I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

So that's why my wrist was so itchy this morning when I woke up. And here I am, thinking it meant I was gonna get some money.

@Ken: from the show's title it's more like Make America Molt Again

I'd vote for an empty cicada shell over T any day of the week.

Current bpm: 65. Weirdly, this is after caffeine.

Larry Wilmore also has a sequence with Trump as Godzilla and Hillary closer to Mothra, which fits the metamorphosis title better

That "boom-boom-booms like this" has definite sample potential.

Waking up with itchiness in your wrist doesn't sound good, james, perhaps that's what it felt like for Samsa too when he woke up.

Ha! Hell, if I had those extra limbs, I'd copyedit much more quickly!

Haha! Metamorphosis isn't always so bad for humans either, then.

I fell asleep the other day and woke up without feeling on part of a finger. It's still numb. I think there may be permanent nerve damage. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm

@Ken: I had that a couple times before, but feeling eventually returned and now all is right. Feeling returned with a vengeance though, very painful for a few days

OMGoud, I heard the at nursing home comedy otherday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@fred - Thanks, that's good to hear. Luckily, it's on the side of the finger, closer to the palm and not the fingertip. It's freaky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm

I heard that it was 104°F in NYC yesterday. The city should have pumped Play Vertigo archives into the atmosphere to cool things the hell off!

This HELL track is my favorite from this week of Alan Vega tributes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm

Holy cow, Ken! Hoping it eventually gets its feeling back. I've had the same experience as Fred, though, so perhaps the prognosis is positive for full function. Doctor likely could say for sure.

@Doug, there were some posted temps for the Arabian Peninsula recently that were more fitting to Dune than to Earth. Scary.

I think we should gather up all the climate-deniers with a backhoe and dump them in the "heat dome."

Doug! The studio C is not boiling yet but I have a feeling that it will eventually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm

@Doug: the idea of "gathering all the ... and dumping them in the ..." looks disturbingly trumpian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
fred:

This Mutamassik track was pretty great
Avatar 12:39pm
Mayuko:

Thanks fred re: Alan Vega tribute, that has been my favorite since it came out! and I did feel a little bit bad for him that the articles I've seen so far about him say he had been very active in creating things his entire life, and then all of them post only stuff from the first album (although it is understandable as news articles, I suppose.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
listener james from westwood:

This is why FMU is such a resource; usually its DJs have been celebrating the less well known works of artists well before they pass. And when they do the station becomes a doctoral course in the person's work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
fred:

@Mayuko: I had never heard this track before. Then again, I first heard Suicide something like 10 years ago, so it's not like I know anything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
listener james from westwood:

@fred: Suicide & its members' individual works I know about 100% due to FMU. NO idea how I would've heard of any of it sans the station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
fred:

@james: a doctoral course without having to write that damn thesis! I work in a research institute, thesis writing is a touchy subject (I'm just a technician though, so I don't know firsthand)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
listener james from westwood:

@fred: I've copyedited theses and thesis proposals. Doing that level of coursework and research would bloody well kill me. Part of the reason I never went past my BA in English!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
Doug Schulkind:

@fred
OK then. "Place" them in the heat dome. Better?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
fred:

@Doug: I was more objecting to the rounding-up side of it, but I guess I'm just out of touch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
fred:

@Mayuko: there's an insect music record on Sublime Frequency that's pretty electronic sounding too. I think it's called Brokenhearted Dragonflies, it's probably in the station's library

@KenFHP: Whenever my 10YO hurts his finger I get no end of pleasure out of asking him to "Give me the finger." Just think--you can do the same for your doctor!

@fred: I mentioned this a week or so ago, but I'm not sure you caught the comment. I found a bottle of Tripel Karmeliet, your rec, and it was very tasty. Subsequently, while visiting Chicago, I had a glass of draught TK. Waiting in my 'fridge right now, a bottle of St. Feuillien Triple, which is supposed to be at least as good as TK.
  1:53pm
Dean:

Interesting phase effect with the cricket. My Chromebook makes it sound as if it's ten feet away in a corner of the room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
fred:

@Dean: I never had a chance to drink the draught kind, anyway I'm glad you liked it. TK is my go-to drink at Instants Chavirés, my fave venue. I never tried St Feuillien either, I should be on the lookout for that

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm

@Mayuko: my principal food is Guinness (I love Billy Jam's show too), but somehow a Guinness ice cream doesn't seem like a good idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
coelacanth:

before Explorers room was scheduled 'till 10, he often would keep going after 9 - sometimes until 10. i'm glad he's scheduled 'till 10 now, but it made it special when he went over; and i couldn't be upset when he didn't.

