I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Aaaah, love the user pic! And the sounds of the Americas.

listener james from westwood:

I can 100% guarantee I first heard "Tea for Two" in a classic Warner Bros. cartoon.
Avatar 12:08pm
Mayuko:

Ha! I never knew that! That's the kind of moment that I can feel I made the right choice. There's definitely a context there even without me knowing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
listener james from westwood:

Same w/ choosing a Latin-sounding Perrey track. We're in good hands this afternoon!

Hi everyone! Enjoying the tunes this afternoon.

hello Mayuko and others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
coelacanth:

aw i missed a Jean-Jacques tribute?
- Bill, by "micro-cells" you mean smithereens, right?
Avatar 12:50pm
Bill Mac:

@CC - I do! but In thought that I'd honor Marvin by quoting Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 century.
Avatar 12:54pm

Using Warner Brothers cartoon characters as an analogy to the situation? You're more American than you think.

Mayuko - I'm glad to hear you're staying in the USA. I was afraid you were going to move to Germany (or somewhere), after the election! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
coelacanth:

i'm sad to know of your situation, Mayuko. unfortunately, i'm positive that the "conservatives" (i really don't like the inaccuracy of those commonly accepted terms, but...) - would be happy to hear that it's difficult and intimidating.
Avatar 1:04pm
Mayuko:

coelacanth! glad to have you here! Hallo FMU Comrade Fred, welcome on board! mdashkin, as long as they don't kick me out - it's really up to them where I can be. Frustrated Face.

Still feeling anxiety because of the election results. Nightmare even in cold russian hell. Any advices for immigration?:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Jason_:

Hey Mayuko & listeners.

Still another potential election nightmare (rerun of Austrian Presidential election, Green v 'Freedom' Party) in 2016... and 2017 with Le Pen looming. Scary times.
Avatar 1:13pm
Bill Mac:

@Mayuko BTW did you get my reply to your email?
Also, YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE! Fingers crossed!
Avatar 1:13pm
Mayuko:

@coelacanth it's a struggle, but it has given me the chance to gain more imagination and sympathy for people's lives who needed to fled during the world war 2 without knowing they can make it or not, and the refugees etc. It's really horrifying when you don't have much control over your life. So it's been a good learning lessons.
Avatar 1:13pm

Hi Mayuko! Where to go? The whole planet is destabilized and crazy.
I think the American people are,in general, more open minded and open hearted than the election indicates. At least I hope so.

Hi everyone else! :)

Bill @12:54 Japanese are so Americanized already. And I DID receive your reply! Thank you so much! The work was crazy yesterday and then I went to see Crash Course in Science and got home late, fell asleep right away.

^^ as an European observer I take (sort of) solace that 60 million votes out of 300 milllion population is not necessary indicative of a national psyche
Avatar 1:21pm
Mayuko:

@Fred well, this new president loves Putin and he permits Japanese to arm themselves with nuclear weapons, so our Far East neighborhood is good I guess.
Avatar 1:21pm
Mayuko:

And hallos Jason_, glad to have you here!

Crash Course is a vintage Philly punk band. Hope they were good...
The missus is digging Hope Sandoval...

@Jason: Yes, he has no mandate. He and his team behave that way. It's impossible not to think of WWII.

Mayuko, wish you good luck. I understand you. Wanna immigrate to France because I'm in love with its culture and warm atmosphere, parisian chic etc.) but afraid of right-wing populists. So sad that democracy is taken for granted. I wish those populists could meet 'real conservative folks' here, in autocratic society. Hope you survive trumpsfdays

Bill Mac:

At last count Clinton leads Trump in popular vote by at least 1.5 million, and they're still counting. Another way to look at it.
  Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
mdashkin:

Folks: Remember that Clinton won the popular vote. It just seems like a huge victory for Trump b/c of the electoral college. If several of the swing states (Florida, Pennsylvania) had voted just 1 percentage point the other way, Clinton would have won those states (and the election).
Avatar 1:28pm
geezerette:

The show today is such a comforting presence Mayuko.

@Fred: So happy you're ok!
  1:28pm
Fred:

I've always hated 'left' and 'right' labels. Problem is that people in poor societies travel so little, they can't feel and appreciate diversity. Sometimes 'conservatives' just struggle with everyday difficulties Mayuko, wish you good luck. I understand you. Wanna immigrate to France because I'm in love with its culture and warm atmosphere, parisian chic etc.) but afraid of right-wing populists. So sad that democracy is taken for granted. I wish those populists could meet 'real conservative folks' here, in autocratic society and don't have time to educate themselves.
Avatar 1:30pm
Mayuko:

geezerette @1:13 I agree completely. America is actually not that bad as much as American people say. I know there's really horrible news now. But here everyone is vocal about their opinions, whereas in my country it's so easy to be trained to shut up. I'd imagine that's not too different in Russia too. In many other countries. There's no society without problems and racists, but as long as there's open discussions, that's so so much healthier as community.
Avatar 1:32pm
geezerette:

Mayuko@1:30: That's exactly what we're worried about losing!
  1:32pm

@geezerette thanks. Sorry for the mess in my previous message, something wrong with the keyboard%(

Those guys like Trump just legitimise hate. He can't ruin anything.
Avatar 1:46pm

I feel like it's the anger we need to deal with and learn what it is and how it works, before it turns into hatred towards others.

I'm catching up with the archives after a month away from everything. Weird that you played Kaija Saariaho's Jardin Secret. I'm supposed to make a linux version of the software she used for that piece. Next year maybe (low priority, so I'll probably never get to do it, but my personal interest and motivation just went up by a lot)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm

"Berceuse Pour un Bébé Robot" means "Lullaby for a baby robot"
Friends of mine named their daughter Saaki. Her mother is Japanese and her father Finnish, so they spelled her name that way to give it a Finnish look
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
fred:

Thanks Mayuko, this was a great show. I really missed the wide range of music you select each time.
Avatar 12:26am
Mayuko:

welcome back, fred!!!!! Good to see you here again! They say Japanese and Finnish have similar personality in general - and high suicidal rate in common, haha. May God bless Saaki! I like that name.
