Hello Therese and everyone, I had an evening nap today after a night of no sleep, so I'm up past my usual bed time and get to listen to this show live. :)

Avatar 12:19am Cliff:

Also, loved that E.L.O. song, and I think it's the first time I've ever heard it played on this station ;)

Looking forward to the next holiday, does anyone think the idea of seeing House of Pain in Boston on St. Patrick's Day might not go well?

Or even un-famous ones, like Martin Van Buren and John Tyler. I dunno.

MONEYBAG$, a ton of drunken people listening to Irish hip-hop on our people's favorite holiday of the year, what could possibly go wrong? I don't see the problem.

@BadGuyZero: Everything is cold and I had so little to do thanks to it I decided to redo my kitchen sink piping. Other than one hilarious miscalculation when I used a hacksaw, everything looks great!
  12:33am tullius:

Is it wrong to say Therese's dulcet tones should narrate any dramatic audio presentation of the Kama Sutra? I hope not.
  12:34am Duane:

Very beautiful Alice track!!!! Thank you Therese. xo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am Matt from Springfield:

Therese can narrate anything! And co-host anything!

...though, I would insist on "Kama Sutra + Shuggie Otis Pling!" in any such narration...
  12:35am sugarwolf:

I actually went out this weekend and managed not to freeze to death so that's a plus.
Avatar 12:37am BadGuyZero:

I'm afraid if I go outside I'll catch Zika virus. It's like the Ebola scare of 2014 all over again.

  12:41am JakeGould:

@sugarwolf: Dudes in NYC were walking around in… BOATSHOES WITHOUT SOCKS!!!! What is the damage there!!!!
Avatar 12:42am egal:

Bubonic plague was a must have.
  12:42am JakeGould:

@BadGuyZero: Now you deserve a HUGE “No Prize” for that one. HUGE! Bravo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am Alejandroool:

wooo fugazi! thx Therese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: I've known many people over the years who can wear hysterically light clothing in cold weather.

Once on a ski trip, one such friend when downhill skiing the last day wearing shorts and his trench coat, open. While another guy got frostbite on his hand because his expensive Gore-Tex glove was wet. Boggles the mind..
Avatar 12:44am Cliff:

I'm already going stir-crazy from being trapped inside all weekend. Hopefully my new cable modem arrives today, then I'll try to brave the outdoors to go the cable company to return my box and old modem. I'm not saving much money by cutting the cord on basic cable (they said they don't have any "packages" they could offer me that would save me money on internet access only, bleh), but at least I'll be able to save the monthly $10 modem rental fee.

sugarwolf: I used to know a guy in college who was from Florida, he wore shorts year-round, even if it was below 0, and only bothered to wear sneakers instead of sandals when there was more than a dusting of snow on the ground.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am Alejandroool:

sugarwolf - someone told me yesterday someone went on the streetcar with a SLEEVELESS shirt yesterday. I don't get it..(windchill -8F)
  12:46am JakeGould:

@MattfromSpringfield: Fair enough. But in NYC there is this stupid men’s clothing trend of high-water-ish pants with boatshoes and no socks. And people are just wearing it all the time. It’s like that Simpson’s episode where Marge wore that Chanel Jackie-O outfit all of the time. Enough people!
Avatar 12:46am Cliff:

And I had a college friend who knew this guy from Alaska who also wore shorts year-round, and would scoff at anyone who ever complained about the weather in Upstate NY.
  12:47am KP:

Wild Nothing is really something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: Those damn hipsters fault! Sloppy clothing is becoming more rampant in general, but those boatshoes in winter?! I'd spray them with a hose, if the water wasn't already frozen!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am Matt from Springfield:

How bout snow up there? In VA we just got a dusting over the last couple hours.
Avatar 12:49am egal:

You'll have to rip the topsiders from my frozen feet.
Avatar 12:50am Cliff:

Sometimes I think fashion trends are just disguised forms of sadomasochism.
  12:51am Piles:

Whatever happened to mumps?
  12:51am sugarwolf:

I had on so many layers and everything except my eyes and nose were covered and those were sooo cold so I can't imagine going around in bare legs or toes or whatever....
Avatar 12:51am BadGuyZero:

I can handle the cooler temperatures fine with a thin layer of clothing. Now if it's windy that's a whole different matter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Tome:

