When I was a wee lad, my Boy Scout Troop took a trip to London. After getting off the train somewhere in East Anglia on our way to a Boy Scout camp, I found a boot sale, and picked up one of the original presses of Boy. Being the idgit I was at that age, I thought it was special, however, I still have it.

We look forward to it! This station is nothing if not self-indulgent!

I researched it and see that U2 was founded Sept. 25, 1976. Happy 40th birthday, lads!

And don't worry, I'm reasonably sure all members of U2 are just fine.

Now of course I'm ALL about Teardrop Explodes' 'Wilder' & the Bunnymen
...in the actual years, tho', I was still looking for the TheWho's Spiritually Righteous Replacement - & we all thot U2 & their ilk (...Big Country...The Alarm even...yes...) might qualify for a minute...& these Steve Lillywhite productions weren't the worst, were they?

"There's many lost but tell me who has won?"
Truly one of their very best lyrics, so many great social conscious songs from the mid 80s. "New Year's Day", "Pride (In The Name Of Love)", "MLK", beautiful stuff.
Avatar 10:11pm
Therese:

Yeah, what do I have to do to move past 1%?

@Carm: Do you know if Tim Buckley did any other songs with a "soul" feel like this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Late-period 'lover man' Tim stuff I'm not as familiar w/ & gets critically put down (?) - but that was fine!
  10:44pm
Carmichael:

@Matt: yes, most of Sefronia for starters. Stone in Love is another great song from that Lp. He seems to me to have discovered soul later his career.
Avatar 10:44pm

@RRN63: Meh, what do they know anyway! Gain a good rating from Robert Christgau, and lose your "(Memphis) soul"...

All right, thanks Carm! I know of his "Song to the Siren" and Lorca stuff, but that's a different (and new, and good) sound to me.

Woooooo! Fre-KAY Kate!
Never listened to this whole album but Julie says it's her fave Kate. And speaking of social consciousness, this title track is evidently about the poor treatment and ethnic cleansing of Australian Aborigines. The "Dreaming" has to do with their creation myths and stories - pretty good, and she's not even Midnight Oil! ...
