I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar 12:04pm fred:

Good afternoon Mayuko, Dave, james, and everyone
Avatar 12:08pm Mayuko:

Good afternoon, fred! Hove you been feeling recovered a bit by bit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Christmas blessings, Mayuko and Drummer chums.
Avatar 12:09pm Mayuko:

Happy holidays to you too, Ken!
Avatar 12:10pm fred:

Yes, I'm recovering and have fewer doctor appointments now. And I received my christmas present to myself today: the Dust to digital bundle of their 2016 releases
  12:12pm Ike:

Greetings and salutations.
Avatar 12:13pm Mayuko:

@fred wow. That's the BEST Christmas present!!!!!!
Avatar 12:13pm Mayuko:

Good afternoon, Ike! Thank you for tuning in!
Avatar 12:18pm fred:

I've been doing that for a few years, ordering once to save on shipping. The bargain on the bundle was a nice surprise, I hope they will keep doing that
Avatar 12:24pm fred:

Nice Gavin Bryars track
Avatar 12:27pm Mayuko:

Yeah! This album of Gavin Bryars is quite beautiful.
Avatar 12:33pm fred:

This makes it 4 clicky-stars in a row, I might as well favorite the show already
Avatar 12:34pm Mayuko:

haha, despite of the show started with "wonderful christmastime"?!
Avatar 12:37pm fred:

I like what I like more than I dislike what I don't. I'm just wired that way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm listener james from westwood:

Back from the kitchen! That set was excellent chili-making music!
  12:52pm Doctorjazz:

happy holidays, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm listener james from westwood:

Joy Division was my first-ever karaoke, back in April. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" in my case. My friends aren't much up for it, so I never had the chance. Fortunately I was a roomful of hundreds of tipsy copy editors at a convention's afterparty and the margaritas were strong in my veins.
Avatar 12:59pm Mayuko:

welcome back james! now I'm hungry and want some chili!!
Happy holidays to you too, Doctorjazz, thank you for tuning in!
Avatar 12:59pm fred:

Dust to Digital released a 2CD+book set of Lomax' prison recordings called Parchman Farm. I think it's out of print, but there's probably a copy in the library.
Also, wasn't your bed music a Bjork track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm listener james from westwood:

So I went for one of the classics; with my tremendously narrow vocal range, Curtis was a good match.
Avatar 1:03pm fred:

@james: I'll take your word that your range is narrow, but you still need a deep voice to pull it off. I certainly couldn't
Avatar 1:07pm Mayuko:

Can't imagine Joy Division on Karaoke! Doesn't it make people feel sad and wanting to go home crying rather than partying?!?!
Avatar 1:08pm Mayuko:

and yes, that was a Bjork track, which I only realized now that it was way too fast to talk over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Blue Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm listener james from westwood:

New Order!! This too would be on my karaoke list. (Why yes, I was a heavy WDRE/WLIR listener as a youth.)

@fred: Yelling over a crowd all night helped deepen my vocal cords juuuuust enough.
Avatar 1:11pm Mayuko:

Doug! Happy Saturdays!
Avatar 1:12pm Mayuko:

haha, I CAN imagine New Order on karaoke, that must be fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: Years ago I made chili for the masses during a WFMU Marathon. Nobody went to the hospital, so I'll take that as a success. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm listener james from westwood:

Doug! Good tidings be on your house!
Avatar 1:14pm fred:

Blue Monday was the first New Order track I heard (years before hearing about Joy Division) at a cousin's birthday party. I annoyed the DJ to learn what it was then spent the remaining years of the 80's converting Depeche Mode fans to New Order
Avatar 1:14pm Mayuko:

Hopefully I'll see you next time during the marathon 2017, james! (((and your food))) if you're around!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Doug Schulkind:

And may good tidings ebb and flow their way to Westwood, Listener James!
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

It must have been True Faith that I heard New Order for the first time, since it was a huge hit in Japan too. Previous singles must have been too but I don't remember hearing them then.
Avatar 1:20pm fred:

Actually, Blue Monday wasn't the first. New Order tracks were used as theme and/or background music in music shows on French TV (including the top hits countdown). I just didn't know it was New Order
  1:21pm Ike:

I don't think James's chili is Jewish. (IS there such a thing as Jewish chili?)
Avatar 1:24pm Mayuko:

Blue Monday was used for some TV commercial too, is that right? I don't know how one can handle it when you write a song about a close friend who committed suicide, and hear it being used to sell some irrelevant products. That must be surreal.
  1:30pm Ike:

Sorry, that was a very silly proofreading joke (sort of).
  1:32pm melinda:

This is fun
Avatar 1:33pm fred:

This is insanely good and insane in a good way
Avatar 1:34pm Mayuko:

That was PARTY MUSIC, melinda! thought we needed some festive feeling! welcome on board!
Avatar 1:34pm Mayuko:

I agree, fred.
Avatar 1:49pm Mayuko:

Avatar 1:49pm Mayuko:

Thank you all for listening.
Avatar 1:50pm fred:

No! You can't end such a great show with this
  1:51pm (((Ike))):

Oh no! Ha ha ha, yikes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

That was a fast two hours. Thanks, Mayuko, and enjoy the holidays. Can't believe it'll be New Years Eve next Saturday already.
Avatar 1:52pm Mayuko:

THIS would be my pick for karaoke though!!!
Avatar 1:55pm fred:

Then again, keeping christmas trees around turns them into a fire hazard
  1:58pm melinda:

Kentucky Fried chicken and motel sex? Haha
  1:58pm rw:

Thank you Mayuko! Excellent xmas show!!
Avatar 1:59pm fred:

Thanks Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Mayuko! Best present ever!
Avatar 2:02pm Mayuko:

@fred good point! Sad Face.
Avatar 2:02pm Mayuko:

Thank you everyone again for listening!!! Have a great week, see you next week.
Avatar 4:16pm fred:

Playing that last track looks eerie by now
Avatar 10:46pm Mayuko:

It did feel strange to hear the news! So sad there is no next Christmas for him.