Love this number !
  12:51am KP:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Tome:

it's like get your ya yas out time ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Alejandroool:

oh Pop. 1280 is playing here very soon
  12:55am JakeGould:

@sugarwolf: You’re normal and that’s good.
Avatar 12:59am Cliff:

sugarwolf, everyone here in Syracuse dresses like you outside with lots of layers on, and none of this boatshoes-with-no-socks nonsense. I guess that makes us practical but not fashionable.
Avatar 1:00am BadGuyZero:

New York City's alright if you like boat shoes.
  1:01am JakeGould:

@BadGuyZero: Wonder when one of these links will ask where my pledge pin is on my uniform.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Matt from Springfield:

A Ppppledge Ppin!!?!

Say, we're about a month away from Pledge Time ourselves, aren't we!
Avatar 1:04am Cliff:

According to Wikipedia, "It's important to note that boat shoes do not last as regular shoes will, as they are designed to grip deck, and are thus soft and pliable. Using boat shoes on rough, graveled surfaces will wear them out at a very accelerated speed."

So I guess it's a form of conspicuous consumption where the wearer is signaling that they can walk all around NYC and still afford to buy a new pair of boat shoes whenever the F they want to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am Matt from Springfield:

And for the record, I don't believe "GoatBoy" was ever "popular" on SNL, most thought that bit was gross and/or weird. Though I was a rare fan. (Note: I'm also a fan of Brian Fellows, Mr. Peepers, Dog Show, and other super strange classics from that period of SNL).
Avatar 1:07am Cliff:

And now that I think about it, I think I did once observe a few hipster guys wearing boat shoes with no socks while in a coffee shop. But this was during the summer, the one season of the year here where there is no threat of getting frostbite.
  1:09am KP:

Therese, you should come down to KGB. You have the presence
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am Alejandroool:

here in Toronto we also have plenty of boat shoes in the summertime... thankfully I haven't seen that in February though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am Matt from Springfield:

YES! Kate McKinnon is a sleeper hit in impressions these last few seasons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am Andrew Waterloo:

We have students in Waterloo, so definitely shorts in winter, I'm usually repulsed before noticing the shoes which are likely flip flops.
  1:18am JakeGould:

Ooo… “Tones on Tail”
  1:19am JakeGould:

I used to live in this one part of Brooklyn that has psychotically been gentrified. The one year that was a turning point was when I saw dude-bro finance guys in shorts and flip flops at 3:00am yelling at the deli guy to make them burgers. Nuts.
  1:21am billybumpus:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am Matt from Springfield:

Wow, this is Tones On Tail!

GO! (ya-ya ya-ya ya-ya ya ya ya...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am Andrew Waterloo:

I saw a guy in a winter jacket, jeans, toque, and then barefeet and flipflops a couple weeks ago.
Avatar 1:24am Cliff:

JakeGould, I wonder what kinds and quantities of recreational substances they had in their systems at the time. Being finance dude-bros I assume they can afford plenty of the good drugs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Matt from Springfield:

Hey! Another track from Lou, John and Nico - what I call "VU Lite".
  1:32am JakeGould:

A few nights back Stashu said one could hula-hoop to any song. Welp, I smell a marathon contest… Hula-hoop to “Black Angel’s Death Song.”
Avatar 1:35am Cliff:

I think with precisely the right amount of alcohol in your system, you could pull it off. (Relevant XKCD: xkcd.com... )

  1:54am P-90:

Just uncloaking to say "Hi and great playlist tonight, Therese," and to wish a Magnificent St. Skeletor's Day to all!
Avatar 2:01am BadGuyZero:

Nicely done, Therese!
  2:05am rw:

Ha! I paid $80 to somebody once to replace a blown fuse. I felt really stupid. Goes to prove that Therese is much smarter than I am.
  2:06am P-90:

Killer old-fashioned Blues-Rock slide guitar, almost nobody even tries this any more, especially with the organ and the whole schmear...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am Therese:

I don't know about that- maybe more stubborn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am Matt from Springfield:

Crunchy jam...

