Dude, yer NEVER gonna get ratings playing all this obscure stuff! The Pretenders and The Who were great, and The Ramones are AWESOME, but Kid Rock? More like Kid Suck! And R. Kelly? Rick James? (Both either accused or convicted of violent or sexual crimes against girls or women, by the way.) What's next, Drake? Kanye Worst? Snoop Dogg? Know thy audience! I mean, I'm not trying to be stupid or insulting -- just trying to give a bit of constructive criticism. Give us some rockin' hits! Three good songs in two hours? Not good enough! You can do better -- I just know you can!

If we stop playing music based on the habits of the artists we'll have nothing to play. Most of them are not very nice people so let it be.
Avatar 8:08am

@ Tommy. I imagine that in programming for three hours there are not going to be songs that everyone likes. Overall, I like the music especially the fact that I have never heard much of this before.
  8:09am
noel:

Tommy he's playing to us all, not just you. Go around the dial and there's a wasteland.
  8:10am

@ tommy I'm insulted you think we need the 'hits' here that's not why I listen to wfmu for the record Warwick has incredible music selection I'm kind of the Warwick troll come to think of it
  8:16am

Courtney and Fuzzy - the musical note that fuzzy mentions is in the older version of the iPhone app. On the new version the thing to do is navigate back to the full option of streams by clicking the word "Audio" in the upper right.
  8:19am
Chris in warwick:

Jonesy could I request a tom waits song
  8:19am
noel:

You attract more "Do Bees" with honey than vinegar. If Jonesey can pull from the Dover station or the "Metromedia" substitute then the listener base will sustain the station. We had religion in the morning for years and none of you complained then.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am

When has FMU ever programmed on the basis of "ratings"? Do they actually mean anything if you're not selling advertising? Of course, you need a listener base for listener supported radio, maybe just as much, but FMU, at least for me, has been discovering music I don't know as well as hearing stuff I like. But, usual disclaimer, YMMV.

Well, except curse and swear.
  8:55am
Tommy Walker:

Good point, generally speaking, Noel, but methinks society has to draw the line somewhere, and violence, especially sexual, against children and women seems like a good place to start. Those two especially (Rick James, R. Kelly) should be shunned, ostracized -- I personally wouldn't want to put a penny in their pockets. Besides, I happen to think that they totally suck, but that's just my opinion and I know that not everyone agrees with it (nor should they).

NJ Prof, you also make some excellent points -- not every song can appeal to everyone, and I, too, enjoy discovering new music as well as old music I haven't heard before. But I think a programmer needs to find the right balance...

Tomasz: You're putting words in my mouth! I wasn't exactly asking for more old rock artists -- I'm sick to death of the classic rock station, which keeps playing the same few tired old songs over and over, decade after decade... I just think Jonesy and this station should try to be a bit more competitive -- I'd love to see Jonesy and WFMU beat the classic rock station in the ratings.
