they can feed it the runners-up before the ceremony.
  12:56am DrTerminus:

Now I would vote for a sloth, don't get me wrong.
Avatar 12:57am BadGuyZero:

I bet Vampisoul is Soul Dracula's favorite record label.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am pacific standard simon:

There could be a Japanese monster movie in that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am coelacanth:

if there's no octopus in the running i'd vote for a sloth.
- even a 2-toed sloth.

and Yeah! the Staples!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am pacific standard simon:

Avatar 1:01am Jeff:

Hey, Therese, ya DJ you.

(Sorry, just finished watching Fargo. There can be a dialect hangover.)
Avatar 1:03am Jeff:

No! Don't talk through a movie or TV show!
Avatar 1:04am BadGuyZero:

"We need to have a talk."
"About how we haven't watched 'Avengers 3'???"
Avatar 1:05am BadGuyZero:

Werewolf bar mitzvah?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am pacific standard simon:

I have a tendency to rant during the news -- which makes people complain that they can't hear the news.
Avatar 1:11am Jeff:

Accurate and affable until the DAY OF RAGE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am pacific standard simon:

I found a recording of music played on pianos found rotting out in the weather, un-tuned for decades. Un-prepared piano music.
Avatar 1:16am Jeff:

Too much posting, but I just noticed that I wrote accurate instead of avuncular, because accurate is probably the word Therese was saying as I was about to type the other a-word.

Okay, I'll try to stop now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am pacific standard simon:

Have a cup of coffee, Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am coelacanth:

simon where'd you find that recording and is it amazing , like it sounds like it could be?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am Therese:

I'd say that Kurt is accurate in addition to avuncular!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am pacific standard simon:

@coel - here:

Judge for yourself.
Avatar 1:31am BadGuyZero:

@pacific standard simon: I remember hearing or reading a story in the late 80s about how Pussy Galore's sound was based on a scratched-up Rolling Stones record one of the PG members had. Said record had been left outside where it was rained on then dried and warped by the sun.
Avatar 1:31am Clay Pigeon:

I Love that the soundbyte of the day is "The Dean Scream!" Hi Therese, this Frida sounds great. Phil Collins all over this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am Tome:

FRIDA !!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am coelacanth:

Thanks simon. i bookmarked it. i'll try to get some sound from the site tomorrow.
...that shit's right up my alley.
Avatar 1:32am BadGuyZero:

Phil Collins produced and played drums on this Frida record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am Therese:

It was a copy of Exile on Main Street, I think?
Avatar 1:36am BadGuyZero:

@Therese: That's what I heard too. But I don't know if that is factual or assumed since they covered EoMS in its entirety.
Avatar 1:37am Zod:

Patrick Crowley's drummer's kind of crappy, but it works.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am Therese:

Kneel before Clay Pigeon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am coelacanth:

Clay, are you a chinchilla?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am coelacanth:

hahaha! do it again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am coelacanth:

my synapses were messin' up, so i fired 'em.
Avatar 1:44am BadGuyZero:

Laser drums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am pacific standard simon:

Runnin' a scam!
Avatar 1:48am BadGuyZero:

Let's hope this doesn't mean that Faux Patrick's Day is coming to Jersey City.
Avatar 1:50am BadGuyZero:

Phil Collins makes 43 cents every time you play that.
Avatar 1:51am Jeff:

The cough of death, or the head or death?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am coelacanth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52am pacific standard simon:

Backroom Beaujolais
Avatar 1:54am Jeff:

Oh. Tötenköpf like death head.

So basically, what Cameron got from that pig.
Avatar 1:56am Jeff:

Kind of shouty, Cameron would probably say.

While f*$king a pig.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09am pacific standard simon:

OK, you got me at Hawkwind!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10am Alejandroool:

such fine sounds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am pacific standard simon:

I remember listening to this on a cassette while peeling down California Freeway 101 in a Dodge van toward San Jose in 1976.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am Alejandroool:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am coelacanth:

hmm, i wonder if my neighbors were sleeping...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20am coelacanth:

interesting segue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20am pacific standard simon:

Not if you don't have headphones on.
Avatar 2:25am BadGuyZero:

There's room for all manner of joint pain under the rheumatoid umbrella.

Avatar 2:31am BadGuyZero:

Isn't "Palindromic Rheumatism" a song by They Might Be Giants?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am pacific standard simon:

Want a danish?
Avatar 2:39am slugluv1313:

AMY! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am coelacanth:

i had a danish. she slipped away like a viking longboat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am pacific standard simon:

Amy Winehouse had ringworm. But it could have been worse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am coelacanth:

i'm having trouble transitioning from back to black to anything by the flamin' groovies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am pacific standard simon:

I just don't get the Flamin' Groovies adulation, beyond the Epic album, the two Buddha albums, and the first Sire album. They haven't been worth a fart in a wind tunnel since then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am pacific standard simon:

That stuff was great, though.
Avatar 2:53am ! I X Key !:

The ruling of this scientology case weirded me out so much earlier today that I fell over en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55am coelacanth:

flamin' groovies,in my asshole opinion, are and always have been mediocre. they do all those covers, and their versions are never, ever as good as,or different than- the original.... so, why bother?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am pacific standard simon:

Still got my 45 of this Richard Hell song. Can't play it, 'cause I got no record player. Thank you for playing it, Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am coelacanth:

- but my point was that Amy Winehouse makes me feel, and to go from that intense song by a woman who was so talented and with a heartbreaking story to some good-time pop music was not happening for me.
...maybe it's just me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am pacific standard simon:

@coelacanth - the two Buddha records are full of originals, and great ones at that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00am coelacanth:

i'll check 'em out simon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00am coelacanth:

Thanks Therese.
Avatar 3:00am BadGuyZero:

Thanks for getting Monday off to a fantastic start as you always do, Therese. Have a great week! See you back here next time.
