Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from August 23, 2016 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Sumac  Live in the WFMU studios   Favoriting Engineered by Mario Santana & Justin Foley    Best described as "pugilistic rhythm-and-noise", the trio known as Sumac have just released their second album "What One Becomes", and have hit new peaks of dense, complex, face-punching, feedback-drenched chaos. The band is made up of Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Mammifer) on guitar/vox, Nick Yacyshyn on drums (Baptists), and Brian Cook on bass (Russian Circles, These Arms Are Snakes, Botch). They played at St. Vitus in Brooklyn a couple of nights earlier, August 18th, but hear them metallicize WFMU's studio B today. See more at Thrill Jockey's website and Sumac's Bandcamp.    1:36:20 (Pop-up)

Brian, I had seen at least half of those bands on the Sharpies collection on the Countdown TV show in '76. Real trip down memory lane.

My Sharpies comp got sent to my old address then fell into the abyss of getting forwarded. :( my new neighbor is a letter carrier, he's working on locating it, it seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.
