More Hearty White & Lonnie Holley & less everything else.

...and political candidates all lined up in a row
Avatar 7:11pm Dan Bodah:

I'd vote Lonnie Holley/Hearty White 2016. What would their slogan be though?
Avatar 7:11pm geezerette:

Hearty White'll stick to yer ribs.

Hi Ken from HP!

huh. I always thought it was a catfish, but you're right Dan, it's a carp.
Avatar 7:21pm geezerette:

I thought it was a catfish too. Certainly one of the all time best album covers.
  7:21pm bodahcar:

White & Holley, better by golly Sorry, I'm waitin fer some yodels!
Avatar 7:23pm geezerette:

I like that slogan! Sounds like straw hat, whistle stop campaigning.
Avatar 7:26pm Dan Bodah:

Good golly Ms Molly, it's White and Holley! White & Holley: to the future on a trolley. It would be folly not to vote White & Holley!
Avatar 7:27pm geezerette:

I see a series of tee shirts.

Hey Jake!
Avatar 7:32pm ranjit:

I really like this Kofelgschroa &c.!
Avatar 7:41pm Dan Bodah:

@ranjit, it's great, right? Seems like a one-off. I found it on youtube, there are some other videos from that venue and with those same musicians.
Avatar 7:43pm Dan Bodah:

This music is crazy. It sounds like there's a bagpipe tootling away in there when the backing drone singers come in, but it's just the weird way all those voices bend each other
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Say Dan, have you seen the couple that does harmonic kissing? youtu.be...
Avatar 7:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

That was Community. What the hell we got?
Avatar 7:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& this is a whole movie...
Avatar 7:49pm Dan Bodah:

@Ken, yeah, I have seen the harmonic kissing thing. It's Tran Quang Hai's thing. He teaches harmonic singing and throatsinging workshops. I have seen him do that technique -- lifted from Inuit & Ainu throatsinging technique btw -- with a bunch of people in various videos.
  7:50pm JakeGould:

@Ken: That seems a lot like Marina Abramović did in her “AAA AAA” piece. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 7:50pm ranjit:

The ghost bagpipe is like La Quintina only more... bagpipey! Have you had La Quintina on your show?
Avatar 7:51pm Linda Lee:

good evening!! love hearing the fantastic Slim Gaillard!!!
Avatar 7:55pm Linda Lee:

Slim was an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist, arranger & composer.
Avatar 7:58pm Dan Bodah:

@LL, thanks -- yeah he was amazing, right?
  8:00pm bodahcar:

great show Dan!
  3:12am Dan Bodah:

@Ranjit, thanks for the link about La Quintina. I've played a fair amount of Sardinian 4-part polyphony and yes, I believe it has included that 5th voice. I always thinking of it as sounding like they create a harmonica effect. I have been thinking that the Albanian iso-polyphonies and the Sardinian polyphonic singing are very similar in this way. The regions are not so far apart and both seem prone to preserving pockets of older culture; when Listening I often wonder if this is what Homer heard. Tonight as I listened to the Albanian tunes I thought maybe this was how the Sirens sang.
