Good Morning, Your Excellency!!!!
Quick traffic update before I go brave the usual idiots making u-turns right out of parking spots across Kearny Ave.: The Cross Bronx Expressway is messed up even more than usual due to an accident under the apartments. If you're crossing to the Jersey side over the GWB, get comfortable, finish your coffee and listen to Jonesy because you're not going anywhere any time soon.
Have a happy day!!!!!!

  7:42am Courtney of Morris:

I have a tech question, I listened to an archive show over the weekend and when I went to open the app this am it was stuck on the archived like I couldn't get live streaming. I deleted and reinstalled the app and I'm back but is that normal?
  7:42am Courtney of Morris:

Sorry to be so annoying so early.
  7:44am Alice Formato:

Good Morning Glen, Looking forward to hearing You All week:)
  7:46am StuBot:

good morning mayor Jonsey... driving on the streets of New Jersey picking up folks and taking them where they got to go it's very good to hear you you're awesome music and your wonderful with this morning
  7:50am Courtney of Morris:

Oh a troll on the comments that's actually kind of cool bc I feel like I rarely see trolls here and I personally love a good troll, welcome!
Avatar 7:51am dfb:

yea --- i troll lots but never here -- it's my safe zone
  7:54am Courtney of Morris:

I like when a troll has a 'theme' and a matching name, random trolls are kind of pedestrian
A good troll takes it seriously
  7:55am Chris in warwick:

thanks for keeping my morning bright Jones really like the tracks on the dial today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56am Fuzzy:

@Courtney: the app remembers the last thing you listened to...to change programs just hit the musical note in the upper left corner and you'll be presented with the different available streams.
  7:56am cheri:

i would love to hear gaylord in the morning.
Avatar 7:58am dfb:

my theme is loneliness and the heartbreak of psoriasis, generally
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59am doctorjazz:

Morning All!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00am annie:

to be honest, now that we're all opening up: i prefer morning music radio to contain less chatter. it might be that my brain isn't quite ready for talking. and, yet, that's just me.
Avatar 8:00am NJ Prof:

I wish Jones was my mayor all the time, not just the morning.
Avatar 8:01am NJ Prof:

@annie I agree. I had to stop listening to regular radio a long time ago, and had to stop listening to NPR in the morning because of the talking aspect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01am annie:

music-wise, jonesy is my choice..
  8:02am Courtney of Morris:

@fuzzy thank you so much! @dfb that combo is a nice setting for trolling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02am annie:

yep, more and more, music has become my balm..
  8:03am Tommy Walker:

Dude, yer NEVER gonna get ratings playing all this obscure stuff! The Pretenders and The Who were great, and The Ramones are AWESOME, but Kid Rock? More like Kid Suck! And R. Kelly? Rick James? (Both either accused or convicted of violent or sexual crimes against girls or women, by the way.) What's next, Drake? Kanye Worst? Snoop Dogg? Know thy audience! I mean, I'm not trying to be stupid or insulting -- just trying to give a bit of constructive criticism. Give us some rockin' hits! Three good songs in two hours? Not good enough! You can do better -- I just know you can!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am dale:

love that liminanananananas - could have been dutronc or gainsbourg
  8:05am noel:

If we stop playing music based on the habits of the artists we'll have nothing to play. Most of them are not very nice people so let it be.
Avatar 8:08am NJ Prof:

@ Tommy. I imagine that in programming for three hours there are not going to be songs that everyone likes. Overall, I like the music especially the fact that I have never heard much of this before.
  8:09am noel:

Tommy he's playing to us all, not just you. Go around the dial and there's a wasteland.
  8:10am Courtney of Morris:

@ tommy I'm insulted you think we need the 'hits' here that's not why I listen to wfmu for the record Warwick has incredible music selection I'm kind of the Warwick troll come to think of it
  8:16am Ken:

Courtney and Fuzzy - the musical note that fuzzy mentions is in the older version of the iPhone app. On the new version the thing to do is navigate back to the full option of streams by clicking the word "Audio" in the upper right.
  8:19am Chris in warwick:

Jonesy could I request a tom waits song
  8:19am noel:

You attract more "Do Bees" with honey than vinegar. If Jonesey can pull from the Dover station or the "Metromedia" substitute then the listener base will sustain the station. We had religion in the morning for years and none of you complained then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am annie:

ahh, noel, that was just for city-dwellers, many of us isten online and the M-F shows were MY religion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am dale:

what about kava? paul harvey swore by it.
  8:22am noel:

and you were a Nachum listener?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am doctorjazz:

When has FMU ever programmed on the basis of "ratings"? Do they actually mean anything if you're not selling advertising? Of course, you need a listener base for listener supported radio, maybe just as much, but FMU, at least for me, has been discovering music I don't know as well as hearing stuff I like. But, usual disclaimer, YMMV.
  8:23am Courtney of Morris:

lol Noel you are so right!!
Avatar 8:24am NJ Prof:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am Fuzzy:

@Ken: my Android app version 3.0.2 shows the note in the left corner, and a floppy disc upper right for saving stuff. Is there a newer version somewhere?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am annie:

no noel, i listened to the online shows. the only parts of nachum i listened to were the very start and the very end
Avatar 8:27am pantz:

Dear Sir or Madam,
Good morning.
  8:28am noel:

How could anyone stomach NPR it's sucked since the early 90's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28am Fuzzy:

Got my app from the Google Play Store, where it hasn't been updated since April 30, 2014.
  8:29am noel:

