Matt, i have "issues" with the (over)production on about 1/3 the ATMP album; yet even so it's one of my favorite albums of all time!

Yep, the last couple of years, at least, it's taken a couple of extra days to achieve the goal.

It's an excellent album coela! Phil Spector has over-produced parts of his output in every era, but the ATMP songs are so great to begin with! And the heavy-production does work out for some of them.

@steve: Typically we end up a few thousand short at the Marathon's end, but early in the next week we cross the line. A few years ago we did make it during the Grand Finale, and that was the first time in a long time.

@fleep: Ken once had a webpage about major donations, should one arrive. It prioritized about $250k on the building physical condition, other expenses and possible grand plans for "surplus" cash. I'd like to do the same thing, and make sure the Marathon still goes on as usual to fund day-to-day operations here.

Listener Robert:

As I mentioned in the other thread, it occurred to me a couple days ago that had I been in charge 30 yrs. ago, I'd've been a total chicken about $, taking care of what seemed to be obvious necessities, and WFMU would never have grown into the enterprise it is, and probably would've disappeared by now. Auricle's always been on the edge with what they seemingly couldn't afford, and you see the results: a glorious outlet of 2 regular stations, 1 xltr, 1 on-channel booster, not just 1 but several streams, archiving, the FMA, outreach to other startups & patch-ups, a performance space...and some physical plant that's been advertised as in need of repair for some time. It's risky, but the risks have paid off in the past.
  12:32am
Listener Robert:

And now how'm I going to get to sleep?

YLT added the lyrics: "the drummer of Rush writes all the words, that's why the songs sound like drums, that's why the songs sound so dumb"

everywhere I've worked has had a plethora Ians and a gaggle of Johns, not a single Matt though
Avatar 12:54am

FMU also has a herd of Jeff (the plural of Jeff is Jeff).
Avatar 12:54am
Caryn:

@Matt: that's what I do. I think I may have managed to narrow down my choices almost to the finals, but there's 5-6 shows where I need to double-check things. There's plenty of almost-rans, which I'll then hope are available as warehouse items next year.
  12:55am
JakeGould:

FWIW, WFMU has some solid Matts. I've known more than a few crappy Matts in my life so this gives me more faith in Matts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am
Andrew Waterloo:

I'm usually the only Andrew at work. There is an Andrew in my building, my ex married an Andrew on my birthday, the guy who bullied me in highschool was named Andrew, and now there's another Andrew in Waterloo lurking in WFMU land. There have been others, but the story doesn't need to be too long.
  12:56am

Gaggle of Johns... I like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am
Andrew Waterloo:

I haven't done anything with choosing premiums this year. It will be an adventure though.
Avatar 12:57am
Matt from Springfield:

So many almost-rans! I think it takes 3 years to be released from the Prize Warehouse, I saw 2013 premiums this year.

@Raika: Any younger Millennials at your workplace? There should be a plethora of Matts in that age bracket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am

I did far less well on the prizes this year than I did last year, and I found that I didn't care. The Kool-Aid is muy delicioso.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am

Workplaces need more young people. It seems we spend a lot of time bitching about millennials while forgetting they're juniors
  1:02am

Oh... great (to me at least) mystery prize story. One day I was volunteering at the station over the Summer last year and my job for like the first hour of the day was to figure out how to wrap and pack this MASSIVE 10LP Merzbow box set prize!

The best part is Scott or Joe called the guy who won it to make sure he wanted it, and he said he'd never heard of Merzbow but did some experimental music himself and so yeah he wanted it.

Clarence Carter lays it on!
This may be his best song!

i did download a few podcasts recently when i was going to work where there was no internet or radio; then i ended up not working there again so i still haven't heard them.
...there's live and there's archives; then there's my own collection and my own stuff; and there's, ehem, those other! internet sources...i need more years to play with!

Been so caught up in the marathon today that I was unaware of a pending snowstorm...ugh

Clarence Carter! "road of Love" is also spectacular!

there's WFMU, podcasts, and all the stuff I buy because of FMU and podcasts, the FMA, and all the stuff I already have. My mp3 collection is spectacular on shuffle though.

I wish there was a snowstorm here. Bainbridge Island is north of Montreal, but we got no snow this year.

Hey Therese! Comin' down off Hoof N' Mouth and Robin Gibb is just the trick!
Avatar 1:38am
Matt from Springfield:

Have to take a listen to "Road of Love", then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am

It looks like we're getting snow here, but I figured we'd get one more storm after it all melted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am

Thanks, Matt. And let me say again- your Badfinger was AWESOME!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am

...speaking of too much information!
...i find myself "reviewing" music. there's only a half dozen or so new things i've got that i've listened to repeatedly.
i don't like that aspect of so much wealth. i don't know albums like i used to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am

@Matt: just noticed your old comment. Yep, Mats is a singular.

I think I won about the same amount of prizes this year as last, but with more pledges. Got 2 grand prizes and generally excellent stuff, so I'm really looking forward to the mailing sometime in August/September.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am

The only things you can't get on the archives are Yo La Tengo shows, and shows where the DJ has an FCC-offensive meltdown.

WFMU's ustream account, vimeo account or YT channel will have the Marathon. Possibly all of them will have it at some point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59am

Thanks simon and Caryn. how do find that though? via the blog?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am

Truth is, I haven't understood anything out of Bowie's mouth since Heroes. Crucify me for that if you like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am

i forget now, as i was glued to wfmu for a week, who played this back-to-back with "black star" by Elvis Presley.
that was interesting.
Avatar 2:02am
Caryn:

@coelacanth: I think Hearty's 2nd show during the Marathon had a link to one of his performances on the vimeo account, so you can find the account that way easily, the ustream account can be accessed through the playlist of any show that had a video stream this Marathon, like SUW, 7SD or Pat Byrne. And with YT just go there and type in the search WFMU (and maybe Marathon).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am
pacific standard simon:

@coelacanth - it will be on the front page of the website. Trust me, it helps the station.
Avatar 2:04am

But yeah, as pss said, the main page will have a link to it sometime during the next week.
