LM: As an alternative I would like to vote for all
wild octopuses speaking strange tongues, wearing a
technicolor dream coat like myself, listening to Sun Ra
and creating outer space music and jazz operas
with vocals by Meredith Monk and interludes by
klezmer bands. That's my people.

IC: Here, I found your candidate.

LM: This octopus makes me happy. Very. Thank you.

IC: Octopotus. His campaign slogan: "The arms of the law
are not long, but they are omnilateral."

Ahhhhh, Lee Morgan.

H'lo Irwin, h'lo people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm chris:

Avatar 3:05pm Honeybear:

I don't usually agree with Irwin on politics. But I'd vote for the Octopotus any day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Scraps deSelby:

Oh, wow. H'lo Octopotus! Love the rakishly tilted hat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm MD:

OL....PAL...Ahoy Hoy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Michael 98145:

I saw Beth Orton live once long ago. Thought she was pretty wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm MD:

I'm Down wit Octopuses...Like James Bond!
As long as Octopuses are Down wit Single Payer...

These times cry out for aromatherapy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm YETI BOB:

what is this an ad for? i want to buy it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Octopus, the most intelligent of the invertebrates. Sounds like a legit candidate. The matching bowtie is a nice touch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Michael 98145:

and they are often tasty
Avatar 3:17pm βrian:

@Michael 98145: "Kids love 'em!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Scraps deSelby:

I can't eat them anymore. For intelligence reasons. Yeah, I know the many ways that is dumb. Still, I can't eat octopuses anymore.
Avatar 3:28pm Monica:

coucou anne! love this track.
  3:30pm Listener Robert:

Today's Joe Frank selection is probably my favorite of all time. I first heard it in, IIRC, the 1990s on his own show here. Next a few years ago on Irwin's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Irwin:

Yeah, it's a Top 10 Joe show. We could air it every week and no one would get tired of it.
  3:32pm Listener Robert:

#2 for me may be "A Natural Disaster".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Michael 98145:

Happily, he seems to be doing better: www.gofundme.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Parq:

Have a nice day, John Mitchell.
  3:39pm Listener Robert:

That reminds me of something I was just thinking last night: It'd be fun if some people were doing a play series on WFMU, but with better writing & prod'n than Judson Fountain drammers. We do get a little of that on "Prove It All Night", and in-one multiple-voice efforts by Hearty White & occasionally Clay Pigeon. But I was thinking more in the style of multiple-microphone live plays of ~ 1 hr.

That's if there were people who wanted to do that, and the studio space. Just saying that if anybody wanted to cook it, I'd eat it. That's the easy part, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Scraps deSelby:

Parq: --Mark Slackmeyer, Doonesbury
  3:43pm Listener Robert:

What'd Kent State mean to me? An early summer vacation from school. I couldn't get much in the way of wrapped up about it, but they used it as an excuse to end the term early. They just called an assembly, we discussed things very briefly, and then it was, get out of here now, we'll end your grades.
  3:43pm Listener Robert:

Send the grades, I meant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm rrg:

I could listen to M and the U's every week. Feel free to play them that often. Make up for those 16 years.
Avatar 3:46pm TDK60:

How meaningful, Robert.

  3:49pm Carley Fiorina:

Why Christie and not me
  3:56pm JakeGould:

That would be “The Owl Music Parlor” in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, right? theowl.nyc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Irwin:

Yes, Jennifer and Oren own it.
  3:58pm JakeGould:

Ahhh! Cool! www.dnainfo.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Zach:

heeeeeeeeey IRwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm mariano:

There's a band with Mariano in it?!? They stole my act!
  4:02pm Dean:

I've waited years to Mariano & the Unbelievables on WFMU. And then I missed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm mariano:

They'll be hearing from Mariano & the Attorneys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm JP from KC:

YAY! Got back just in time for Joe Frank!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Parq:

I'm not able to offer my undivided attention to this piece, but the phrase "desiccated St. Bernard" did catch my ear.
  4:16pm berbo:

I remember that episode of Spy magazine. It was also the 87th time they referred to "the short-fingered vulgarian"
  4:21pm Tommy Haynes:

I have lately changed the way I listen to Joe Frank. I consider him as a stand up comedian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Irwin:

The music bed is "Give the Drummer Some" by Can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Irwin:

Judith Owen singing over it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Cliff:

Heh, what Joe's talking about is a lot like being labeled as a gifted child
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Irwin:

While this ep airs, I vacuumed the main studio THREE TIMES!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

When I die, or on my deathbed, maybe I can have my molecules transmitted into thin air like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm mariano:

@Tommy: a standup tragedian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Cliff:

Did it need to be done more than once Irwin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Irwin:

Second time I did the crevices. Third time, counter tops. Yes, I vac'ed the counter tops. Dusting isn't my task.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Cliff - The first Wednesday of May only comes around once a year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Cliff:

Haha, trying to picture how grungy the main studio must've been...

This is my first time hearing this episode of Joe Frank, I can see why it's in the top 10!
  4:59pm Listener Robert:

Took Eddie Lawrence's schtick to a level only Joe Frank could reach.
Avatar 5:02pm cosmic matrix:

great show but OMG if i hear this song/loop anymore i'm going to kill someone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Parq:

Listener Robert's association for the win.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Cliff:

Whereas I'm thinking I really need to get this Can album....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Omnilateralism. Literally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...one answer to 'How are you?': Stretch hands out from sides & say 'bilateral'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Cliff:

Only works if you have the usual number of arms though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Bilateral. Disfiguratively.
  5:19pm Listener Robert:

Parq, he even quoted The Old Philosopher with that "walk in the sun" line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Cliff:

(If I was clevererer I'd come up with a joke involving polymelia and the Trilateral Commission)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...what's the ugliest parts of our bodies? I think it's our minds...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Irwin:

High point of the record fair!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Greg from ZONE 5:

YES! I missed this and then spent the rest of the Record Fair hearing about how awesome it was…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Irwin:

Possibly the most musically talented WFMU staffer.
Avatar 5:30pm Jeff:

When this came on, Matt Warwick screamed "NOOOOO!" and ran down the stairs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Irwin:

Yep, he marched in the studio and blackened my eye, might've fractured a rib.
  5:30pm DUNEBAH:

ahh, umm, aahh,, yea!
Avatar 5:31pm Jeff:

Matt sings like an angel.

But he can be self-conscious sometimes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Too bad, Matt. You been clicky-starred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

& then we'll have World Peace.
Avatar 5:32pm Jeff:

Matt has been multiply clicky-starred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Where were you, Jeff & Ted?! I did see one lady there with a dog…
Avatar 5:34pm Jeff:

Lounging in Zone 4.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Well I can't argue with that. Lovely Zone, Zone 4.
Avatar 5:36pm Jeff:

Noice zone you got there. It'd be a shame if something happened to it.
  5:39pm jan:

lovin' Neveen!