There's a new Mayor in town and his name is Jonesey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29am doctorjazz:

I have the Android app, the upper right hand icon is just greyed out, doesn't seem to do anything. Selection is from the upper left, track info and the chat boards are on the bottom.
Avatar 8:29am NJ Prof:

@ noel hahaha I quickly realized that I couldn't listen to it every morning driving into Philadelphia. However, I stream WFMU and listen through bluetooth and all my commutes have been awesome.
  8:30am former nachum listener:

I listened to Nachum - over 30 years it grew on me. got so that only moda anni would get me out of bed in the am. not hearing trumpets and the closing ha tikva is taking some getting used to.
Avatar 8:31am NJ Prof:

@ noel other than the fact that I have to drive to Philly everyday...
Avatar 8:32am NJ Prof:

@ THE LIST. I will be driving across the USA this summer, and will be streaming WFMU the entire way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am -Ken:

Ah Fuzzy, no, we haven;t updated the Android app in a really long time. The Android app is a pain because there are so many different hardware platforms for it. We will update in in the next few months though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am tomasz.:

someone pointed out two artists that were accused of assault against women while also asking for more old rock artists. welp, about those guys...
  8:34am noel:

You know what they call radio without talk "a record player" so if you don't want to hear the human voice then put on a tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37am annie:

ok, noel... i'm not about to get up and switch the record over every 15-20 minutes, and it'd have to be a record full of random tunes... not gonna swing that. freedom of choice, and i choose less talk.. that's all..live radio is a special thing..
  8:37am Brendan:

Look out for the cheetah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am annie:

@noel, re NPR: even longer, even longer.
  8:40am noel:

He may play "Lion Eyes" next
8:40am I just made a pledge online, from Germany. did it:

Kb in munich bob kuban comesfrom st louis, me too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am Fuzzy:

Lion on the floor, lion on the floor -- I come undone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am Lizardner Dave:

Really enjoying the show Jonesy. Good luck!
  8:41am noel:

NPR was co-opted by the Reagan administration but became obvious in the 90's
  8:42am Scoop:

Not a strong enough e.d. drug yet invented can help after hearing your voice in my dark bedroom. Play longer songs please.
Avatar 8:43am NJ Prof:

@ THE CHAT ROOM. Do we know the how the regular WFMU morning host will be chosen eventually? Excuse me for my ignorance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43am Lizardner Dave:

Also the Morning Mayor nickname is cool for me on another level. Around 20 years ago a friend of mine had a bong that he named "The Mayor" after the mayor of Baltimore at the time, Kurt Schmoke. True story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45am annie:

even though NPR is way too addicted to gummint money the true test of their worthiness would be to totally cut them off and see how they stand on their own, like FMU.. totally listener supported ..they'll change their tune, definitely.
  8:45am Mikey_B:

Morning, Jonesy.
  8:45am noel:

I think Harry Harrison was out Morning Mayor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46am doctorjazz:

The Band, ahhhhh....
Avatar 8:46am Chris in Warwick:

if i'm out of milk is it okay to use my whiskey as a creamer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am Fuzzy:

You have to hold it in your lungs longer, George.
Avatar 8:47am NJ Prof:

@ Lizardner AHHHHHHH
  8:48am Jonesey:

Yes Harry Harrison was morning Mayor also Herb Oscar Anderson prior to his moving to a later shift. Harry Harrison will always be morning mayor to me. Unwrap each day like it was a precious gift.
  8:48am noel:

You ran out of Baileys?
  8:49am noel:

The "All Americans" vs "The Good Guys"
Avatar 8:52am James Douglas:

There's a new mayor in town! Thanks for the great 3 hours Glen. Looking forward to the rest of the week.
Avatar 8:53am NJ Prof:

@ annie. Agree with you about NPR. But what killed the local NPR station for me was the fact that they were blatantly advertising for predatory educational practices in institutions of higher education, and it makes it seem like they are educational messages. Not cool.
  8:54am noel:

great mix Jonesey see you tomorrow.
  8:54am Alice Formato:

I Agree James
Avatar 8:54am NJ Prof:

@ annie. But it speaks to the issue you were referring to. NPR has sponsors, and WFMU does not. WFMU has the freedom to do whatever it wants.
Avatar 8:55am NJ Prof:

Well, except curse and swear.
  8:55am Tommy Walker:

Good point, generally speaking, Noel, but methinks society has to draw the line somewhere, and violence, especially sexual, against children and women seems like a good place to start. Those two especially (Rick James, R. Kelly) should be shunned, ostracized -- I personally wouldn't want to put a penny in their pockets. Besides, I happen to think that they totally suck, but that's just my opinion and I know that not everyone agrees with it (nor should they).

NJ Prof, you also make some excellent points -- not every song can appeal to everyone, and I, too, enjoy discovering new music as well as old music I haven't heard before. But I think a programmer needs to find the right balance...

Tomasz: You're putting words in my mouth! I wasn't exactly asking for more old rock artists -- I'm sick to death of the classic rock station, which keeps playing the same few tired old songs over and over, decade after decade... I just think Jonesy and this station should try to be a bit more competitive -- I'd love to see Jonesy and WFMU beat the classic rock station in the ratings.
Avatar 8:58am βrian:

What are "ratings"?
  8:58am noel:

When Townsend Jagger and Co. are doing the nasty with whom ever I have to chill otherwise I'd have to toss out my life with the cd collection. I don't care what they've done I care about my brain
