Anybody know why they called Coleman Hawkins "Bean" when it's so obvious that he should be nicknamed "Hawk"? Eternal jazz puzzle.

Hey Joe . got the week off and enjoying your show in it's entirety. Thanks for playing my favorite Magazine song " a Song From Under The Floorboards, which I have on a 12" as well as the original LP

Oh, you just answered me! Thanks, drjzz!

Why not just download & play from hard disc?

@Robert: DJs like to handle objects, but CD-Rs suck, as we all know. @Brownyn: I'm glad!

Listener Robert:

This song explains why my new housemate doesn't want my washcloth hanging on the grab bar over the tub, because he might accidentally touch it.

Listener Robert:

Joe McG, this is a serious question: Are there DJs there or at any station you know of who are strictly FJs (file jockeys)?

Nat King Cole, all day every day.

@Robert: Yes, there are, but I won't out them. We'll probably all be there one day.

Love that muted horn yelp at the start.

Joe McG:

@Greg: I should start playing him every week! Have you ever heard "After Midnight"? Amazing LP.
  11:40am
Listener Robert:

I know file jockeying can be done very fast, because I've heard bits recorded from someone who does prank calls using clips of Arnold Schwarzenegger, putting them on as dictated by context. He has to react quickly & memorize by name which files say what.
  11:42am
Listener Robert:

Either that or the whole bit is bogus, with the person supposedly on the other end of the line playing along and the whole thing edited.
Avatar 11:43am
Joe McG:

@Robert: It's great if you're adept at it. If I were doing a show from a computer program, I would've probably shuffled some things around in a different order in certain places, but I like the excitement of dealing with LPs and CDs.

Greg from ZONE 5:

@Joe: I have! Solid gold.
  11:45am
Listener Robert:

I'm sure there are also ways to do mixing & fading digitally. But I wonder if anyone scratches digitally. ;-)

I scratch with my digits all the time.
