Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Michael 98145:

nice strut
Avatar 3:18pm Roberto:

This tune doth rock somewhat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Liz Berg:

(backs away slowly...)
  3:20pm JakeGould:

Lenny Kravitz is a lot better than some folks a cubicle away who are talking about the Trade Federation in Star Wars.
Avatar 3:20pm Roberto:

Word, Jake.
Swag For Life Member 3:21pm nightjeans:

That's new to me @Liz
Avatar 3:21pm V Priceless:

Alice! Spirit! Yow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Carmichael:

Always loved this Spirit tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Passaic River Blues:

Lots of insider info in that DJ ID.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Michael 98145:

@Liz, i like the coffee table full of booze
Avatar 3:29pm Jeff:

@Liz: note the well-brassed classic Leica a stylist has placed prominently on the, um, coffee pedestal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Passaic River Blues:

We gets down baby, up for the crown baby!
  3:35pm jan:

Michael Bolton Mashup ---Steely Dan- where is this going?
  3:37pm jan:

@Jeff- do you mean the Lenny Kravitz special model brassed Leica fetish? Where?
  3:42pm jan:

@Jeff- I found the link- I had no idea about the pillows and chairs that Lenny designed. But you can check out the Kravitz Leica http://cameras.reviewed.com/news/lenny-kravitz-designed-a-leica-camera-and-its-gorgeous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Irwin:

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Irwin:

You people are so reticent today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Alison Porchnik:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Irwin:

No, it's just their hoof prints.
Avatar 3:55pm Roberto:

Yes! Love this one. (Swan Dive)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Irwin:

This song has everything, even sitar!
Avatar 3:57pm Roberto:

So goddam upbeat yet not at all cheezy.
  4:05pm Nina:

Lol- "as if expecting a food pellet"- Joe Frank is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Alison Porchnik:

Jack Kornfield is the adult equivalent of Mr. Rogers.
Avatar 4:20pm βrian:

Why didn't he just get his permission slip signed?
Avatar 4:30pm geezerette:

The Bodhi Tree is gone!
  4:30pm Nina:

@Alison- Yes, totally!
Avatar 4:32pm geezerette:

Frank is so hilariously accurate about L.A.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Fred Rogers was a Presbyterian Minister, after all. & never a product line.
  4:38pm Dean:

@geezerette: Wasn't Bodhi Tree amazing? I remember one trip where I picked up, I don't know, a dozen recordings by Nikhil Banerjee. Such a pity it's no more.
Avatar 4:38pm geezerette:

...happy little trees...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& no phony answering message - tho' you might've been addressed via the Daniel the Lion handpuppet...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Irwin:

I know many folks who in live in LA and like it. I understand that. It can be fun to visit short-term, but inevitably when I'm out there I find the place soul-deadening. I once asked Breckman why he didn't live there, since (at the time) he was working in films and TV. He said he didn't like the place because "it's a godless town."
Avatar 4:41pm geezerette:

@Dean, it really was great. Incredible used bookstore. Also time travel!
Avatar 4:42pm βrian:

Oh, *those* apples!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I lived in Santa Barbara 16 years - not Thuh City - but just the Sun shining all the time is like prozac in the water supply. People will hug each other readily - but what does it mean? That's not an absolute statement...
Avatar 4:43pm βrian:

Scrip me up, Doc.
  4:44pm Dean:

That bookstore! A damn pity.

@Irwin: I can sympathize. It took me 40 years to get it. (And then, ironically, I moved away.) I don't think it's godless. I think LA is a sprawling pantheon of many gods. One less now that Bodhi Tree is gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

A fave : farm6.staticflickr.com...
Avatar 4:45pm geezerette:

Irwin you're not wrong. I used to love it because it was such an absurd place; and all that Hollywood history everywhere. It's losing it's sense of place so quickly now, like everywhere. Not as funny.
Avatar 4:47pm Fredericks:

Just tuned in, heard Jack Kornfield. Thanks Irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There is the idea that Humanity starts in NE Africa - & some always Move On - & the final migration frontier is the West Coast - L.A. It's the end.
  4:50pm Dean:

LA the end? You've never been to Provo, UT, have you?
Avatar 4:50pm geezerette:

@Dean, pantheon is accurate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...West of West...
Oh - there's a difference between Nowhere & the Edge. Now I'm back in smalltown NorthNewEngland. A Nowhere.
Avatar 4:51pm βrian:

Everybody's got a thing.
Avatar 4:52pm geezerette:

