Hey Jeff and GO'ers, Happy Sunday-posting early, will be listening mostly on the road. Heading to Philadelphia to hear Nels Cline/Larryy Ochs/Gerald Cleaver (maybe a guest or 2), playing at a house concert there (again tonignt at Johnny Brenda's). Saw them there Thursday night, great skronking, WAY OUT show, would recommend tonight to anyone that can make it.

Good morning Jeff and listeners

Jeff Golick:

@fred!!! How are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am
fred:

Still hurting in many spots, and some things are not right yet, but I can listen to the station, and that's a major improvement
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Jeff Golick:

Yes. It's certainly heartening (ahem) to see you hereabouts. Best of luck with the recovery. Any requests?

Hullo.
Ya gotta get Into it if ya wanna get Out of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am
fred:

What I like best about the station is hearing stuff I don't know or forgot about for years. Requests don't go well with that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am
Jeff Golick:

Howdy, @Revolution Rabbit! True words. Now I'm hungry for In-n-Out Burger (and I've never been to one).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am
Jeff Golick:

Will do my level best to surprise and delight, @fred.

...nor I, & I lived in SoCal for 16 years. I was however apprised of the practice of editing their bumper stickers to say 'In & Out urge'...

Warm greetings to you, @Brian in UK, and you, @northguineahills!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am
Jeff Golick:

@ngh: bit of an outlier, I guess. (Plus, Doug is usually talking over it when he plays it...)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:45am
Brian in UK:

@ngh dare I ask about job progress, my friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am
fred:

@Brian: I'm sleeping well enough, though I've reached the 7 hours limit imposed by my med-taking schedule. I dumped the painkillers after a couple of weeks, when the side effects got worse than the pain
Avatar 9:53am
northguineahills:

@Brian, I got to run, will talk about it later in about 90 minutes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am
Jeff Golick:

See you, @ngh!

@fred always read the leaflet with the drugs, the side effects can be up to ten or twelve in number.
It is having to sleep on your back that is difficult.

Cool!

That set makes me want to see Gerald Cleaver. Philly is way out of my range though
  10:36am
Dean:

Makes me want to hear Craig Taborn, too. I think he played with Sonny Simmons and Michael Marcus here in Oakland several years ago as The Cosmosomatics. Or am I making that up?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:38am
Brian in UK:

Dean, if you are. Good work.

Trying to sell things of an auction site and it is driving me nuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am
Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @Dean. I am really looking forward to hearing this group on Thursday, including Taborn: roulette.org...
  10:41am
Dean:

The venue was near the Chinatown branch of Oakland Public Library.

Lord, yes, Jeff G.! Wow, what a lineup. Would so love to hear Evans and Sorey live.

A friend and I interviewed Miya Masaoka in a former apartment of mine here in the Bay Area for a movie the friend made.
  10:41am
Doug Schulkind:

Just sitting to lunch. Please pass the Grey Poupon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am
fred:

I have seen Taborn a few times, but always with Tim Berne.
@Jeff: That show looks amazing. What a stellar lineup!
  10:42am
Dean:

Friend of mine had a pet cockatiel named Poupon. Guess why.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am
Jeff Golick:

I once saw Taborn in our local video rental store, which shows you how long ago that was. I still regret not hailing him and saying how much I loved his work.

@Doug! Bon appetit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am
Jeff Golick:

(Saw him renting a video, that is. It wasn't a live music venue.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am
Jeff Golick:

Here's that Laubrock group.
  10:47am
Dean:

Saw Taborn (and Cleaver) here: http://jazztimes.com/guides/events/2215-michael-formanek-with-tim-berne-craig-taborn-and-gerald-cleaver-at-yoshi-s-oakland

Bumped into Matt Shipp at DMG c.2000. I did tell him how much I loved his work, and I asked him if he knew the works of Sorabji. He had not, so I promised myself I'd record Opus Clavicembalisticum for him, but I never fulfilled the promise. Could still, though.
  10:47am
Dean:

He *did not.
  10:49am
Dean:

"Pothole Analytics." I wish Laubrock worked for the Berkeley Streets Dep't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am
Jeff Golick:

With NYC's 311 line/app for reporting such things, I don't doubt that there are pothole analytics in play.

@Dean: that is a great group you saw @ Yoshi's.

I'm doing fine, thank you for asking, Jeff.
  10:56am
Doug Schulkind:

Roulette indeed was originally in Manhattan. And one of Roulette's founders has a show on Give the Drummer Radio!

Tune in to Ridgewood Radio, Wednesdays 2-4pm.
  10:57am
Dean:

I suspect we will soon hear music composed using algorithmic explorations of corpora of open data collected by local/state/federal government departments. Reports of potholes will inspire the next Goldberg Variations.
  11:00am
Dean:

Or Tales from Topographic Highways.
Or The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, albeit Uncomfortably.
Avatar 11:00am
glenn:

also, grey poupon contains the words gey porn, which, as everybody knows, means that the clintons are running a pedophile ring in the basement of the grey poupon factory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am
Jeff Golick:

Belated greets, @glenn! That story you tell seems about right.
  11:05am
Doug Schulkind:

Gotta git back to work. It's been real, gentlepeople.

I'm sorry to report that laundry refuses to wash and iron itself, despite my weakened state. This show provided a nice soundtrack to a tedious chore
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
Jeff Golick:

@Brian: a boy can dream.

@fred: glad to hear it, and really overjoyed to see you back here.
  11:56am
Dean:

Seems to me there's a much higher demand for self-washing/ironing laundry than for autonomous vehicles.
  11:56am
Dean:

I believe Rodney Bingenheimer was in Chocolate Watchband, at least briefly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am

Dean, I think you're on to something. Please remember to throw a few millions the station's way once you're a billionaire
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm

Autonomous vehicles will just happen, like the proliferation of Twitter. One day it's a fad with questionable market potential. Next thing you know the president elect leads the news every night by saying inane things on it .

I'm with Atrios re: self-driving cars. Ain't gonna happen in our lifetimes. There will be a shit-ton of hype--is already--but there won't be a deployment at anything approaching full scale.
