coelacanth, I may have been quicker on the World of Echo playlist but yours was funnier.

haha!

JakeGould:

That first “Shocking Blue” album is really amazing.
  12:13am
PMD:

Love it all so far. Darn it. As I need to go to bed!

Whoops! I meant to say, SECOND album. FORGIVE ME PLEASE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am

well, the first one with Mariska, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am

As I recall, Billy Beer was created at a time when collecting beer cans was quite popular.
Avatar 12:23am
BadGuyZero:

Come play with us, Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am
coelacanth:

i used to collect cans (& bottles)...'never did get billy beer. i was very casual about it.
when i moved out of my mother's apartment i took 5-600 bottles and cans to a friend's wrap around porch, lined them up and left.
someone eventually took them all.
Avatar 12:27am
BadGuyZero:

Maybe they're paying tribute to Sha Na Na and Lola Falana with their name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28am
coelacanth:

...and it's the first way -"shah-na" . (she's a friend of mine)
  12:29am
PMD:

She's the friend of my ex's sister. Is that 2 or 3 degrees of separation?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am
Ken From Hyde Park:

On your week off, Therese, you missed something here. We were all set to celebrate Shuggie Otis' birthday last Monday. Maybe the next time it comes around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am
coelacanth:

hahaha! something like that!
...now i wonder if i ever met your ex's sister...but probably not.
  12:31am
JakeGould:

Billy Carter hawked the beer, but drank PBRs in private. oldbeerads.blogspot.com...
  12:33am
PMD:

She lives in New Palz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am
coelacanth:

that's interesting. maybe that admission had something to do with the beer not selling!
  12:35am
JakeGould:

Everybody be playing “The Cure” this week. That and “Beat Happening.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am
coelacanth:

PMD i may have met her then!...but not necessarily via Shana. She and i aren't that close, and i haven't seen her much since she moved north of new paltz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am
coelacanth:

that's odd that "plastic passion" appears on a "b-sides and rarities" album. is the boys don't cry album rare? (...i kinda hope so!)
  12:43am
rw:

So... it's "shah-na" but is it "fa-lah-na" or "fa-lay-na"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am
coelacanth:

it rhymes; like "havana banana" only an "ah" sound!
Avatar 12:45am
Therese:

the Boys Don't Cry album is rare enough that we don't have it on our library! I had to take it from the Join the Dots box.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am
coelacanth:

(okay,well not quite...)
  12:45am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: The issue is—as I recall—is that “Boys Don’t Cry” was a U.S. rejiggering of the U.K. “Three Imaginary Boys” and some singles. Since “Three Imaginary Boys” has some of the wince-worthy stuff Cure fans are baffled by. So it was a pseudo compilation of sorts.
Avatar 12:45am
BadGuyZero:

@coelcanth: "Boys Don't Cry" is the U.S. version of "Three Imaginary Boys" with an altered tracklist. "Plastic Passion" isn't on "Three Imaginary Boys."
Avatar 12:45am
BadGuyZero:

JakeGould types faster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am
coelacanth:

i know; i have both. but Thank you!
i guess when i die i'll leave my boys don't cry album to wfmu.
  12:50am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: You meant to say, “i know; i have both. *sips tea, smokes clove cigarette*”
  12:50am
JakeGould:

Yay for Lush!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am
coelacanth:

Jake i think there's just 1 wince-worthy track on 3 i.b. and their cover of foxy lady is fantastic! so is "meat hook",in my opinion.
...and yes, that's what i meant!
  12:53am
JakeGould:

“Foxy Lady” is not what “The Cure” is about. *slams copy of Camus’ “The Stranger” on the coffee table*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am
coelacanth:

Hahahaha!

*head low,almost inaudibly*: "i know."
  1:02am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Your share at the patchouli CSA is at risk now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am
coelacanth:

hem, excuse me Jake but i'm the head chairperson of the patchouli csa so, i don't think so!
  1:23am
sara:

it's kind of crazy and maybe a little sad how she ended up being used as a tea party shill. but that's her opinion it seems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am
coelacanth:

i didn't know that sara. it's sad; but then i'm sure there are many people i respect from a musical perspective that i'd consider idiots on political,socio-political,environmental, etc. issues.
on one hand i'm glad i usually don't know; on the other i'd sooner steal than buy music from people that i think are part of the problem!
  1:36am
sara:

well a lot of years did pass since the vu days she had a bunch of kids and grandkids and maybe a phone company job. don't know what else she went through.
  1:40am
JakeGould:

@sara: The more I read and hear and learn about anyone who creates anything the more I am of the opinion that honestly there are 100% no saints out there creating anything and some aspect of their off-stage persona might be wretched. Which is to say: I appreciate the art.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am
brendanswfmuaccount:

I actually saw Joanna Newsom tonight in Boston. Great performance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am
coelacanth:

yes; and it's not like she was the voice of velvet underground.
...i find particularly interesting a quote i just read:"I have come to believe (not just wonder) that Obama's plan is to destroy America from within".
maybe, maybe not; but that's basically how i feel about both bushes and reagan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am

For every Pete Seeger, there's a Ted Nugent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am
brendanswfmuaccount:

It was great. She did a little over an hour and then three one song encores (don't get me started). She did a lot from the new record. I wish she had more time for the "hits" but you can only play so much in 90 minutes when half your songs clock in at eight minutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am
coelacanth:

exactly egal.
  1:59am
sara:

i like after hours a lot too, that's why i looked into what she was up too. i still like how she played drums, i guess it just feels like she might be easily duped, or not everyone is a band leader, we all have our weaknesses in the end

BadGuyZero:

A few days ago while making breakfast I accidentally dropped something I was about to put it in a heated skillet. I tried to catch it and in doing so one of my fingers made contact with the skillet. Now I have a nice brand/scar running about 1/4 the length of my finger on the knuckle side.
  2:26am
JakeGould:

I used to get paper cuts all the time. Worked in a college bookstore and then at a small book publisher. Constant paper cuts. Ever used those pasty glue tape dispensers with the dirty water? Anyway, that’s why I always carry band aids in my wallet: PTSD from paper cuts.
  2:36am
sara:

paper cuts are the worst
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am
coelacanth:

BGZ that's the kind of thing i do. my reflexes are quick but still somehow dysfunctional.
  2:59am
JakeGould:

If anyone here meets me in person and has a minor cut, hit me up for a band aid.
  3:00am
sara:

hope the scar fades too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01am
coelacanth:

Thanks Therese!
