"I love... old r&b, food that's chinese, clappin' on the twos... and booze"
Avatar 2:46pm
Lewis:

I am just realizing that I associate this tune with Mose Allison (may he rest in peace), but hadn't really thought about the fact that it is unlikely that he wrote it...
Avatar 2:47pm
Lewis:

(oh yeah and the Dust to Digital collection of field recordings from Parchman Farm is *really* cool...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm
Matt F:

It's similar to a Bukka White song of the same name but Mose wrote must of the lyrics to that version.

Dungaroos Kipawah:

I love this Larry Williams/Johhny Watson song--first heard this via Rick Danko, who played it solo a lot back in the olden days.
  3:18pm
Nate K:

I would love to hear Rick Danko's take on that one.
Avatar 3:19pm
Monica:

plus amazing album cover of LW & JGW - title: two for the price of one.
  3:21pm
Dungaroos Kipawah:

A real walin' stomper. Rick had a way of making everything kind of sound like a jolly Country Bear Jamberoo (not a bad thing), but this song always made my hair stand up. When I finally heard the Williams/Watson version, another lightbulb went off.
  3:24pm
Dungaroos Kipawah:

As for Arthur Alexander, this is a perfect record. One of my all time all times. I always wish Joey Ramone had done this (or Rick Danko, for that matter)
  3:26pm
Zev:

RE: "Not For Me", I've been wondering since the 11th if I'll ever hear that one performed again.
  3:27pm
Nate K:

I love Arthur Alexander. I think compared to other heavy-hitters of the day, he doesn't necessarily have the strongest voice, but that's precisely what makes him so great. That "weakness" gives his songs this special sadness and vulnerability. At least to my ears...
  3:29pm
Dungaroos Kipawah:

Yup--there's a vulnerability and ache to his stuff that's so keen and he just transmits it so well on record. Helps to write songs that express that hurt so well, too. He was great at the start, in the middle and in his last lap, too.
Avatar 3:32pm
Lewis:

Hey Matt - are those oxford discs I got from the marathon from you? They are cool and have some nice surprises...
Avatar 3:32pm
