Howdy, all! Is the stream on or is D:O on? I see The Psychedelic Aliens/"We;re Laughing" listed on iTunes, but I don't know Bley well enough to know if I'm hearing him.

Jesus, thank you, @ljfw! In my haste to get us going, I neglected to press the "start" button. Ok, then. Sorry folks!

doctorjazz:

Did get to listen to some of the Bley on John Allen's show as well, nice (did the whole show but I just caught the last hour).

Not a prob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am
northguineahills:

That's why the Start button needs to be big, red and shiny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am
Jeff Golick:

No big enough, apparently, @ngh. Hi there!
Greetings, too, to you, @AndrewC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am
AndrewC.:

Hi Jeff. Seconding the recommendation to listen to John Allen today. 3 hours, a really interesting spectrum of Bley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am
Jeff Golick:

Here's a link to the show John Allen did this morning: wfmu.org... Looks wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am

Thanks, @AndrewC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am

@ngh: We'll leave Boulez for others to tackle.

Hey, @Polyus! I believe this is from the single -- not sure if it's different from the LP version, actually.
Avatar 10:56am

Yes, the early single has a different (better!) performance than the album.

This track is really fucking long but it's really fucking cool so it's totally fucking fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am
Jeff Golick:

Saw that, too, Dean. Leaving others to offer more knowledgeable encomiums.
Avatar 11:47am
βrian:

My first reaction was: Again? I thought he'd died decades ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am
Jeff Golick:

Awesome, @Mark R. Their previous was even longer; equally fucking fine.
  11:49am
Dean:

Simply put, he was to 20th century classical music (conducting, composing, performance) what Lemmy was to metal. I'll have to listen solemnly tonight to the piano sonatas, maybe one of the orchestral works, his Stravinsky. Damn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am
Jeff Golick:

Apparently, the LP version of this Necks performance ends with a locked groove.
Avatar 11:52am
βrian:

Oh my, then the next platter on the stack will never drop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
Amanda:

This is excellent
Avatar 11:57am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

If I got it right (?) - Boulez was involved w/ the opening of the Centre Georges Pompidou - which seems symbolic enuff of his place in Modern Music & Culture. He championed Zappa's orchestral works - altho' I read Zappa wasn't 100% enthused about his conducting of them...awwwkward...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am

Hey, @Amanda! Folks, won't you join her in the next room?
