Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
June 4, 2017: A Sneak Peak at a Secret Mountaintop
Hello, Gaylord and listener friends. Welcome, ice cream season.
8:13pm
cheri:
greetings great Gaylord, also remember last week towards the end of your show you played tis tune "PSALM 92"? I really did love that tune, please tell more about it, Gaylord.
@tom from Glasgow: Gotta admit it makes for a more fun barbecue than "world, demon and tofu" (but then I suppose we vegetarians could have "world, demon and seitan")!
my wife is vegetarian and i try to be. sometimes we have some type of faux meatballs and the texture and flavor are spot on. i always wonder if they're serving us real meat as meatless because factory raised meat is probably cheaper than good vegetarian processed product.
story goes that Sonny Boy Williamson knocked the bottle from Robert Johnson's hand when it was handed him already opened in the bar and said never drink from a bottle he didn't see opened. that pissed Johnson off and he told Williamson to never do it again. he drank the next one and was dead within 2 days.
This week I had a customer tell me never leave your drink unattended which is always good advice but I never thought I'd have to worry about methadone poisoning!!!
And then some guy will claim to be you and be much more successful than you ever were. (Which higher/lower power did Aleck "Sonny Boy Williamson II" Miller make a deal with? Because that worked out pretty well for him.)
@glenn: It seemed one of those things SBW2 did to get a foot in the door, and then he was kinda stuck living the lie. And it would have bitten him in the bum if he wasn't so damn good.
Rhoden was in the Butts Band, whom I remember for some obscure reason: was Robby Krieger also in that band? I could google it, but that takes all the fun out of it.
Seems I have yet to fully grasp the concept of entering the chatroom, I missed all the live chatter, however, I have had a very productive evening after a heavy week! Thank you, Gaylord, and good night to you all.
