Cooh John:

Is that an opening move, pantz?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
pantz:

Groovy set. I didn't know Miles was a Lauper fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am
pantz:

@Cooh Ha! No, I was emulating Ms Jackson. She mentioned J-1 (January 1) a few times in the first song.

JakeGould:

Great Kathleen Hanna track! But this compilation was titled, “Rock Stars Kill” put out by Kill Rock Stars.

Miles was also a Michael Jackson fan.

Anyone else think David Gilmour/Roger Waters heard this before they wrote Another Brick in the Wall?
  9:50am
Brent:

This track is bomb.
Avatar 9:51am
Cecile:

not that they wouldn't have dug it, Mick, but I think their egos were kind of big then, and I don't know how open they were to music other than theirs and their pals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am

Fair point, Cecile.

more karate record!
Avatar 9:58am

Maybe David Gilmore and Roger Waters could unite and do a 21st century karate record.
  9:59am
Polyus:

There is a theater here that used to have an "Asian film series" every Friday and Saturday at midnight, which basically meant tons of obscure martial arts flicks. So fun. I kind of miss the days when you didn't have instant access to everything.
Avatar 10:00am
Cecile:

co-written by a guy in the Hooters.
Avatar 10:01am
Cecile:

Poly, I used to work that when they showed the movies on Saturday morning. I'd do everything from take tickets to sell squid jerky.
Avatar 10:01am
sphere:

agreed, Polyus, one of the obscure UHF channels in the DC area had a Kung Fu Theater on Saturdays. i could not wait for that to happen!
Avatar 10:01am

Super nice people.

@Polyus: I know what you mean.

El Rey TV has a kung fu night weekly, and they are no Ang Lee art-fu films. Great and cheesy.

@Cecile - Riverview Theater?
Avatar 10:03am

Yes! I volunteered with Kate and those guys because we were broke and we got free passes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am
melinda:

Discoveries felt more special when they weren't at your fingertips happening all the time.
Avatar 10:06am
Cecile:

Yeah, you'd have to train yourself to take a name off a record that might have been a producer, a session player or even a thanks, and go and seek them out.
Avatar 10:06am
Cecile:

anyone underline fanzines?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am
Mick:

Polyus, not that I'm complaining about being able to get (almost) All the Music and Movies All the Time, but yeah, we're definitely missing something by not having to go out into the physical universe. And Cecile, yes with the underlining & note-taking!
Avatar 10:10am
Cecile:

I think it's kind of heartwarming that the serious kids are seeking out original vinyl and book editions, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am
melinda:

@Cecile: I didn't seek musicians out that way, generally. Which might explain why I'm always thinking to myself 'why didn't I know about this then?'
Avatar 10:11am
Cecile:

Well, I still missed a hell of a lot. too many times I'm going "I have that record! Why didn't I know that?"
Avatar 10:11am
Cecile:

it's that lumpy ADD concentration.
  10:14am
Polyus:

@Mick - definitely good and bad. I often prefer to watch movies at home because people can be annoying in theatres. But with those m.a. flicks, it was part of the show - people getting all loud and out of hand is what made it awesome.
Avatar 10:16am
