Avatar 7:21pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Reminded of these guys from Garylord's Fake Beatles blog:
blog.wfmu.org...
...Imagine some of these guys had a typical Arc from Beat Group to Psych to Prog
...& Phoenix here really does balance the Prog & the Rawk very well !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Gary:

Yay, Gaylord! I love Czerwone Gitary
Avatar 7:27pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I worked in a thrift store - & played them - & a Polish lady who came in flipped out.
In balancing the Prog & Rawk as Phoenix does, they remind me a tad of Captain Beyond: a devoted cult following, but too Rawkin's for the Proggies & too Proggie for the Metalheads @ the time commercially...Phoenix adds the Romanian 'Folk' sound of course...& '75 is overlapping w/ the Ramones & Pistols in the West practically - but we could expect a delay...

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I've never heard Plastic People that I remember! They're referenced all the time of course - I think there was an even a play about them?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Gary:

Yeah, I think ... I want to say ... Tom Stoppard? Does that sound right?
Avatar 7:43pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Here's something :

www.nytimes.com...

...'The story of the Plastics (as fans call the band) is central to Tom Stoppard’s play “Rock ’n’ Roll,” although it is told from the sidelines by fictional characters. It’s a story not of activism but of whimsy treated as sedition, stubbornness met by brutality and a regime unknowingly consolidating its opposition. Repression amplified the band’s impact, though at serious personal cost to the musicians'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Gary:

Aha! Thank you, R!
Avatar 7:45pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I saw a thing on TV about it, & I've always recalled a line something like :
..."These aren't Revolutionaries - they're Pagans"...
Avatar 7:47pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...that has to remind me of what happened to Os Mutantes et al...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Gary:

I am hearing that phrase "These aren't Revolutionaries ... they're Pagans" in one of those Coming Attractions Narrator voices
Avatar 7:51pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It would make a good Psychotronic Exploitation flick tag ! - but this was not that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Gary:

Especially with this track in the background
Avatar 7:52pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...altho' coming @ it from a Zappasque angle no doubt would have pleased the Plastics themselves...

Makes for surprisingly good 'pinning together a sewing project' music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Gary:

So, are you pinning it to one of those super thin paper things (my mom used to sew, so I remember the brownish paper) ... a pattern? The music does make me want to be productive, yes -- although that could also be the coffee I made :)
Avatar 8:22pm
Cheyenne:

I actually am just ripping off the pattern for something I already have, so I am doing things a little more, uh, freeform, haha! I'm actually pinning the fabric portions together, they're already cut up and ready to roll.
Avatar 8:24pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Early on the Kryzys set - strongly reminded of The Fall, then some Blixa Bargeld (Einsturzende) - & now a little Blixa again - his voice a bit...maybe that's not enuff...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Gary:

That sounds awesome, Cheyenne! RevRab, I definitely agree - hearing lots of things weaving in and out in these guys
Avatar 8:26pm
tim abdellah:

Bit of a Psychedelic Furs feel with this saxophone, too. Enjoying all of this!
Avatar 8:28pm
hyde:

last i checked, it was a seventh inning stretch. which means you are like 2 and a half hours into some interminable baseball game
Avatar 8:28pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- very interesting to hear eras echoed back from a somewhat different culture that's unfamiliar! Appreciate this.
Avatar 8:30pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Search Brian Turner's specials on The Fall.
Avatar 8:31pm
Cheyenne:

I love Dragnet, by the Fall - but MANY of them are super good, and yeah, seconded RRN63's suggestion about Brian's specials - tons of bootlegs and stuff! One of the bands I find myself returning to (and they're still putting out albums).
Avatar 8:32pm
hyde:

@RevRab Brian Turner's Fall obsession has yielded some real ace stuff over the last couple years, for sure!
Avatar 8:34pm
hyde:

The Fall record i most love is the Kicker Conspiracy double 45 from c. 1983. Soo good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Gary:

I totally want to hear BT's Fall shows now!
Avatar 8:40pm
hyde:

it's possible that i mention this every time that you focus on rock stuff from this area in the 80's. but i traded hardcore tapes and was pen pals with a guy from Ljublana in c. 1980-1981. i have always wondered what happened to that dude, given what went on over the next few years.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm

It would be nice to know he made it okay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Gary:

Maybe you should plan a trip to the region and as part of that, try to find him?
Avatar 8:52pm
hyde:

that would be great, but it's been 35 years, and i haven't lived in the place where we traded stuff for nearly as long. i don't think the connection can be made anymore. probably i should just stop bringing it up every time you play yugo rock! ;)
