Heh, came to star this track and found I'd already done so. Would not be surprised if it were from an earlier show of yours.

Is this, so far, a catalogue of the greater America we're commencing to be again?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm

Sort Of.

I remember when this Cannonball track was on the charts. A jazz instrumental recorded before a live audience was a pretty unusual thing to hear on AM radio in those days, but there it was.

Those were also the days when what we were worried about was Richard Nixon. He turned out to be everything we feared he was and worse, and yet the republic survived. We survived eight years of Reagan and eight years of Dubya-Cheney. We'll get through this shit too. Somehow.
Avatar 2:44pm
chromaphone:

We survived Reagan but are still reeling from the repercussions of his actions, so unfortunately your logic doesn't make me feel so hopeful Parq :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
Parq:

Sigh. Right you are. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm
doctorjazz:

Have to say I feel the same way, Reagan did serious damage that didn't get completely corrected, some help came with Bill Clinton and Obama. George W brought us Isis, multiple wars, 911, and the economic meltdown, all of which we are also recovering from (and Dems took the blame for these during the campaign). And, I think Trump could be worse than either of them. Though I do think he's brighter than most think, he orchestrated this thing very well, maybe he'll continue his way of just ignoring what he said previously and be a bit more sensible...or maybe not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm
listener james from westwood:

Point to note. Lots of gay men didn't survive Reagan, because of his silence on AIDS.

One of the best gifts I ever gave someone, about 16 years ago, was an Italian movie poster for Planet of the Apes, and I just was thinking about it a couple of days ago.

One thing we all can do to strike a blow against evil, same as ever, is to support WFMU! The station's nearing the goal and hoping to make it this weekend. pledge.wfmu.org...

I understand it too - I'm a little more optimistic than most I think - the signs have been mixed so far - some poor suggestions for administration posts but some conciliatory words too. What I don't want to see are the Dems resorting to some of the same obstructionist tactics the Repubs have used

Well....That made me feel better! Truth is, I've had this sinking feeling going back to Tricky Dick in '68. This time though, we get a truly Sociopath in chief.

men who call themselves feminists can help by listening to women right now. although there are many other folks suffering from this just as much as women, (immigrants, Muslims, trans, gay, etc) there is something especially difficult about this for women - and I'm not talking about HRC *NOT* being elected. I'm talking about *WHO* was elected.

Interesting read, for those hating the Red part of the country (which is almost all of it) right now...

Diggin this show Matt 5ash, thanks much.

Being disappointed and even alarmed with the Red part of the country is fine - hating is as as bad as the Red part of the country hating the blue part - if that's really how people feel that's really bad
Avatar 3:31pm
Melissa Jean:

I can't hate the red part. I have red relatives. It hurts very much.

Stevel:

Remember, among other things, that while states and areas went red or blue, there are many on both sides in any piece of geography (Indiana here. Sorry about your vice president elect. Sheesh!)

Lots of folks still have common ground. The country IS my country as well at theirs. People interested in a functioning democracy will be able to sweat together to make things work. (Maybe not today or tomorrow though. I'm still pretty ouchy and suspicious.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
doctorjazz:

That's the gist of the article, a journalist from the Blue part of the nation, who grew up in the Red part, and his take on it and a description of how they see the Blue part.
