Hi Quinn and Bob! Quinn, that was a Heldon, Cocaine Blues, from Third (1975)

France. Project of Richard Pinhas. Well worth exploring the entire catalog.

Ha! My husband said "hey check it out, sounds like your kind of thing" and I said "sounds like a Pinhas jawn!" and it was! Merci la France

The cat is not impressed by my dancing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm

I dance a lot in front of my cat, too, but sometimes I want to believe that he *does* look at least semi-entertained.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm

It could be, however, that he's just waiting for food.

Avatar 7:44pm

- &/or 'Day Tripper'. Every guitarist loves a good riff...

ディビッド:

Really good set, Gary. Your show is easily my favorite at WFMU..
one of my top three or four all-time radio shows, and I've listened
to college/community radio thirty years. You introduce new sounds..
never disappoint
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
Gary:

Aw, thanks, David! But is musicians what makes the goodness; I just press buttons
Avatar 7:48pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but I think it's more or less the Dizzy Gillespie tune :
www.youtube.com...
- that was one of the earliest Latin Jazz standards...The Beatles were actually pretty open to Latin rhythms ('Twist & Shout' - a dance song - if you think about it!)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
Gary:

There's a terrific book I want to go back to that traces a lot of Latin influences in US (tho not British) pop ... trying to remember the title
Avatar 7:50pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...more obvious 'Latin Beatles' example was 'Don't Bother Me', George's 1st song off their 2nd album...

Dang - Melt-Banana was in SF @ Slim's and Boris was in Oakland @ New Parish the same night - May 5!

Whaaaa? If someone was aware of that before it happened, they would have physically split in half, b/c how could you decide?

this Stinky Picnic is super cool. i love how they have two albums called Minecraft & Minecraft II and then say "ABSOLUTELY NOT SPONSORED BY NOR AFFILIATED IN ANY WAY WITH ACTUAL MINECRAFT. PLEASE DON'T SUE US."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Gary:

Ha ha ... I love them so much, Hyde -- not the first time I've played them, nor will it be the last. I think it's basically a father/daughter duo
Avatar 9:04pm

*snert* Stinky Picnic is hilarious.

"Big Butt Intruders"? Hmm, any relation to the, ahem, literary masterwork "Space Raptor Butt Invasion", I wonder? Eh, probably not.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Gary:

Hey there, Ike and Coelacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
coelacanth:

hyde, i never told you the irrelevant fact that there's at least one person and some of that person's friends that call me hyde, even though that's not my name...because i remind him of Hyde on "that 70's show", which i'm not sure how to take! (though he means it as a compliment)
Avatar 9:22pm
hyde:

@coelacanth well, here's a related tidbit of info! someone associated with "that 70's show" (i'm not entirely sure if it was a writer or producer) went to high school with my older brother and they used the name because they thought it was cool. the character has nothing to do with my brother, but they liked the name (and associated references)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
coelacanth:

wow, that's really cool! it was because he knew of you. not everyone gets to say a tv character was (sort of) named after him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
coelacanth:

...(i'm glad i relayed my irrelevant story then!)
Avatar 9:31pm
hyde:

it's funny, i actually watched the show for a couple years before i ever knew that fact. there are three hyde brothers in my family separated by many years and somehow we all ended up being called "hyde" by all our friends instead of by our first names. i guess it's just one of those things.
  9:32pm
Doug Schulkind:

I'd rather be a Berpisah than Fartpoopah.

hyde, you got lucky with that name!

This NYTimes correction (thanks to Kurt Gottschalk, who posted it to FB): "Because of an editing error, an article Monday about a theological battle being fought by Muslim imams and scholars in the West against the Islamic State misstated the Snapchat handle used by Suhaib Webb, one of the Muslim leaders speaking out.