One little fact about Guadacanal I've always liked is that the Japanese ambassadors residence in Honaria today sits on the same approximate location as the general staff headquarters during the battle. And that author Jack London who sailed through the Solomans on his sloop the Snark in 1912 or so hated the place (mosquitos)
Avatar 2:15pm

Guinness ice cream! It must LOOK delicious though.

Yah I remember Flash Strap would do that sometimes too, coelacanth! That was always fun little surprise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
coelacanth:

hah! whenever i get i guinness that's done properly, with a head, i love the foam because it reminds me of unsweetened coffee ice cream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
fred:

@Mayuko: Black Velvet looks good too, but it's pretty dumb: champagne and Guinness, the champagne ends up between the foam and the beer, with a straw you can drink the champagne then you have you regular pint, except you paid double the price for it
  2:19pm
Dean:

Was just going to post about Black Velvet. Best to use a cheap sparkling wine, even a slightly sweet one, like a Cava.
Avatar 2:20pm
Mayuko:

ha, that IS interesting, paul b. I wonder why they'd do that? Makes memorial ceremony easy to do or something?? But not that they died at that particular point.
Avatar 2:21pm
Mayuko:

Now you're all making me crave for beer and ice cream, but not mixed together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
fred:

@Dean: best not to try to mix anything with Guinness. Its immune system is strong
  2:23pm
Dean:

Back in '87 I ordered a BV at an Oxford pub. They refused to serve it, because "It makes you crazy." So I ordered a pint of Guinness and a glass of sparkling wine and made my own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
coelacanth:

i used to down many "irish car bombs", but really i'd rather just enjoy the guinness....or the jameson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
fred:

@coelacanth: agreed
  2:25pm
Dean:

Guinness makes a nice Irish stew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
fred:

@coelacanth: Hot Jameson with cloves and honey is a great cure for a sore throat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
coelacanth:

coincidentally Mayuko, there's a chalk festival in new paltz this weekend (which i'm missing because i'm dog-sitting in ct) in which my friend Carmen is painting (chalking?) an assassin beetle nymph. she specializes in insects.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm
coelacanth:

oh, fred that sounds delicious too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
fred:

@coelacanth: I got that tip from an Irish friend, I always suspected it was an excuse to drink more Jameson (the brand that got me into whisky)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
coelacanth:

haha! i'm sure the whiskey is a double-edged sword if you're sick, but cloves have anesthetic properties and (good, raw) honey has some benefits so ...i'll try it!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for the extra music today, Mayuko.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
fred:

@coelacanth: Well, in my experience, it works. My scientific curiosity never got strong enough to remove the Jameson component though. A variant has you plug the cloves into a lemon slice
Avatar 2:41pm
Mayuko:

coelacanth, is new paltz in upstate NY? when I was looking for an artwork for this playlist today, I learned that there are many great artists who specialized in insects. It is indeed a fascinating subject! I should try it out myself sometime since Jeff M of Noise and Syrup gave me a nice book of beetles. Not the band.
Avatar 2:42pm
Mayuko:

Welcome on board, and thank you, Barnaby! & thank you all for listening and staying for this extra Vertigo!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
coelacanth:

my go-to remedy is strong of ginger, lemon & honey (& other herbs). i could see clove making it more effective for sore throat specifically.
...still, i'm going to try the jameson way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
fred:

Great show Mayuko! I'd like you to stretch to three hours every week, but I think a 2 to 3 hours show with no set end time is even better now that I can hear it live. I like unexpected
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

The festival has a web site here: www.hudsonvalleychalkfestival.com It's on the main drag though town on the west side, just east of the bridge over the Wallkill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
coelacanth:

Mayuko, yes - not far. maybe 90 mi. from jersey city, almost directly up the ny thruway.

(...maybe one day i'll send the station a mostly insect related thing i did a few years ago.)
Avatar 2:49pm
Mayuko:

@fred Thank you! I've personally felt like I do a better job when 2 hours, can make it tighter and maintain the narrative, but think I should play around with it a bit. And it is indeed fun not to have the limit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm

traffic in the village is almost unbearable on summer weekends though, unless you're traveling pretty early or very late. it's worth finding an alternate route, even if it's a couple extra miles drive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Yep, traffic bad. I usually park far from downtown and walk down the slope.
