I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

w00t! First Vertigo of 2016! Evening, Mayuko and all!
Avatar 5:00pm Dave B:

what a nice start!
Avatar 5:03pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, james and Dave B!!!
  5:05pm Listener142985:

Happy new year, M. Really enjoying the school chant.
Avatar 5:07pm Mayuko:

Happy new year to you too, Listener142985! Buddhist monks are often pretty great musicians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I think my old grand pappy had a saying: "Neither a bower nor a lender be." That can be my new year's resolution. Hi, everybody!
Avatar 5:14pm Jesse K:

Hi Mayuko! Lovely Mulberry tree
  5:15pm Listener142985:

Very much like your Shaker art today. If you have not made the trip to Hancock Shaker Village, it is a beautiful place. And they do a baby animals event in spring. Clean lines, baby lambs. You really can't beat it.
Avatar 5:19pm Mayuko:

Thank you for tuning in, Ken! I think bower is a good thing to be unless that means to be Jamie Bower. I had a hard time finding good bower images on google because of him. I blame him.
Avatar 5:22pm Mayuko:

Jesse!! Welcome on board!!! Listener142985, I didn't know about Shaker art until I stumbled upon Hannah Cohoon's art - this picture is one of hers - I'd love to know more and visit that village! They make beautiful furniture and stuff, right? Also very interesting concept that their name came from "shake" (like dancing, I suppose?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Gary:

Avatar 5:25pm Mayuko:

Gary! Hello!!!
Avatar 5:28pm Dave B:

I think it's shaking more like "convulsions" than KC & The Sunshine Band.
  5:32pm Listener142985:

They made beautiful things, from wooden boxes to barns, with an emphasis on elegance and simple lines. Their aesthetic never goes out of style, but they kind of doomed themselves with that celibacy thing. Oh well.
Avatar 5:33pm Mayuko:

Convulsions is more like a definition of dance in Play Vertigo context than Earth Wind & Fire too, Dave B.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Charlie:

Hello -- happy to be able to listen 'live' for a little while :)
Avatar 5:39pm Mayuko:

Charlie!! Welcome on board!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Charlie:

You pilot a nice boat / maintain a nice arbor / ring a nice bell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm JtotheK:

hi everyone! enjoying the program today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Charlie:

This (Hiragi Fukuda) is lovely.
Avatar 5:50pm Mayuko:

Thank you, Charlie!!! Maybe I can steal one of those or all to be the description for my show which I need to write asap, haha.
Avatar 5:50pm Mayuko:

Thanks for tuning in, JtotheK! Happy to hear you're enjoying it!
Avatar 5:54pm Mayuko:

I think Fukuda san was trying to make a musical pun for Suicide (assuming from the sound the album title...) Although not sure if that works for native English speakers: Suicide/Seaside.
Avatar 5:57pm Dave B:

switching over to mobile!
  6:03pm Dave B:

So it's like hearing Christmas music for the past month everywhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Carmichael:

Jeez, I forgot you were on, Mayuko! The new webpage makes it difficult on DrumSum radio ...
  6:12pm Dean:

Nuts, sorry I missed the Bernard Fort. His 12 haiku and L'Impatience des limites are marvelous.
Avatar 6:14pm Polyus:

Hello and Happy New Year Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Carmichael:

As an Irishman, here is what I associate with "bower": www.irishmusicdaily.com...
Avatar 6:17pm northguineahills:

Don't worry Carmichael, I'm sleeping in 3.5 hour shifts (missed the first hour of the show). The missus gets back tomorrow, so I have to start acting civilized again. New Happiness to everyone!
Avatar 6:18pm northguineahills:

For me, a bower first conjures up this image.... en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 6:21pm Mayuko:

Exactly, Dave B! Thanks for tuning in, Carmichael! It is a bit sad that with new website it's hard to find us, but glad you made it here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm steve:

hey Mayuko and friends
Avatar 6:22pm Mayuko:

Happy new year and thanks for tuning in, Polyus, Dean & northguineahills!!
Avatar 6:25pm Mayuko:

ha, it's a good thing that I can learn all these associations and cultural references behind the word "Bower". Thank you all for helping me improve my English, haha.
Avatar 6:25pm Mayuko:

Hi steve!! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm steve:

i was recently thinking of emailing station manager ken to explain how the new home page makes it harder to find live shows on the streams. now i think i will. he seems to appreciate listener feedback on pretty much anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm steve:

nice! didn't see this one coming
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Carmichael:

Yes. They did a live album recorded in Tokyo that, naturally, contains this song.
Avatar 6:28pm northguineahills:

Astral Social Club followed by 10cc, genius!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Carmichael:

SM Ken did mention that eventually DrumSum will have it's own website. Likely the same for Ichiban, etc ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Webhamster Henry:

Happy New Year, Vertigo Players!
Avatar 6:36pm Mayuko:

Love that 10cc song so so much (just like everybody does!) Happy new year, Webhamster Henry!!
  6:39pm David in Cleveland:

How are you? Sorry I got to the party late. Nice mix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm listener james from westwood:

Mmmmm ... "Neon Lights."
Avatar 6:42pm Mayuko:

Thanks for tuning in, David, あけましておめでとう to you too!! Hope you caught the killerest track of today's show which was Joe Meek.
  6:48pm David in Cleveland:

Yes, I came in during 10CC.
I can still remember hearing "The
Things We Do for Love" for the
first time. You have an eclectic
taste for music, Mayuko chan. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Webhamster Henry:

Can't beat Kraftwerk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm melinda:

good evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm steve:

yay senor coconut!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm listener james from westwood:

That whole Kraftwerk disc is a treat. Played a cassette of it I snagged in college near to death and haunted record shops for a CD release.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Gary:

Thank you, Mayuko ... have a great night!
  6:55pm Dave B:

Constructive criticism is good!

Have a great week people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks a ton, Mayuko!
Avatar 6:57pm northguineahills:

Thannkkkkssss, Mayuko!
Avatar 6:59pm Mayuko:

Sorry to talk over the coconut, steve!! I will play it eventually anyway, had a blast at their show in Tokyo years ago!
Avatar 6:59pm Mayuko:

Thank you all for listening! See you next week!
  6:59pm David in Cleveland:

Folks, if you're awake at 1am ESTATE
check out "The Molotov Cocktail Hour"
on KXLU Los Angeles.. extremely
eclectic, ecotica, surf rock, jazz, SE Asia,
with the funniest dee jays I ever heard.
Oyasumi, people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm fred:

Wow, a shaker mention on this show's playlist! The only thing I know about them is that they had a leader called Ann Lee, and I know that from an art video that had Sonic Youth as a soundtrack (that was years ago, and I don't remember the name of the artist)
Coincidentally or not, my profile picture is another Ann Lee, Mircea Cantor's take on an art project involving copyright that I think took it beyond its original intent, rightfully
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm fred:

The place where I took it from is gone, but there's another one which has the full picture here: www.instagram.com...
That seaside track was great, BTW
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm fred:

"Bleu à Lèvres" is kinda tough: "Rouge à lèvres" means lipstick, with "rouge" meaning red and "lèvres" meaning "lips". "Bleu" means "blue" so this could be a pun about a corpse's blue lips, then again it could be about girls with blue lipstick, and/or both
Avatar 12:02pm Mayuko:

Interesting, I saw M/M Paris Ann Lee posters long time ago, but didn't quite understand the concept then. I just red about it and now I see. I like that version of Ann Lee on your prof pic much better than that initial(?) one that's more Japanese manga-ish Ann Lee.
