Indeed, Jeff. Timely theme as well: for the first time in over a month, I didn't have to be up at 7am, so I slept until almost noon

Glad to hear it, @fred. Does that also mean your sleep is less interrupted these days?

Oh, nice, @Andrew. How'd it go?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am

@Jeff: I hope you're not mad at me for comparing your glitch skills to Jason's during his show. I actually like these moments, it's live radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am
Jeff Golick:

Not at all, @fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am
Jeff Golick:

(I took up the glitch challenge in a later comment. Might've been right at the end of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am

it was great, she played an art gallery. Played some composed and some improvised pieces.

Not playing Holiday music? Oh THANK GAWD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am
listener james from westwood:

I too appreciate this as thus far an island of non-holiday music. My reaction to holiday tunes varies year to year—this year it's fairly neutral—but I'll likely reach a saturation point next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am
Jeff Golick:

G'day, @Revolution Rabbit Nov63! Yeah, though I am on the radio next Sunday morning, which I gather is Christmas day, so...forewarned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am
listener james from westwood:

But don't let that deter you from playing exactly what you want. I defend WFMU DJs' freeform freedoms as waaaay stronger than my need to hear or not hear something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am
Jeff Golick:

@Andrew: awesome. Is there a good audience, typically, for that kind of thing in B.C?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am
Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: and that's just what makes you a great American.

@Jeff, in in Ontario, just east of Toronto. There was a good audience there last night. It really varies. You get a lot more improvised stuff in Guelph (20 minute drive) and it's 2-20 people showing, here it is about the same.

The show was GREAT, @Fred! My only complaint was that it was too short (Nels Cline spoke about his career for a while, then they played 3 tunes. Cline's career is interesting, as is his take on different musical things, but I would have hed them play more instead). It was in a friend's living room in Philly. I had heard them in a club a few nights earlier, no comparison sound or impact wise to the Sunday living room performance, which was just amazing! (and, they had good bagels).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am

I've seen Nels Cline play a lot in the last 5 years.

some great performers (and a stand out in the ensemble, he he he), going again to yhe matinee today

@Andrew: I once had a fun conversation with Bill Exley after telling Art Pratten he looked a lot like one of my uncles (same beard and haircut, similar clothes) who was a high school French and Latin teacher. As far as I know, my uncle never played in an all-world influential band, though
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:59am

Seen Nels in Wilco, heard him in hes more adventurous projects on record, but not live. He's a wild man. Chop sticks between the strings, banging the guitar in all sorts of ways, quite an arrray of sounds and textures.

He's pretty soft spoken in person, though, for one who's so OUT THERE in performance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am
Andrew Waterloo:

I've never seen him play with Wilco. I've seen the singers, one of his larger ensembles, and then him playing with other people. I loved the Nel Cline Singers, but then again Trevor Dunn was playing bass for them.