Hey P-90! I agree w/ the organ and slide guitar interplay, really diggin' this song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am Matt from Springfield:

...and Happy St. Skeletor's to you too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am Matt from Springfield:

BWHOAA! France Gall goes Allemagne! This is her early 70s "Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand"!!
  2:09am JakeGould:

@Therese: I like stubborn! I wrecked and rebuilt my kitchen drain today… And I screwed up ONE thing so back to the shop I go!
  2:09am rw:

Therese, according to my ex-wife I'm sure I've got you beat in the stubbornness department.

This France Gall track is pretty great.
  2:11am P-90:

I *heart* circuit breakers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12am Matt from Springfield:

Miscued ELO! Woo hoo!
Avatar 2:14am Cliff:

They're all dedicated radio professionals here, and we love them for it. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am Matt from Springfield:

I was first introduced to this song through a VW commercial around 2000, the one with the downcast office "everyman" who works day-in day-out, and gets inspired seeing a Volkswagen. Because of the visuals, I thought they were singing "Mr. Blues Guy"..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am Matt from Springfield:

@Cliff: Absolutely, and the imperfections are what make it fun! And REAL! ;)
Avatar 2:18am Cliff:

Matt from Spingfield: 'scuse me while I kiss this guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am Matt from Springfield:

@Cliff: There's a bathroom on the right...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am Matt from Springfield:

Or, @BGZ: Is it "koo-zee"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 2:22am Cliff:

No PDA allowed around here? Hmph.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am Matt from Springfield:

Quite a few ELO offspring in the playlist tonight.
Avatar 2:25am Cliff:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30am Matt from Springfield:

NO NO no no noooooo! Not Reagan!!!
Avatar 2:31am BadGuyZero:

Ronald Raven?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am Matt from Springfield:

Yes, indeed faire Lady.

(CCR - "Bad Moon Rising" - a great song in its own right if you haven't heard. Plus a great Mondegreen in it!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Matt from Springfield:

From Helen Gahagan / To...Ronald Raven?!
Avatar 2:32am Cliff:

Aha, "Bad Moon Rising". That's funny, I never knew anyone misheard it that way :)
Avatar 2:33am Cliff:

Matt from Springfield: Beat me by just a second to post the answer! My typing skills aren't what they used to be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am Matt from Springfield:

I saw John Fogerty at Wolf Trap last summer - he sang that, and I'm pretty sure he really DID sing that in at least one chorus! :)
Incidentally, John F. is still KICKASS! Definitely see him live if you can!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34am Matt from Springfield:

"Golden State Psychedelia" - ahhhh yes yes yes yes...
  2:35am Lady Mondegreen:

Jimi and Fogerty both used to sing those that way in live performances, the audiences loved it.
Avatar 2:36am Cliff:

And I was worried that I'd inadvertently made a gay come-on to a fellow WFMU listener (not that there's anything wrong with that), and they got a little too weirded-out by it :D

Lady Mondegreen: Yep, just read that in the wiki article on "Purple Haze", Jimi would sing it while pointing to Mitch Mitchell, heheh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41am Matt from Springfield:

Ha, excellent of Jimi and Fogerty! :)
@Cliff: No worries - we all learned something and had gobs of fun while doing it! And listened to Therese's fine program - everyone wins! :D
Avatar 2:44am BadGuyZero:

I used to think Paul Stanley sang "I like candy corn and she's got cancer" in KISS's "C'mon And Love Me." I thought about how sad it was that the girl had cancer but that it was nice that he had his sugar addiction to help him cope with the situation. Eventually I figured out that he was singing "I'm a capricorn and she's a cancer."
Avatar 2:48am Cliff:

Ok, I'm logging off for the night....Thanks Therese, this is my first time listening to your show and it was great, now I'm going to have to look up some past ones on the archives! Good night everybody. :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51am Matt from Springfield:

Dig in and good night Cliff!

@BGZ: I'm sure other kids thought the same. (Particularly after dressing up like a KISS member for Halloween and getting candy corn in their bag).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Therese. Did you know that the temperature is inversely proportional to the amount that my fingers' skin is splitting? When the temperature drops, the splitting rises. Dang, it hurts to type!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55am Alejandroool:

Avatar 2:57am BadGuyZero:

Fantastic show, Therese! Have a great week, everyone. See you back here next time.

Happy St. Skeletor's Day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am Matt from Springfield:
