Listener comments!
9:02am : yes the day has stsrted🥁 9:02am : Anything starting with Curtis is going to be great.9:03am : Good morning, Bob. Thanks for Curtis Mayfield--an uplifting start to what appears to be a beautiful Saturday in the making.9:03am : Hi Bob! Love Curtis in the AM9:04am : Good morning! Loving the Curtis!9:04am : Mornin' all!9:08am : Hi bob and friends! Never knew Del Shannon sang this.9:08am : Del Shannon, love it! Hi all!
Comma Comma Comma Comma Come Commma Comma (not sure I got that right).9:08am : good morning BB!! i'm happy to be here! hreat tunes so far!9:10am : Good morning, Bob, and all.
Who would think these Gary Lewis songs would hold up so well.9:10am : Mornin` Mr B, and all.9:11am : Curtis is spoken of as the influence representing Hendrix's spiritual lyrical Soul aspect - but I'm not sure I've ever heard/read Jimi reference him directly? Curtis had his own open tuning on his Strat - grew up around charismatic Church - a definitive voice. But you know all that.9:12am : Gary said that 'Sure Gonna Miss Her' is his biggest seller on the Internet.9:15am : Happy Saturday, BOB and FOB! I believe in you!9:16am : Love the music from the 60s and 70s9:20am : The Doctor is in!9:21am : Nice Dr John, not sure I can tell the mono improvement on the clock radio I use in my office, but it is great to hear (then again, haven't heard this in quite a while).9:22am : Why was there a mono mix in the US in tha late 60's anyway? I thought that was an English thing, preferring mono, and even there it had pretty much been settled in favor of stereo by the late 60's.9:26am : 'Come to the Sunshine' episodes here both Del Shannon & Gary Lewis: cometothesunshine.podomatic.com... - That's a great program btw, downloadable for anytime ( - later!)
...Mono & UK - interesting Doc! I just heard a vintage advert - Sears was selling Mono for less...🥁 9:29am : Morning all! Back at ya BB!!9:30am : GOOD Morning!!! I'm on ET time spiritually and musically.9:42am : I saw John Wetton playing bass for Uriah Heep in '75. Next time he popped up producing and singing on an incredible Duncan McKay album.9:43am : Is Burlesque Steve Marriott? Sounds like him.9:44am : It's mambo time!9:45am : The 'I Dream Of Jeannie' theme!9:47am : I like the Weekend.9:49am : I remember going to EJ Korvettes Downtown Brooklyn, in the mid 60's and seeing mono versions and stereo versions, it would be a dollar less for the mono (was it $2.99 and $3.99? Don't recall exactly, that was the ballpark...). By the late60's that had disappeared, only stereo albums on the racks.9:52am : The whole thing with the Beatles Mono box set reissues was supposed to be that the Mono was considered the important mix, that was the one they focused on, the Stereo was a concession to the US market that was much more stereo oriented, and was an afterthought.9:52am : $2.99 and $2.49 when they had a sale!🥁 9:53am : If i'm not wrong, Gris-Gris came out early in '68, which would still be in the stereo/mono release era. I think the stereo mix is better. Some of the cool panning is lost in the mono mix.9:58am : Got the NRBQ box, a lot to listen to, but really enjoying it!
(if you're in the NY area, Steven Bernstein, who was on Bob's show, is playing with a jazz group, Mostly Other People Do The Killing-one of the great band names-at Cornelia Street Café tomorrow night. I'll be there...)9:58am : What chameleons be NRBQ! Hearing the 12-string gtr and side-stick percussion, I thought this was unissued Byrds.9:59am : interesting info about the Beatles/mono recordings. I thought that psychedelic back-and-forth sound thing emphasized in Rubber Soul and Sgt Pepper was an enhancemnt that they embraced10:11am : Artie Schroeck Implosion is a great name10:11am : 'Rubber Soul' in 1965 (early days for Stereo in their case) originally had a Stereo mix w/ instruments separated hard Left & Right. You could hear them just Playing - or just Singing by turning the Balance knob that way. & we always used it to test speaker connections that way & such. When they were issued on CD (I think it was), George Martin did a new Stereo mix from the original masters. Also for 'Help!' ? The Beatles' 1st two albums - 'Please Please Me' & 'With the Beatles' from '63 - were still only recorded on two-track machines, w/ basically instruments on one & vocals the other - so Stereo for them is limited to that! By Pepper in '67 - there were two distinct mixes for Mono & Stereo - & much discussion of their differences & relative merits. Lennon himself said if you haven't heard Pepper in Mono, you haven't heard it. People go track-by-track in terms of their preferences - but not a few say the Mono Pepper is the weightier creature, when many critique Pepper for being too flowery, or something...
In the U.S. - Tom Dowd @ Atlantic for instance had had eight-track machines & such for a long time! TheBeatles had the genius of George Martin & the professional dedication of 'white-coated' British Engineers - but not til '68 & the 'White Album' did they even start to get beyond four-track recording. 'Abbey Road' in '69 was technologically a whole different animal than all the rest of their catalog - & only then was there no Mono release.🥁 10:15am : Codona!!10:19am : But, at the same time, EMI was recording great stereo orchestral records (audiophiles consider them collectable, and they sell for a premium), no "Beatles stereo", with the strings on the left and the horns all on the right. Mike placement probably had a lot to do with it, along with a desire to GET a good stereo mix.10:26am : - not the Pop market, but Classical Audiophiles. & serious British Engineers. Presumably they still didn't record on more tracks, or they'd have been available to THe Beatles? It hadn't been pointed out to me before that the U.S. market for Stereo was notably sooner.10:32am : I am in chat room for comcast now. Figured might as well join a chat room with real people instead of dogs typing about comcast.10:32am : Just want to pick up some music knowledge from you guys and gals.10:34am : I am just a fly on the wall, please excuse my interuption.10:35am : I was wondering about that buzzing...10:35am : Good luck w/ the high-pressure negotiations, Prof!10:40am : RRN46-went to that link, Come to the Sunshine, looks interesting, check it out later, thanks!10:42am : The Giant Gila Monster. Best MST3K episode ever!10:42am : Morning all!
I think I say this every week, but I *love* the old movie clips…10:43am : Saturday Matinees - absolutely!10:44am : Have any of you used a Rifftrax from the MST3K guys before?10:45am : Thanks for this Giant Gila Monster. Think I'll spend the rest of this rainy California day watching shlock cinema, and braising a 4 pound pork butt.10:45am : Rifftrax?10:46am : when it rains, it pours. stay safe10:47am : The Beach Boys meet Monty Python.10:49am : www.rifftrax.com...
The MST3K guys put out riffs that sync with movies you own.10:50am : In order to get around having to pay companies to use their movies. So they have a track for Stallone's "Over the Top."10:51am : Gosh! I know this song from the Monkees!10:51am : Just as an example... lots of others. Just curious I purchased one myself.🥁 10:51am : Turtles did this? This is a Mike Nesmith tune. No?10:52am : Thanks @NJ Prof. I'll check it out.10:53am : You can't make this stuff up.
Chris Christie: President Trump Made Me Order the Meat Loaf at White House Dinner10:54am : Soylent Green10:55am : ... IS PEOPLE!10:55am : @lloyd nothing surprises me anymore.10:57am : Sad, but true.11:00am : Lloyd are you an NJ guy? Christie always has a puff piece on 101.5 FM11:01am : Okay ladies and gentleman comcast call complete... looks like I'll be a FIOS person soon. But always a Woof Moo guy!
