Eyam pronounced 'I'm' is known as the plague village in Derbyshire. In 1665 a tailor in the village was sent some material from London it contained plague. @Brian: No I didn’t. A few years later—in 4th grade—I suddenly got tagged as a “troublesome” kid when a teacher asked me to run an errand to the teachers lounge and put her styrofoam cup back. I went in, had no idea how electric stoves work and just put the styrofoam cup on the electric stove. It caught on fire and I got blamed. Suddenly I became a “bad” student because I improperly placed a styrofoam cup on a stovetop. NYC Board of Education is garbage.

My parents were both teachers, and Would never stand for plagiarism of any sort. However, my brother is two years older than I am, and on more than one occasion, I resubmitted his assignments to a couple of the "flightier" teachers we both had. They never noticed.

I don't think that Burgesses' implication was that the teens thought it was hip to be tools of Soviet violence, rather that Russian (along with Cockney and Gipsy slang) was incorporated into their "Nadsat" dialect, because Russian had replaced French as the second language taught in the grade schools in England, an indication of a progressively Communism-friendly England.
But... in light of recent events, seeing as a sign of a direct, disrupting Russian influence is intriguing
