Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm common:

u2 had a few good uns thanks, therese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, U2's first 1980 album? "I Will Follow Two Glorias Beating As One"..

Hello Therese, and all YOU beautiful people out there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Therese:

Hello! Please excuse my self-indulgence...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Matt from Springfield:

..."(With A Shout)"...
Avatar 10:06pm northguineahills:

When I was a wee lad, my Boy Scout Troop took a trip to London. After getting off the train somewhere in East Anglia on our way to a Boy Scout camp, I found a boot sale, and picked up one of the original presses of Boy. Being the idgit I was at that age, I thought it was special, however, I still have it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Matt from Springfield:

We look forward to it! This station is nothing if not self-indulgent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I researched it and see that U2 was founded Sept. 25, 1976. Happy 40th birthday, lads!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Therese:

And don't worry, I'm reasonably sure all members of U2 are just fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Tome:

Larry Mullen ,,great drummer , not many give him the credit ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Tome:

& HelllloWWW
Avatar 10:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Now of course I'm ALL about Teardrop Explodes' 'Wilder' & the Bunnymen
...in the actual years, tho', I was still looking for the TheWho's Spiritually Righteous Replacement - & we all thot U2 & their ilk (...Big Country...The Alarm even...yes...) might qualify for a minute...& these Steve Lillywhite productions weren't the worst, were they?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ken HP: Woohoo! Over the Hill, and over their Vertigo!

Bono? Check!
Edge? Check!
Other Guy? Check!
Other Other Guy? Other Other Guy??! Oh wait, he was in the loo, check!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Yvang:

This year it has become frightening to hear three songs of the same artist on WFMU...
Avatar 10:09pm BadGuyZero:

Larry Mullen Jr. is a vampire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

If I didn't know better, I'd say Therese is going to play U2 until her thermometer gets off 1%.
Avatar 10:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Sunday Bloody Sunday' had real social impact - & not artlessly.
  10:10pm RogerP:

Who knew I'd be glad to hear some U2 tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Matt from Springfield:

"There's many lost but tell me who has won?"
Truly one of their very best lyrics, so many great social conscious songs from the mid 80s. "New Year's Day", "Pride (In The Name Of Love)", "MLK", beautiful stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Therese:

Yeah, what do I have to do to move past 1%?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: Oh - well I guess we don't need to worry about him, then! Splendid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Matt from Springfield:

Nice, like Sandy Denny gone Alternative.
Avatar 10:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Damn they like the best.
Avatar 10:19pm northguineahills:

Yeah, I've never heard of Heron Oblivian, tight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Matt from Springfield:

SHOCK and BLAWKtober
Avatar 10:22pm Linda Lee:

good evening Therese! glad you made it up to these lovely mountains this weekend! def remember WPDH from back in the day before i was able to pick up FMU.
Avatar 10:22pm BadGuyZero:

They played a post-vest-Bono block of U2 songs for Blocktober.
Avatar 10:23pm Fox (Rā-chul):

I feel like Radiohead has gone a bit U2.
Avatar 10:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@ngh: wfmu.org...

...A VHS of R.E.M. doing an arena-sized concert & keeping the spirit right impressed me - & made me reflect how U2 & others have failed that test...
  10:25pm P-90:

Hi Therese and Theresians.
T's U2 comments: on point
Avatar 10:25pm Linda Lee:

props to WPDH Puuuhhhhhh-kippsy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi P-90!
T is A-1 on U-2.
  10:26pm Carmichael:

Heya Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm melinda:

Nice Calexico
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Linda - "The Home of Rock and Roll"
Avatar 10:29pm Linda Lee:

indeed. the old age home. :-D
  10:36pm ø:

great playlist! making me remembrance and digging it
Avatar 10:36pm BadGuyZero:

I thought I heard sirens outside when this Dutchess And The Duke song started, but either the noise was in the song or the sirens stopped when I muted my stereo.
  10:38pm Carmichael:

Wow, good ol' Tim Buckley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Tim B!
Wonder who the female singer is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Matt from Springfield:

Marcia Waldorf, Sharon Beard, Myrna Matthews and Lisa Roberts – backing vocals
from 1973
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Do you know if Tim Buckley did any other songs with a "soul" feel like this?
Avatar 10:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Late-period 'lover man' Tim stuff I'm not as familiar w/ & gets critically put down (?) - but that was fine!
  10:44pm Carmichael:

@Matt: yes, most of Sefronia for starters. Stone in Love is another great song from that Lp. He seems to me to have discovered soul later his career.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Meh, what do they know anyway! Gain a good rating from Robert Christgau, and lose your "(Memphis) soul"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm Matt from Springfield:

All right, thanks Carm! I know of his "Song to the Siren" and Lorca stuff, but that's a different (and new, and good) sound to me.
Avatar 10:45pm Linda Lee:

beautiful show so far Therese!
Avatar 10:46pm Linda Lee:

Tim Buckley's later work was amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm Matt from Springfield:

Beach Star!!