Ha!,L.A. is the eastern edge of the Pacific Rim, and then it starts again. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...exactly - the Buddha lands.
  4:53pm ?:

I visited LA for the first time a couple of winters ago, just after the holiday season. The sidewalks were strewn with discarded brightly colored synthetic Christmas trees, awaiting disposal. My thought: "I've a feeling I'm not in New England anymore". I was immediately won over, but perhaps in a short-term sort of way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...they're still Christian out East here...
Avatar 4:54pm Fredericks:

Rev, end of land sadness; end of land gladness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 4:55pm geezerette:

@RevRab,good point!
Avatar 4:55pm βrian:

SF, though.
Avatar 4:57pm βrian:

I can hear the cardigan, you're right.
Avatar 4:59pm geezerette:

@RevRab, funny cartoon!!!
Avatar 4:59pm βrian:

"Buttle, not Tuttle!"
Avatar 5:02pm geezerette:

So glad you play these Irwin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Michael 98145:

Long Beach, CA, used to have the largest population of Iowans outside of Iowa
Avatar 5:04pm geezerette:

@Michael, you're right! I'd forgotten that!
Avatar 5:04pm βrian:

Burritos, Pierre! Brian in UK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Michael: Oh - Cali is a series of Theme Parks - whatever you want. Bakersfield is 'Nashville West', ferinstance...
Avatar 5:09pm geezerette:

RR, yep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or Movie Sets, if you prefer...
Avatar 5:11pm geezerette:

Speaking of which,Pioneertown and Joshua Tree are now western edge of Brooklyn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Carmichael:

Hunter Thompson talked about "the jagged western edge of America, where anyone with the right set of eyes could see where the culture hit high tide, then began to ebb." And that was written in the early 70s ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & one gathers Hunter saw it as a vivid hallucination...
  5:20pm Fred:

are you a Hunter gather-er
Avatar 5:20pm geezerette:

Paul Bowles was complaining about global homogenization in the 30's so It's probably a matter of degree. (Or Mr. Bowles was a cranky young man.)
Hallincinations happen spontaneously in desert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Parq:

This FOW track just kills me every time. Well, most of them do, but some more than others and this is definitely in the top percentage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

They get to send it up & wail - have their cake & eat it.
Avatar 5:24pm geezerette:

Parq,just clicked it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..nice work if you can get it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Irwin:

Any song that ridicules hippie burnouts is fine with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

They're so brilliant.
Avatar 5:26pm geezerette:

  5:27pm Dean:

Drank a Kern River Brewery Dirty Hippie Imperial Red Ale yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Parq:

I never understood the song well enough to realize that they (I assume it was a Collingswood song, but who knows) were ridiculing a burnout. I just love the sound of it. One of the greatest turn-that-the-fuck-up tracks FOW has done, and that's a sizable roster.
Avatar 5:28pm geezerette:

Dean, did it taste like unwashed feet?
(I'm guessing not.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Take FOW's tune 'Sick Day' - like the greatest Simon & Garfunkel that never was. Genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Michael 98145:

( for an ideologue, you sure play some fine jazz )
  5:31pm Dean:

The brewery claims it "smells like a dirty hippie." I can't confirm. It was decent.
Avatar 5:32pm geezerette:

...with hints of patchouli...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...beer feet - they hops...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Michael 98145:

... and hemp undertones ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Parq:

Dean and Geez, thanks. I was just starting to develop a little appetite and it was distracting me. You two sure took care of *that*.
Avatar 5:34pm geezerette:

LOVE the jazz. :)

@RevRab: !!!:D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Irwin:

Thank you, Michael. That's a compliment. Even the ideologue part.
Avatar 5:36pm geezerette:

@Parq: (snicker)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Carmichael:

Hmmm, Kern River Brewery. I suppose it's down by Bako. Will have to look it up.
Avatar 5:38pm geezerette:

@Michael: haha! :)
  5:40pm Dean:

I think you're right, Carmichael. DHIA is evidently not presently on tap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm chris:

Avatar 5:49pm geezerette:

@Irwin: Just clicked on the supper. Great site! Will thoroughly explore later. Thanks for sharing! (Which is what you do.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I still think I'd pick California over Florida. Florida too muggy for me.
Avatar 5:55pm geezerette:

Clifford Brown! Lovely!
Irwin Chusid, time well spent. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Ken: Oh - the Climate is perfect. Do you like tremors?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Michael 98145:

what Ken said
