	12:07pm Dean: There's a widely read law and philosophy scholar (meaning, he teaches both law and philosophy, not merely "law and philosophy") who has been posting a series of Great Moments in Obscure Rock 'n' Roll lately. Three days ago he posted a clip of Rory Gallagher, mentioning Taste.
	12:16pm Tony Coulter: I'm not too big on Gallagher's blues rock workouts -- just because I'm not big on that sound in general -- but early on he did definitely venture into psych.

	12:35pm V Priceless: @ Tony - have you ever explored either of the two Velvet Opera records? (featuring, of course, the pre-Strawbs rhythm section of Hudson/Ford). Real good psych/pop stuff, IMHO.

	12:40pm V Priceless: second one is a bit more bluesy/ folky, but killer instrumental version of Eleanor Rigby is a standout, among others, + dueling guitars of Johnny Joyce/Paul Brett is fab

	1:36pm Cecile: Link Wray album. I bought it at a thrift shop in Calumet, Mi for like $7. I thought I paid too much, but then it kind of developed a cult following in the intervening years.

	1:40pm Carmichael: Thought so, Tony. His given name is Dave Terry. I recorded with him one time in the early 80s.
	1:42pm coelacanth: i got that left banke comp from the "record club of america", which i belonged to from around 9 years old to maybe 15, when i think they went under (?) - it truly was an excellent thing. great prices and no obligation. i also got the best shocking blue comp that i know of and the first albums i ever bought with my own earned money.

	1:48pm Cecile: OK, the record cover - is it a Warner Brothers loss leader?
	1:48pm Carmichael: Oh yes, Tony. And quite famous. I was one of many many people filling in sound shapes, and alas, was never credited. Happened a lot back then, but I was grateful for the bit of fun it was.

	1:57pm coelacanth: does anyone here have an opinion about this: is it worth it to sell used cds on ebay (or anywhere) or should i just put them in a box on the sidewalk?
	1:58pm Tony Coulter: Depends what they are. Despite the party line that CDs are dead, some actually go for a lot of money on-line.
	1:58pm Cecile: It depends on the title. A lot of reissue CDs are one-off reissues and sold out fast.

	1:59pm Tony Coulter: The Mandrake Memorial CDs go for like a hundred bucks, for example.
	2:00pm Cecile: maybe run some of the titles on Amazon? If they are out of print and $30 from used stores, then try ebay.

	2:02pm Cecile: There are some house CDs that are going for a lot, and some grey-market reissues of psych that are going for a lot, too.
	2:02pm Dean: Instead of leaving them in a box on the curb, take them to your local public library. If they're in decent condition (not perfect, but not beat up) the Friends group will likely be able to sell them at one of its periodic book sales. Assuming, of course, the local public library has a Friends group.
	2:03pm Cecile: If you have anything by the band Trouble on Def American, it will be get snapped up - they never reissued that stuff.
	2:03pm Cecile: Dean, that's right. Mpls Library closed their Friends of the Library bookstore a while back.
	2:04pm Carmichael: Wow, is this a pseudo-Yes band?
	2:05pm Tony Coulter: There's King Crimson, Gentle Giant & ELP in there too -- but, yes... Yes!
	2:06pm Dean: Closed the bookstore?! Bah! For a time early in eBay's reign a buddy of mine and his wife ran a very successful CD auction business. All bids started at $0.01. They relied on the national and global markets to drive prices up. He'd buy CDs by the pound (literally) from the greater LA area, sell them individually online. Folks in some parts of the country had a hard time finding, say, Steve Miller records, and they'd pay a premium for them. The couple is now retired.
	2:07pm coelacanth: no, no house. nothing like that. more like Sinead O'Connor; oasis; Victoria Williams; hothouse flowers...and some odd things that nobody ever heard of -maybe local bands. .....i am keeping most of my cds. these are just the ones i never listen to or are very short so i ripped the songs so i can get rid of the bulk.

	2:21pm coelacanth: Thanks Cecile. ...i see the hothouse flowers cd ranging from $1.79 - $11.57, used. so maybe if i list them all for around 3-4 bucks each i might get it, and it'd just be worth my time. (i'm near the post office all the time anyway.)
	2:21pm Dean: Yep, Cecile. Jay and Marie are friends from a long time ago. High school math class, Jay and I would plan the next weekend's record store trek across LA County.

	2:25pm Dean: Yeah, Jay knows his stuff. His own collection is...vast. They raised their son--now an architecture student about to wrap up his degree--with the LP collection stashed hidden in the garage. Only recently did their son see what dad had stored away, conveniently after vinyl became "cool." Great way to cultivate filial affection.
	2:25pm Tony Coulter: It is my wont to keep the apostrophe in won't.
	2:26pm Dean: I wan't candy means I don't want candy.

	2:49pm Dean: Stone Temple Pilots did "Adhesive," which I've never heard. But I was thinking more along the lines of songs about mechanisms of adhesion. (That three-word phrase would serve nicely as an album title.) You know, mucilage, epoxy, polymer, cyanoacrylates, etc.
	2:53pm coelacanth: hmm. i'd guess that many years ago there was some goofey song made about the miracle of adhesives by some science organisation; or as a promo for duco cement or something.
	2:53pm Tony Coulter: @ Dean: What you need to look for is an industrial stage show prepared for the 1969 conference of the APA (Adhesives Producers of America). That should do the trick.

	2:02pm Dean: Instead of leaving them in a box on the curb, take them to your local public library. If they're in decent condition (not perfect, but not beat up) the Friends group will likely be able to sell them at one of its periodic book sales. Assuming, of course, the local public library has a Friends group.
	2:03pm Cecile: If you have anything by the band Trouble on Def American, it will be get snapped up - they never reissued that stuff.

	2:06pm Dean: Closed the bookstore?! Bah! For a time early in eBay's reign a buddy of mine and his wife ran a very successful CD auction business. All bids started at $0.01. They relied on the national and global markets to drive prices up. He'd buy CDs by the pound (literally) from the greater LA area, sell them individually online. Folks in some parts of the country had a hard time finding, say, Steve Miller records, and they'd pay a premium for them. The couple is now retired.
	2:07pm coelacanth: no, no house. nothing like that. more like Sinead O'Connor; oasis; Victoria Williams; hothouse flowers...and some odd things that nobody ever heard of -maybe local bands. .....i am keeping most of my cds. these are just the ones i never listen to or are very short so i ripped the songs so i can get rid of the bulk.

	2:21pm Dean: Yep, Cecile. Jay and Marie are friends from a long time ago. High school math class, Jay and I would plan the next weekend's record store trek across LA County.

	2:25pm Dean: Yeah, Jay knows his stuff. His own collection is...vast. They raised their son--now an architecture student about to wrap up his degree--with the LP collection stashed hidden in the garage. Only recently did their son see what dad had stored away, conveniently after vinyl became "cool." Great way to cultivate filial affection.

	2:49pm Dean: Stone Temple Pilots did "Adhesive," which I've never heard. But I was thinking more along the lines of songs about mechanisms of adhesion. (That three-word phrase would serve nicely as an album title.) You know, mucilage, epoxy, polymer, cyanoacrylates, etc.
	2:53pm coelacanth: hmm. i'd guess that many years ago there was some goofey song made about the miracle of adhesives by some science organisation; or as a promo for duco cement or something.
	2:53pm Tony Coulter: @ Dean: What you need to look for is an industrial stage show prepared for the 1969 conference of the APA (Adhesives Producers of America). That should do the trick.
