Avatar 3:08pm Jason Elbogen:

Good! Afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm annie:

hi jason...listening!! rare, i know. mostly archives for me
Avatar 3:15pm Jason Elbogen:

Hey Annie, welcome back! How are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Dave in Vermont:

hey there, sounding good. thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Dave in Vermont:

high frequency words instead of low frequency words
Avatar 3:32pm Jason Elbogen:

Dave--but with 'coincidence', it's really difficult to give a succinct/simple definition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm annie:

i'm well, jason..this is geat selection so far!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Alex In Illinois:

First, explain what an incident is, then explain what the "co-" prefix of combining form does to a word.
  4:00pm melinda:

Hi all
Avatar 4:01pm Jason Elbogen:

Alex-but with that explanation, any two co-occurrences would be a 'coincidence'. Like if there was a car accident outside my apartment right as I spill a wine glass.
  4:11pm Dean:

Coincidentally, there was a car accident outside my apartment as I spilled a wine glass precisely when that comment appeared!
  4:13pm Dean:

On my stereo system at the time, Eric Burdon & War's "Spill the Wine" and The Avengers' "Car Crash"!
  4:18pm Dean:

Don't worry so much about the mathematics, the probability issue with "coincidence." Consider issues of causation. Coincidence is the co-occurrence of two events, as Alex suggests. When two events co-occur, we sometimes have an inclination to assume one causes the other, or that they share a cause. But if their occurrence is merely coincidence, there is no causal relationship.
  4:22pm Dean:

Dang. Give the drummer some.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Dave in Vermont:

Jason an hour later (after Semantics class, no less) I havent heard all of your talking. Do you teach English?
  4:47pm Mark R:

Scared shitless...
  4:50pm Mark R:

I think it's originally Hindu, it comes from Sanskrit, but it 's been applied more widely in contemporary times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm annie:

zen buddhism: koan: question with no answer.
  4:52pm Mark R:

I usually have a laptop handy for double duty when I 'm on the air.
  4:52pm Dean:

Long ago as I drove a freeway in LA I was sideswiped by a semi with a trailer. My car spun around perpendicular to the direction of traffic, and the truck pushed me down the freeway before braking. I was scared. I thought the end was near. But I wasn't scared shitless. I was seriously pissed off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Dave in Vermont:

Collaborative playlists....hmmmm. Marathon premium?
Like across the pond they do fancasts of football (soccer) matches so you can listen to regular ppl instead of paid sportscasters.
  4:54pm Dean:

I read that Curious George story every few months to my daughter.
  4:55pm Mark R:

I'd think twice about giving out that password!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Dave in Vermont:

Try reading Curious George from an post-colonialism perspective.
  4:56pm Dean:

My mother--nearing 90YO--utterly loathes Curious George. I'm threatening to have him appear at her 90th shindig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm annie:

i really disliked the curious george stories, on so many levels. i even avoided reading them to my son
  5:05pm melinda:

This is hilarious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Dave in Vermont:

good annie, you shouldn't read them - they're fucked up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Dave in Vermont:

mind blown, Jason
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Dave in Vermont:

the whole robot paradox blew my mind
  5:28pm Dean:

She finds him "creepy." I don't mind him all that much. The Man in the Yellow Hat is weirdly allegorical in ways I can't decipher.
  5:29pm Dean:

Ergo, a set of songs not obviously related to each other!
Avatar 5:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the way things are going, Grey Goo is sounding like a less severe possibility... :
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Dave in Vermont:

When I was a kid I was a huge Curious George fan. He was my favorite stuffed animal. It was when I was reading it to my daughter that I realized it was about a white man, saving and knowing what was best for a lesser creature from Africa. Conscious or not it is part of the paradigm that needs undoing.
Avatar 5:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jane Goodall books instead.
Avatar 5:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...who ya gonna call?
Jane Goodall ! ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Dave in Vermont:

i'm calm, i swear
Avatar 5:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...that's good - cause chimps can sense that...
  6:09pm DL in LA:

It's sort of a John Cage listening moment. I think your mic is still on and we can hear typing.
  6:11pm Dean:

Supposed to be the stream now, right?
  6:11pm Dean:

There we are...
Avatar 6:12pm Jason Elbogen:

Oops. Ok, it should be on the drummerbot now.
