And enduring hits they are. I recall about 10 y ago, I was on the train coming home from work, and via a neighbor's earplugs I could hear Nena's big US hit. I leaned over and asked the listener, "English version or German?" She confirmed it was indeed "99 Luftballons."

i did an 80s German cassette era show a couple of months ago and when I went to do the Spinitron playlist, halfway through entering the 50 or so tracks, Chrome decided to translate the German text into English, all by itself. I had to turn translate off but it was too late. I had to re-enter everything.
