Avatar 2:39pm geezerette:

Never heard this Chuck Berry song before. National treasure.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm doctorjazz:

Have to get that Dylan set, some amazing things I've heard all over FMU land.

Avatar 2:47pm Wilson K:

Damn homie this shit makes the day go by easier
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm drr:

Thought this Gene Pitney was Swamp Dogg.
Avatar 2:49pm Wilson K:

As anxiously as I'm anticipating the Hag tribute set, I don't want this to stop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Matt F:

drr, good call! Was trying to place the resemblance and my brain wouldn't allow it.
Avatar 2:56pm Wilson K:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@drr: Understandable, as Swamp Dogg co-wrote and co-produced it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Gaylord Fields:

And Gene Pitmey is straight up doing Swamp Dogg in his delivery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Matt F:

Wow! Didn't look at the songwriter credit, but there it is! Thx Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Gaylord Fields:

My pleasure, Matt! I'm all about Pitney (or "Pitmey," as I've typo'd it above).
  3:03pm Nate K:

I grew up thinking country music sucked, then, luckily, I heard Merle Haggard.
  3:08pm eric:

where can I read that stuff about Merle?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Melissa Jean:

loved seeing Merle w/Dylan at the Orpheum in 2005
Avatar 3:10pm geezerette:

Poor Willie Nelson.
Poor us,all our daddies are leaving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Matt F:

If yer on the dreaded FB: www.facebook.com...
  3:14pm Nate K:

That quote about "Okie" was interesting. Merle seemed to constantly be questioning his own politics and forcing himself to consider new viewpoints, even late in life. Not something one necessarily expects from an aging country singer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Gaylord Fields:

More honorable than ossifying into any doctrinare stance, Haggard was a questioner, an intellectualy curious critical thinker — who was never afraid to say "i'm wrong" (even if he would later follow up with "When I said I was wrong, I was wrong then").
  3:20pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

"Prison Band" is one of my favorites in a long list of Hag favorites. Good call, but really, how could you go wrong with that catalog? Throw a dart, pick a winner.
  3:20pm Doug Schulkind:

In case you need more Merle tomorrow, Uncle Michael will be spinning three hours of the maestro on Hinky Dinky Time. That'll be right here on the Drummer Stream, beginning at noon ET.
Avatar 3:22pm ndbob:

nice Haggard tribute here Matt - sounds great Doug!
  3:27pm rhudak:

Wow...never listened to Jimmie back to back with Merle - you can actually hear the influence . This is great Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Uncle Michael:

Great set Matt.

I'm doing three hours of Merle tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Melissa Jean:

yeah, I wanna read that NYer article. I'm a nerd and often print them out. So long they're more pleasant to read that way sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Uncle Michael:

I'm caught in a loop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Matt F:

I've Given Up on updating the playlist for now! You gotta listen the old fashioned way for the rest of the show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Mike East:

I'm outta the loop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm doctorjazz:

Is this the show or the stream?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Uncle Michael:

There was some Janis Ian(?) track that got caught in a loop. I was referring to that. I can't read, anyhow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Gaylord Fields:

"Lotus Blossom": Best thinly disguised song about marijuana ever!
Avatar 3:56pm ndbob:

excellent show Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Matt F:

Thanks everybody! Will post the rest of the playlist later today once the computer overlords start cooperating again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm doctorjazz:

great show, technical glitches and all!
Avatar 4:00pm geezerette:

Lotus blossom sounded very much like Town without Pity.
It's drizzling here in L.A.,perfect mood.
Thanks Matt for an elegant show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Gaylord Fields:

@geezerette: All roads lead to Gene Pitney!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Stanley:
