I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Good (if sad, Bowie-less) Monday, Mayuko and all!

Mayuko:

Good evening james, I still don't get the sense of reality that Bowie has left us.

listener james from westwood:

I went to bed last night just as the first tweets were coming in. I therefore dreamed about college, where I first really gave Bowie a close listen, courtesy of a roommate w/ a deep record collection. Was sad to wake up and have it confirmed.

james, I saw the news late last night too, and I thought it could be a hoax. It feels very strange now.

Hello Polyus, thanks for tuning in! And Listener142985, welcome on board! No problem, Dave B - my slot was 2am so you would've been too tired to stay anyway, haha. & It's archived!

Hi, Mayuko and Vertigists. I faded out early in your slot over the weekend. Then last night I was wide awake during Therese's show as the news unfolded.

I so prefer bovine sounds to Bowie right about now. RIP and all that but heard him all day. You go, girl! Do not question your choices just because you are not going with, ahem, the herd.

haha! well it's always healthy to have an alternative, no matter how good the mainstream is.

Bebey's always a good alternative!

My woodpecker story is that I have an old tree stump in my back yard. Several times a week, a woodpecker (possibly the same one) hacks away at it searching for grubs. In a few years, the stump is going to be a mere pile of wood chips. Circle of life and all that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm
Charlie:

I like woodpeckers.
Avatar 6:16pm
Mayuko:

I'm glad at least your woodpecker is not making your house into chips, Ken! I saw that it's a problem for some people. It's pretty fun that woodpeckers are like neighbors to us in New York. Never happened in Tokyo to hear them like here. I love their sound!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
Charlie:

Speaking of percussion, an old friend of mine from college has an album coming out soon made up of sounds sampled from playing the Eiffel Tower as a percussion instrument. www.innova.mu...
It's a follow-up to his Bridge Music project, of sounds sampled from the Mid-Hudson bridge.

Haha, Charlie, your friend really is like a woodpecker. I heard they drum on metal roofs and stuff too. I'll check that out! the cover looks pretty funny.

he looks like a big spider on the cover
Avatar 6:35pm

I need to check that dry cleaner out too. The dry cleaners in the basement of my apartment don't create much attractive sound, but his might have.

Funny coincidence. The same week I sent Ken my snowpile picture, he also posted the picture of Putin riding the woodpecker. www.wfmu.org...

Not sure about the authenticity of that Putin pic... So here's a toad hitching a ride on a goldfish:

Great show again, Mayuko. Yoshio Machida was new to me and really great. It might be obvious, but I think Four Organs is best experienced live. Do so if you haven't yet. And that woodpecker pic is so great! Dynamic in 2D, so many lessons there...
Avatar 12:27am
Mayuko:

Thanks fred! I haven't heard it live yet, I'd love to! There gotta be a chance to do so in NYC, I hope.