Thanks Linda, I need to check that out!
  10:48pm Carmichael:

Wow, what a sweet cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Matt from Springfield:

Marcia Waldorf specifically - thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm fleep:

Dodgers 1 Cubs 0 and greetings Therese
Avatar 10:58pm Linda Lee:

Therese dear, did you say Elektra was a country label? not so, love. rock & pop, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Shoes! Milk & Cookies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm mariano:

Hey y'all, glad to be able to catch the second half!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Matt from Springfield:

Awesome - this Kathryn Calder was Pre-Clicked! And from another Therese show no less!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi mariano!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Therese:

Linda- I don't associate Elektra with country either, but if Joe McGasko says they released country records, I am inclined to believe him!
Avatar 11:07pm Linda Lee:

i remember country as very much their side game. i guess we'll find out! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Therese:

Avatar 11:09pm Linda Lee:

why we love WFMU so very much!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Matt from Springfield:

Woooooo! Fre-KAY Kate!
Never listened to this whole album but Julie says it's her fave Kate. And speaking of social consciousness, this title track is evidently about the poor treatment and ethnic cleansing of Australian Aborigines. The "Dreaming" has to do with their creation myths and stories - pretty good, and she's not even Midnight Oil! ...
  11:11pm JakeGould:

@Therese: Hi! How are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Matt from Springfield:

  11:13pm JakeGould:

  11:14pm evan:

I love True Widow so much. Heard 'em on WFMU first, years ago...
Avatar 11:17pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Hello current participants of WFMU.
  11:18pm phat:

amazing stuff!
Avatar 11:19pm northguineahills:

Fly Ashtray reminds me of '96 for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Pete and participants and lurkers, hey!
  11:20pm Carmichael:

They are related to Phoaming Edison and Uncle Wiggly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Rock organ! Paging Mike Sin!!
Avatar 11:29pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Wow, Fly Ashtray is a name I have not heard in a very long time. I now realize it is a play on fly ash, but at the time I just pictured a very tiny little ashtray a fly could use.
Avatar 11:33pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

It's 11:32 in the pm, Therese. Not to be too picky...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Matt from Springfield:

Cider doughnuts??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm Matt from Springfield:

You're just disappointed? Well Dave Hill is *ENRAGED*!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Matt from Springfield:

"Cider doughnuts" sound a bit acidic to me, but I'll take the word of our friends in the Hudson Valley on this one.
  11:36pm zenkoan:

Therese, I feel your pain. I have powerful childhood memories of those donuts and have fantasized about having them again since.
Avatar 11:37pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Go to Demarest Farms in Hillsdale. Go early or you can't park.
Avatar 11:37pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Don't have them shipped. They stink if they're not fresh.
Avatar 11:40pm Linda Lee:

oh my gosh ~ the donuts. i have none here. i must have some. very soon.
Avatar 11:40pm northguineahills:

Nice cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Therese:

Pochuck Valley Farms in Vernon, NJ always did right by me during cider donut season.
Avatar 11:42pm BadGuyZero:

The Bananarama song is now a band?
Avatar 11:42pm Linda Lee:

Adam's Fairacre Farms in Kingston has the top donuts. Saunderskill Farms on Route 209 also has the top donuts. both Ulster County.
  11:42pm phat:

I was just listening to this pylon yesterday. one of my favorite rem records is their cover
  11:44pm phat:

and I was just listening to thus game theory, too!
  11:46pm phat:

Donetta lives here in Lincoln, NE now.
  11:46pm zenkoan:

Always enjoy a shot of good power pop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Therese:

I KNEW we should have driven to Kingston!
  11:48pm marianne !:

re: cider donuts, try Alstede Farms at the JSQ farmers market in JC. I think Wednesdays. Their pies are pretty good, too. On their website they have email & phone contact number
Avatar 11:50pm Linda Lee:

yes. definitely should've gone to kingston!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Therese:

Ooh! Thanks, Marianne!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Sounds like The Turtles riffing on The Delfonics.
  11:50pm JakeGould:

I think all of the cider donuts come to local NJ/NYC farmer's markets. Pretty sure piles of them show up at the Union Square farmer's market.
Avatar 11:52pm Linda Lee:

they don't keep that well though. purchase & consume early!
  11:55pm P-90:

"The Cider Donut Lament"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Matt from Springfield:

@Therese: Well, admittedly you DID blow my mind, this time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Therese for all these great tunes!
Thanks everyone else for hangin' out and/or lurking here! Have a good night!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am mariano:

See y'all, thanks Therese!
